You were wondering why Mike didn't just up and leave when he received his $5 million cut. He stayed back to help care for his granddaughter. Also, when Mike lost all his money (other than what was in his 'go bag'), his fate was sealed. There is no way Walt could even think about killing 'Mike's guys' while Mike is still alive. Strap in, you two! The season just gets crazier and crazier from here. Plenty more 'open mouth' moments ahead...

Oh, and as to the idea that Walt “kills everyone in the world”, Fellow AMC show The Walking Dead which believe it or not was at one time running concurrently with Breaking Bad (wow, who knew that show’s title would eventually become so meta-descriptive) included several little Easter egg shout-outs to Breaking Bad which suggested the two shows existed in a shared Universe, which naturally resulted in the fan theory that it was Hiesenburg’s wildly popular Blue Meth which was somehow the source of the infection that led to the Zombie Apocalypse.

I really appreciate you got the context with the whole "it's all your fault, we had Gus"-speech. A lot of people completely ignore that fact and just go along with Mike. But Walt was on Gus kill-list from the beginning of season 4. And he was on it because he saved Jesses live by killing Gus dealers. Walt had no chance to "just continue with the good thing they had". So unless we think it's OK that Gus dealers killed the little kid, and therefore Walt should have Jesse been killed, there was no chance to just keep the good thing going. Walt already hat Mikes gun to the head at the end of season 3. And Mike was involved in Gus plan to turn Jesse against Walt during season 4. So even for Mike it must been absolutely clear there was no "good thing" left for Walt. Mike isn't even that different from Walt. He became the muscle of a drug lord, he had no problem to kill Walt when ordered, he wanted to kill Lydia, he had no problem with that. And for what? To provide for his family, esp. for his granddaughter. And this is not at all an excuse for Walt. We should just remember, in that business, everyone has blood on their hands, and morals are more than questionable with all involved. If anyone, Jesse was the only one who at least really struggled with that.
@elbruces
@elbruces 12 күн бұрын
Mike's referring back to his speech in "Half Measures" which is just before Walt killed the dealers for Jesse. If he'd stayed out of it like Mike told him to, he would have still been in Gus' good graces.
@mrtveye6682
@mrtveye6682 12 күн бұрын
@@elbruces Well, letting those dealers get away with a little slap on the head after killing a little boy would be a "half measure" too. Besides, Mike really cared for Jesse - at least after he got used to him - so if Walt would have stayed out of it all, that would have meant Jesse would have been executed. I don't really think that that's something Mike had in mind when he talked about the good thing they had going. I think Mike was just triggered by Walt (and I completely get why) and just started a rant. Not the first time. But I'm sure if he would think calmly about it twice, he would admit his speech was not nearly a correct representation of what the situation really was.

34:35 Eric gets it instantly: what Mike says isn't exactly true. For a good period of time, Walter was living on borrowed time. It's easy for the guy who was planning to kill Walter in the lab to say it all ran like clockwork and he should have just known his place. A lot of people genuinely fall for Gus' character who seems to be so clean and kind, forgetting what a vengeance driven sociopath he is under the veneer of a polite businessman. So many people miss this order of events.

Actually when you think about it…if walt didn’t run over those 2 guys they would’ve been on good terms with gus…& the only reason walt had to save jessie in the first place is because walt told jessie to expand the territory which got combo killed which is the whole reason why jessie was trying to kill those guys in the first place…& the only reason why walt wanted to expand the territory is because he saw some guys buying equipment to cook & his pride couldn’t let him have competition in his area…so actually mike is right….it’s all because of walt’s pride….

@@giovannidejoie8618yes well actually Jesse mostly wanted to kill them to protect the kid and then really went after them because they killed the kid that's why Walt killed them to protect Jesse because he knew he could not win that stand off and even if he did he didn't want him to be a killer at that point and that messed everything up some people say that's Jesse's fault and be that as it may but the only reason that went down is because Walt told Saul and he told Mike so they had to tell Gus about Jesse's plan and because Walt wanted to expand the territory and Jesse warned him not to just like he told him not to work with Tuco that got Jesse beat up and almost them both killed. And Walt signing another contract with Gus and pulling Jesse back in to keep him from pressing charges on Hank the cause and effect of the choices made just plays out so well that it's hard to say everything is just one person's fault Yes mostly Walt's but along the way Jesse's screw ups had made Walt make decisions that ruined things too. Mike didn't say anything bad about Jesse now because he likes and respects him now but earlier he knew he was the problem because Walt kept him around and he was messing the plan up stealing from Gus and then trying to kill his guys Mike was ready to kill Jesse and Walt, but now he saves Jesse's life and is protective over him like a grandpa.

In cable, the first four seasons are produced mainly by the company that created the series, but in the fifth season this reverses so that the channel airing the show has to pony up the bulk of the production fees. This created a standoff with AMC and their previous series, Mad Men, in which that show went on hiatus for the better part of two yeas before contracts were renegotiated and the show returned in its fifth season. As a contingency, the fourth season finale was written to wrap up most of the lingering plot lines in the series in the event that AMC would not pick it up and Netflix, which at acquired streaming rights to the show, was interested in continuing the series on their end. Eventually, AMC agreed to produce 16 episodes for the final season, but then decided to get crafty and break each half up into their one mini-season of 8 episodes. That way they could continue to milk the series on the network with endless reruns and marathons for nearly a full year, while also weaving them around Mad Men and their next hit series, The Walking Dead, which is pretty much what happened. They knew that viewers would be willing to wait a long time, as Mad Men had demonstrated, and they knew they could be successful splitting the episodes in half and airing them in "seasonal" segments, which is what they did the previous year with The Walking Dead and continued to do until that series ended. They also did the same "wait until the next year" for the second half of the last seasons of Mad Men.

That's what's great about this show. It's FUN to watch someone build a drug empire vicariously. Vince is like a pro at telling the fun side, but then he tells the truth side like a pro too. Every decision you make in this life has a ripple effect on the people you love & care about. At this juncture, the Walt brilliant enough to routinely outsmart everyone around him stands in STARK contrast to the Walt seemingly "INCAPABLE" of figuring the calculus of how bad this trajectory is for his whole family. It’s only when Netflix acquired the first three seasons in the break before Season four that it gained a huge new rabid fan base that showed up for AMC’s premier of Season Four. Suddenly, AMC had a huge hit on their hands and would have been more than willing to greenlight another five seasons, but now Vince Gilligan was saying no, we can’t drag this out, the story is approaching a natural endgame, this next season has to be the last. …Although in truth, the two halves of “Season 5” ARE two separate somewhat shortened seasons, in that the show did not even begin work on writing the last eight eps. Until the first eight of had already aired. One reason for maintaining the fiction that this way ir saved them from one last big pay increase for the cast & crew, who tend to re-negotiate their contracts on a season-by-season basis. This way Bryan Cranston & company only had one “season” to re-negotiate with the leverage of being part of a massive hit show, so they kind of got screwed a little bit this way.

"He's the Devil!" not really. It's kind of missing the point of the show saying that. Look at what happened here. Walt didn't mean to kill Mike. It's a man that is still new at the World of crime. He barely know how to handle a gun. I think he acted on instinct in a clumsy manner probably trying to stop Mike and boom he ended up killing him.

I think this moment where he kills Mike, and the moment he watches Jane die are unavoidably coupled together. Because almost every other time Walt kills someone, there is a plan, a discussion, a weighing of the good and bad, and in general a logic behind the move. But with those deaths? None of that. He was just in the moment and totally slave to his emotions. There is no plan, there's no time to make one. What makes Walt scary is that he can make decisions like that instantly. Life and death, up to him and how he happens to be feeling in the moment. He's not in control of himself, he's often shocked by his own self after he did what he did in a fit of rage. A true monster. He'll kill anyone in his way and come up with an excuse for it afterwards. It's not that he did it, it's that he can tell himself he was right afterwards. He ALWAYS finds a way to tell himself he was right afterwards.

Yes that's the way I felt about it too that Mike should have had some kind of understanding as to why Walt had to kill Gus Gus did not stick to his agreement after he had to kill the two gang bangerz to save Jesse at the time though Mike didn't care about Jesse he actually wanted to get rid of him he was going to kill both of them on orders but Gus still was going to use Mike to go after Jesse and that's why both of their lives were in danger and they had to kill Gail to save their own lives and we don't know if Mike knows that Gus threatened to kill Walter's whole family the baby and everything because he was still in Mexico recuperating so he might not have even known about that because that part might help him understand a little bit more he thought he just killed Gus to be Top dog i guess but that was not the reason at the time

Usually I'd try and make a joke or raise a tidbit of info or my excitement you guys are at a certain point, but I just this the other day and you guys finally getting to the episode reminded me of it. Kind of like an alternate reality to the infamous scene kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mciahs13l66tkqc.html Still excited that you guys are almost through with the series but also really worried to say anything now fo fear of giving something away 😅 I will say this is what I meant by Walt being a spiteful wild card of a man a few episodes/comments back. It really does start to ramp up with this episode, especially with Mike. Nothing but wounded pride behind the wheel at that moment.
