Metal Gear Rising: Revegeance also shows this! Raiden says "my sword is a tool of justice" and that he fights to protect the weak, which isn't completely inaccurate I would say. A part of him does truly want to just protect the weak but that isn't the whole story. Later on you find out the complete motivations of Raiden and how he feels about killing these guards and cyborgs sent after him, to achieve his goal of saving those children

I don't necessarily agree with Superman being a completely unflawed character, mostly because, without his powers, he would be a regular human being and human beings are flawed. He does have less perceptible flaws than the characters you have mentioned throughout the video (which I think is a great!!), but being raised by a lovely old couple who instilled good values in him just makes him a good person. I guess one flaw is that he constantly feels the need to save people which is impossible and a ridiculous standard to live by.

I think another example would be Cole Macgrath, specifically from infamous 2. Its a superhero game where you choose to be either good or evil. The ending leads to a moral dilemma where evil can be seen as equally logical as the good choice.

I have another honorable mention for you! I think Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider Legend trilogy (Legend, Anniversary, Underworld) is an incredible character. Her writing is so damn interesting for these older titles. A lot of people only know Lara through her newer games and survivor Lara but I think they did something more interesting with her in that trilogy. So the idea is, Lara wants to uncover the secrets of what happened to her mother who mysteriously vanished when she was a child, after the two survived a plane crash in the Himalayas and seeked shelter in a nearby temple, then child Lara found and messed with a random time travelling device (unbeknownst to her), leading the mother to intervene and disappear. In the recent years, Lara gets a phone call from a friend who gives her a location tip of where the same device could be located in Bolivia. She finds the device but also gradually discovers that the place is flooded with private soldiers from a senator's son. Lara stumbles against him and the two discuss the device and he somberly mentions ''Amanda'' (one of her friends who presumably drowned in a horrible accident where all of Lara's archeologist friends died on an expedition due to a dark, mysterious entity who slaughtered everyone, and Lara was the sole survivor of the incident). Lara then fights off his soldiers as he escapes the scene and she's left to study the same exact device she found in the Himalayas. So, basically the game centers around Lara visiting some of her old friends and key locations to retrieve pieces of the device to try finding her mother once and for all. But the really interesting thing here is, Lara isn't necessarily a good person, at all. She's so blinded at the desire to find her mother, that she doesn't realize that she is hurting all of the people around her that she cares about. Her friend Anaya (who gave her the tip about the device in Bolivia) is greatly endangered through most of the second chapter, Lara's two assistants who guide her through the journeys get in danger about two times with really close calls. Eventually the villain of the game is revealed to be Amanda, Lara's friend who was presumed to drown. You figure out some breadcrumbs that she may be alive, and she did end up surviving after she picked up an artifact of dark energy just before the entity got to her, which meant she was able to control it and survive the flooded temple. In the game, Lara tries making up to her, but she is still bitter about the incident. At the end of the game, Lara returns to Bolivia where the stone is, and ruthlessly murders every single person in there. She murders the senator's son (who Amanda was dating at the time) and leaves Amanda as the sole survivor. The two fight, Amanda channeling the dark entity's power, and Lara knocks Amanda out. Lara turns on the device again and actually manages to speak to her mother, moments before she interacted with the device and disappeared. She tries telling her to not touch the sword, but then Amanda wakes up and tells "present Lara" to pull out the sword or else it will 'explode' (she was trying to get future Lara to teleport to the same place her mother was) and due to Amanda's words, Lara's mom hears that through the device and pulls out the sword anyway. It's a really interesting premise because the very first thing we see in the game comes back as the same premise in the finale, leading to the same situation being repeated. Lara absolutely snaps after realizing that it was all Amanda's fault that she vanished, and threatens Amanda (the best scene in the entire game lmfao), and knocks her out, telling her to be grateful that she didn't outright kill her. Lara then leaves, realizing that her father was right about everything, and decides to continue on her indirect cycle of violence. Anniversary is themed as a Tomb Raider 1 remake and it basically covers the theme of Lara dealing with murdering an innocent person for the first time and feeling doubtful about her actions. It's also a very cool premise that was handled in an interesting way. Underworld is a direct sequel to Legend and it continues Lara's story about her indirectly causing harm to the people she loves, even killing one of the characters that we knew for the entire game. The ending was very touching though, and Lara decides to stop looking for revenge. That was it lol, really huge text! But these games all have really interesting writing, and they don't really seem to have been analyzed so much. Survivor Lara has been getting way more attention, and while her writing in that series is entirely different, I still think what they did in this trilogy here was something really refreshing for a game series released around those years.

I'd argue that Sam is the only good person in until dawn. She's the only one that doesn't take part in the prank and tries to find Hannah upon learning about said prank to warn her. I'd also argue that Josh is not a villain, he's an antagonist. The difference is a villain is doing things to challenge or obstruct the protagonist with evil intent, while an antagonist may challenge and obstruct the protagonist for any multitude of reasons. Most of these stories have "canon endings" especially choice games. Most often it's the "best ending" of said games, meaning in canon, these characters are relatively good people. The player is choosing to be a villain, not the character. I don't believe stories are a "Hero vs Villain" unless they're literally following superhero type stories. Most are a protagonist vs antagonist, everyone has their reasons for doing things and aren't necessarily good people. The difference comes down to who you're playing as/rooting for and who you're playing against.

We al love Nathan Drake, but he's a mass killer through 4 entire games. How many people he killed with our help during the saga? He's nice, he's cute, he's a himbo, but hey, give him a gun and he'll shoot you and your friends in the face with no hesitation. Any game that puts a gun in our hands turns us instantly into the bad guy.

@@thehorrorarchivers7347 Of course, but for a person that has no homicide feelings on a daily basis he's very OK with killing 1000 enemies in each game and live with it with no trauma or something. This has a name, actually, and it's called "ludonarrative disonance", which means, when the gameplay and the story to on separate ways. Example: Nathan is a good guy, he's lived tons of adventures and couldn't break a dish in his life. Meanwhile, the gameplay be like: let's kill all these fu**ing bastards BAHAHAHAHAHA an army isn't enough against meeee!

ah yes i heard of that with examples like the enitre gta franchise or horizon zero dawn they kill large amounts of enemies or npcs that are not related to story but in the story point of view it is not canon but in gameplay they be like lets genocide and wipe out many in their path.
