Looking at the carapace, both the female and the darker male appear to be the same species, Pamphobeteus machala, due to the mark that both present on their carapace... while the pinker one must be a different species, maybe Pamphobeteus sp. platyomma

I was thinking the same. The Pamphobeteus and Phormictopus genus realllly need to be sorted out. Maybe the two most underrated genus in the hobby, in growth rate, beauty (metallic colours for days), husbandry, size and fun feeding response. Also found that they have pretty good temperament. Pamphobeteus even gives you a reason to want a male. Love these guys.

@@davidknep Still would have been nice if the females colour pop like the males, as you could appreciate the more vibrant colour tone for longer with females having longer life spans. You could have a male for that you just get it for less time.

B. hamorii is often confused with B. smithi, whith hamorii tending to be more aggressive of the two. smithi also has more distinct leg banding.

I got into the hobby about 4 months and also have a B. Harmorii 😁 "She" is an unsexed sling *BUT* "She" is by far my favorite T (I have 3 tarantulas so far) TONS of personality!! I also have a T. Albopilsus (adult) and my first Tarantula is an Aphonopelma Bicoloratum (sling).. My Bicoloratum is a little devil tho!!

Petko If I wanted to get you a species you don't have how would I go about doing that? I've been watching your channel for years. You got me over my fear of Tarantulas and now I own a numerous amount of them. I checked out your webpage only to notice there was one species in particular that was missing from your collection. Right one appears more fuchsia with a matching carapace, while the left one looks more of a grape, with a mostly black carapace.

The first male looks like a Pamphobeteus Nigricolor I say that because of the definition between the marking on the carapace the bigger one is definitely a Pamphobeteus Platyomma! The female would be difficult to identify however I would be able to tell if you uploaded some pictures of her with her juvenile markings/color. I’ve owned a lot of different Pamphobeteus species and it is much easier to identify the species when they are juveniles or adult males most of the mature females are almost indistinguishable with the exception of the Ultramarinus.

Pamphobeteus is a cool genus but with how similar so many of them look it makes me wonder if many of these are different localities rather than species, I think genetic research would be so interesting for these guys. I mean out of all the different spider genera Pamphobeteus is the one that gives me the most headache because it feels like there are 10 giant spiders with purple males and dark brown/black females so I have no idea if I even wanna think about breeding these because I feel like I would end up with hybrids. In the end I find that tarantulas are a great example of how the whole classification of species is somewhat arbitrary since many species blend into each other, African cichlids are also a good example of this same thing.

Is that second ones common name called a Giant blue bloom? I bought a small sling from my exotic pet store but it had no species name on the tag unlike most of their slings. It has very long legs for his size kind of like that. Regardless that is a gorgeous tarantula. Massive leg span too.

I'll try to get an opinion from a breeder I've talked with a few times before - the guy is actually a taxonomist so he might provide some valuable information in regards to this issue. I'll forward the video to him. Update: The breeder responded stating that spiders from this species can look a lot different even among sack-mates.

Both males are beautiful species, however I think the smaller one with darker purple is better looking as amethyst and dark purple colors are my favorite. But those long legs on the bigger one are beautiful too. You're so enjoyable to watch. You bring a smile to my face even as I sit here with horrible chest pain and miserable from my heart failure. the second different looking one is sp. platyomma images.app.goo.gl/J9WJaKxUsFSkyjGp6 the other two sp. machala images.app.goo.gl/kwEju9n4Sucy2f7eA most prominent differences are the different scopulae = the color and shape of the longer feather-like hairs called setae, the palpi which can´t be stretched on a living specimen as well as the apophysis, obviosly the habitus and body lenght is slightly off, platyomma are more leggy than sturdy machala and the radiallines on the carapace are slightly different too.

dude that one is huge.. you might want to rehouse that one if isn't already no wonder he cranky. Such crowded for the poor thing. Beautiful tarantula though. I didn't watched to the end when I made the comment but yeah the spider was more docile when it was out of that small enclosure. At the end that spider was like I don't want to go back in there though.

Hello Marko. I am convinced they are both the same genus. I have kept tarantulas for over eight years now and I have seen this happened twice. I am positive they are both the same Pamphobeteus species. One of them just matured 1 molt earlier. In 2-3 weeks they will be the same color. I observed this happened in Chilobrachys sp. Kaeng Krachan and Poecilotheria sp. lowland.

I currently have a pink toe tarantula and as we all know... it's never easy to stop with one. *pauses and looks at 25 fish tanks* I've been working on a new terrarium for a new arboreal T. My current was a rescue from people that thought it would be cool to own T's but then were afraid to open her box to change her water or feed her. I watch Josh's frogs ...yes, for T's, but I was curious where you guys shop for yours. I'm in the US. I'm also finishing up a bearded dragon tank, all tanks are bioactive so I set them up and allow them to "stabilize" as if they were fish tanks. Lots of research later I'm ready to look for a bearded dragon as well. Thanks for any suggestions!

Hey Petko! After some research I'm almost certain that the smaller guy is either Pamphobeteus flammifera or Pamphobeteus mascara. They both have that really unique looking carapace, these two little Stripes that kind of make them look like they are wearing a bandit mask haha! The other one I'm not entirely sure.. I'm undecided between Pamphobeteus machala and Pamphobeteus platyomma. Greets from Germany and also: Love your videos, keep goin!

While other comments have covered the topic thoroughly before I got here, seeing how wild caught parents can sometimes be mis-identified, and slings looking very similar. If the slings came from two different species in the same genus there are possibilities of the slings sharing combined and therefore differing DNA to both of the parents species, or (and more likely) would choose characteristics from one of the parents. However if the species of parents are confirmed to be the same, and there were no sling escapees while trying to package/remove/care for the slings, mutations due to selective breeding/inbreeding are a small possibility.

Also a female platyomma would be a more brown color overall also bigger with nice pink eye markings. So the female and smaller darker guy are the same species for sure...the second dude is definitely a platyomma.

Speaking of pretty looking spiders I would love the day I see a Dark Den upload titled Peacock jumping spiders male and female so we can see the mating dance. It’s amazing. That and the full room tour I keep mentioning of course 😜🤣 Great video by the way 👍🙂 I love those colours. I remember as a kid thinking T was identified by it being orange and black and that is all. It’s great to see a thing so feared and that can gross (some) people out to look so beautiful and have such a mix of colours.

Im not a spider guy (not a spidercman either) but their may be an easier way to measure. You know the desk mats or pads you use on your desk for a writing surface? They're available in in 1/4" quadrant graph paper. So you just let them stand on it and take some stills. Each square is a quarter inch.
