Sean Carroll is a theoretical physicist, specializing in quantum mechanics, gravitation, cosmology, statistical mechanics, and foundations of physics. Sean Carroll and John Michael Godier spoke about the many worlds theory. The multiverse theory was also explained and discussed. And how it all related to Sean Carroll’s new book ‘Something Deeply Hidden’.

If it's me, they have a similar mind to me. Maybe they recognized how wrong I am. If they don't have a similar mind or philosophy to me, they're not me. It doesn't matter if they share my rugged good looks. Thanks for ruining many-worlds interpretation for me, Descartes. Thus: Alternate JMG could be a mad scientist, but if alternate JMG isn't interested in science, is it truly JMG? It was disconcerting at first, but I have to admit my (psuedo?) consciousness wave-function is more similar to Lady Gorthemel the science squid than Curry Tangent the world-class ping-pong player.

Sean Carroll is my favorite physicist!!! How did it take me two days to see this video!? My metric for trusting physicist is by how often they say 'I don't know' and Sean does this more than most. Beyond that he doesn't get hung up on the great debate of whose interpretation of QM is most likely to bare fruit. Being a theoretician he can move head on with the most likely understanding, even though he's in the minority. I love this channel and all it's great conversations. Thank you for sharing!

By avoiding the Quantum Suicide issue, Sean is avoiding the big reveal! We're all playing it just by living our lives. As we get older, only versions that didn't die will still be around. When you're 300 years old, you'll pretty much know the truth of the multiverse just by reason that your life story is so weird by that point.

Excellent discussion! The questions were nicely fine tuned to elicite intense in-depth responses from the always thought provoking Professor S C. If I might add from the other world for which I reside, I've been fond of saying that light is matter in motion and gravity the magnetic moment of the latter. If correct, then, it follows that the other worlds should be expected to have variable force's or layers of light in order to support evolutionary copies of particle charge from very different gravitational fields. Nice production. Outstanding! The graphics gave feeling and meaning too the fluid nature of the universe. Can't wait for more.

Thanx for sharing this great new Episode of 'Event Horizon'. This time you managed to get Sean Carrol discussing one of the most intriguing aspect of Quantum physics. Love Your work mates :D Now I watched and read many stuff from Sean Carrol and each and every time, he boggles my mind. And every time when it comes to the Kopenhagen interpretation of QT my Guts tell me: "there's something wrong with it, better eat a pizza and drink a wine". And here are my 2 cents: the Kopenhagen interpretation of QT states, that each time an Experimentator makes an quantum experiment, of the sort of figuring out the quantum state of an quantum object, both possible results become in to being or to realization. In an Universe without Experimentators such 'splitting' won't happen. Leave alone this implications whether or not there are 10 or 10 trillions of Experimentators defines the number of different, parallel existing, worlds, right now (and we know, there is no such thing as 'right now'). But I do not have a 'Space' problem here because I think the Universe is veeeerrrrrrrrrrry Huge ;-) Multi dimensions and 'what have you' gives the space needed. But what about the energy and entropy of this experimental new created realms? How can entire universes be created instantaneous by making a Doubble-Slit experiment (or other well performed experiments in the last 20-30 Years). Not to mention that each one of this, is created infinite fast and it doubles Mass and Energy. And does this 'spooky' parallelision of the Universe not contradict to the fact of nonlinear fractal evolvement of spontaneous evolving particles and antiparticles (Hawking Radiation) since QM is not able yet to predict the interactions of three single particles. It would imply that each quantum object in the Universum nows each quantum sate of any other quantum object- "instantaneous". The simulation theory would not need such duplications if I understood correctly what I read so far. Feel free to correct me and help me to understand what's the point i am missing here. (and please excuse my humble English regarding this very complex issue)

I think the work around for imagining how the illusion of choice causes a new universe.. like me choosing to write the number... 19 instead of 2 caused a new universe to spawn.. I believe the solution is to assume that I was always going to write 19 instead of 2. The big bang, whatever it is or whatever caused it created a universe where I was always going to write those numbers. All the external stimuli and life experience was always going to influence me to write this this way on this video that Godier was always going to make and Carroll was always going to be a guest on. Everything that has ever happened or will ever happen is determined from the very beginning. This could possibly explain delayed choice quantum eraser as well. Instead of imagining the electrons or whatever going back in time and changing its past based on if we choose to look at or destroy the information that tells us what slit it went through... I think it instead can "see" the future. It is already determined which option we choose. This eliminates extra work for the electron and makes it more simple. What process or energy powers an electron going back in time? Its simpler the other way. And the only way we have different versions of ourselves where I write 18 instead of 3 is it's just another big bang in an infinite number of them. Its inevitable even if it takes a trillion trillion trillion years.

I wonder if the change brought about through observation has something to do with the fact that everything is radioactive, whether its a machine made by a person, or the person themselves? Do photons and other radioactive particles emanating from the machine / person interact with the particle being observed and thus change its behaviour? Is it possible to create a machine that's completely free of any radiation, including the form we take for granted, heat?

Given that mediators of forces are particle-like, you can actually compress those many universes. For example, whether one atom is off by a iota, is below the threshold affecting the moon's orbit and so forth. Effectively you get the independent domains (bounded domains) the microscopic the differences remain.

Here's what I don't understand about the double-slit experiment. Can't you figure out which slit the electron went through, based on its arrival time? Because the path lengths aren't the same, except right in the middle of the screen. If it was detected on the left side of the screen, then there was a shorter path length if it had traveled through the left slit, and a longer path length if it had traveled through the right slit, so you should be able to figure out which one it went through, based on the exact time it arrived, if it was propelled at a consistent velocity in the first place. And we're not talking about a tiny, tiny difference in distance that is drowned out by quantum uncertainty of its exact position and momentum, we're talking about a MACROSCOPIC difference in distance in the path length between the slit on the left and the right. So why would a "detector" on the slits to detect it there, make a difference, and destroy the interference pattern? The interference pattern should already NOT be there, just because it should be in principle possible to discern which slit the electron went through based on its arrival time.

i don't completely understand the inner discussions of quantum theory or string theory itself, but i have such a creative, open, and vast imagination. So i could kinda understand what yall were talking about. But i feel as we continue through time, even more complex theories will arise. Who knows maybe we can get solid proof one day that the multiverse theory can be properly proven. There is so much that we can't understand or fathom. But hey we are the groundbreaking generation that is starting a long - term trek of universal knowledge.

Where is all the matter coming from, does it instantly double when you make a choice between two roads? Or, does it split into halves that are half the size and mass it was before you made your choice?

Perhaps it can be understood in this language that the wavefunction is a perpetual expansion of potentiality. As time moves forward the wavefunction evolves ever greater complexity as it undergoes mutation which expresses all potential realizations of form. Just giving it a shot
