No matter how many times i watch this movie, this scene is still as nerve wracking as it was the first time i watched it.

When mass murder is proceeded like an administrative task, by pleasant officials in a meticulous way. Disturbing.

The first time I watched this in the cinema, I thought that the farmer was going to kill Hans as he seems bigger and beefier and Hans was smaller. As the scene progressed, we see how Hans became so scary and powerful and how the farmer was eventually reduced to tears.... This scene would forever be one of the best I’ve watched.

And Hans left, thankful for the information the Frenchman gave him

1:56 - The way Hans is just so polite, and even nonchalant, how he diffuses the tension for the farmer, I think that's one of the more terrifying aspects of this.

The part where Landa says "can I have another glass of your delicious milk" is reminiscent of the scene in Pulp Fiction where Samuel L. Jackson asks Frank Whaley for some of his "delicious sprite" to "wash down this tasty burger". I love how Tarantino inserts these details

Imagine dominating the screen to the point where a man asks you for permission to smoke in his own house.

This is maybe the greatest scene of all Tarantino's movies. The acting and dialogue are beyond gorgeous.

Me as a foreigner living in Germany, I would say that this is a perfect example of the German bureaucracy, so orderly, well organized but sometimes ruthless.

The administrative approach to the horrors is even more terrifying. Dear lord this is exactly how it went down.

I don't know of any actor past or present who could so brilliantly go from speaking fluent English to French to German. Amazing acting and should of got the Oscar.

I think I just noticed something. Next to where he writes their ages appears to be the Nazi’s last known age for each person - printed. The age he gives for Shosanna is 2-3 years older than the printed age. Landa subtly banked on the farmer quoting their current age, or older, because he would be seeing them every day. In doing so he confirmed the suspicion that they are hiding the family on the farm. That was it.

Great great scene and the way in which it is written is unbelievable. When Landa reveals he knows the family are under the floorboards. Everything before it makes sense. No immediate search, asking the daugthers to leave and my favourite preemptively switching to English... It is spectacular that he claims to have exhausted his French, whilst still speaking French perfectly

In 2 films Waltz really showed his range. In this film he will give everyone a panic attack by speak softly while he gives a stare. He was so intimidating in this film you was always uncomfortable when he was on screen. Played the character so well. But then you see him in Django he steals our heart instantly. The Beethoven clip always sticks in my mind. As you can see a character compassion and pain for others. While in this he plays only for himself. The guy is just a speacial talent for selling 2 great characters that are complete opposite bravo mr Waltz 👏

Landa is a notorious Nazi in occupied France, and he's completely at ease with letting a Frenchman that he's just met go around behind him - when Denis gets his pipe. To me this suggests that he's super confident in his ability to assess characters and situations.

The character was so good that we forget for a good while that we are viewing a Nazi officer who actively hunts Jews. We are so used to dehumanizing Nazis that we can forget that they are human, until he asks if the man is hiding "enemies of the state" we may only see Landa as nothing more than a man who asks lots of questions until we remember,: "Oh right, Nazi."

To be honest Hans Landa is one of the most terrifying villains in cinema history even tho his ending is a bit Hilarious but the opening scene sets the tone in the cinema the whole crowd was quiet amazing job by Tarantino and Waltz

These kinds of scenes are so amazing and its the reason why i watch them over and over again. the dialogues are so pleasing to listen.

This scene is perfect. Landa builds up to the later moment when he will ask the hard questions by introducing himself and remembering LaPadite about his status among Jewish hunters and explaining why he is so good at it. By the time LaPadite responds that the refugees are under his floor, Landa had just broken all his hopes of succeeding in protecting them, even though he was apparently manipulating the situation at first. It's interesting to note that Landa acted just like a human lying detector... Had some bullshit questions about the refugees to get a pattern of behavior of when LaPadite is comfortable... LaPadite even lights his pipe as a way to reassure himself that he was in control (see that the camera pauses for a second at the action of lighting the pipe)

That little smirk Landa does at 0:44 as if he's enjoying that the farmer is joining in with these false courtesies

The acting from both of them is phenomenal

The fact that we all watched this, in silence, and believed it, proves that the people we watched, and the people who produced it, were absolute fucking legends.

0:45 Landa’s face is saying: "Kindness will not help you so keep your tricks"

A really small detail is that LaPadite says "Oui" and then he corrects himself and says "Yes". This shows that Landa's tactics were working and LaPadite was actually starting to calm down. Before this, you could see that he had a calm and cold exterior but inside he was sh¡tting bricks. When he asked Landa if he could smoke his pipe and he comforted him by saying "Please, this is your house, make yourself comfortable" he presented himself as a very decent and humanitarian guy that one would be comfortable hanging around with. And LaPadite bought into that, lowering his guard even more before Landa prepared his last strike. This calmness was enforced more when LaPadite lied about the Dreyfus' escaping to Spain and Landa made it look like he was actually convinced.

Denis Menochet and Christoph Waltz, the best.

This scene is enough itself to be the whole movie. I mean if Tarantino had just this scene , people would have gone to watch and come out satisfied

I'm so glad that nazi guy didnt find those people under the floor and they all lived happily ever after. Would have been totally crazy if he just told his men to come in and shoot the floorboards while maybe one of the children escaped and oh I duno somehow owned a movie theatre and plotted her revenge by trapping a bunch of officials in there and burning the cinema down, would have been a good movie I guess but I'm just glad they're all doing well.

In my opinion, the farmer tripped up when he confirmed there were 5 people in the dreyfus family, when a minute ago he said he had never met them.

He wasn't used to his full potential in the last Bond movie....he's got so much more..

If lapedite said the dreyfuses were enroute towards spain it would have been believable. When he said they had escaped to spain the lie became obvious. In that era no villager would get to know such sort of information. And Landa said rumors are revealing, and it revealed.

I listen to these dialogues right up to before the shooting to sleep. It's strangely relaxing.

The pen part and other chit-chat is a bit like how Jules and Vincent go into the apartment at the beginning of Pulp Fiction and talk about breakfast and hamburgers. It's all for building tension. Tarantino is masterful at writing it in because in both cases, the things they talk about appear to be natural and believable.

This movie grabbed me and hooked me in the minute it started.

There's not a thing about this scene that isn't utterly brilliant for some reason, that little bit of body language from Landa at 4:12 when trying to ascertain the the children's age's always stands out to me.

The scene later in the film when they refer to the glass of milk, its hilarious!

Seeing this for the first time was something that I’ll never forget…At first Landa is somewhat gentle and kind with the man, smiling and even smoking their pipes with each other…But that all changes when Landa notices the man producing sweat and becoming more unconfident with his answers…Landa switches up so fast it’s horrifying.
