From what I've seen, most other countries don't care about sports cards like North America. Just watch the UK card shows on KZfaq. They are no where near as big as the shows here in the states. Yes, they have a lot of soccer cards and stickers, but the scale of demand for soccer cards doesn't seem that big as compared to sports cards here in the states.

So I'm a few years into this and really just baseball at the moment, can't stop eating up these off-season deals right now.... with the expectation they'll for sure go up during spring training barring injuries etc. You briefed on it in the video, do you not feel confident established hyped players like Soto, Tatis, Acuna will get back to at least nearing that pricing from last opening day?

Hey Mike….and Mike. What I’ve learned from others is that baseball is far less reactive, perhaps from not having as much of that impulsive flipper demographic as basketball. My entire strategy has been buying very early in the off-season or after injuries and it hasn’t paid off recently since the hobby is way different now that back in February. We’ll see what happens next year though. I could use another crazy spike :)

Buyin sports card and into break is excactly gambling. I play poker alot and the same concepts in playing poker apply to buying sports cards you wait until the right spot or the right price and buy because your all in with top pair and a flush draw. Then you have to sell your card on ebay or somethin to recieve your payout. Atleast most time in sports cards you have somethin left with your buyin unlike losin with aces..Henry ruggs raiders came out this season and had a good start and look what happened with watson these are bad river cards lol

one more thing you mentioned that drives me nuts is the pop counts increasing. is there any way to check the data on this? like what the pop count was for a particular card at a particular time? like what was the pop count for jordans 86 fleer sticker psa 8 a year ago vs now? is there a way to actually check this?
@lukereneeseth2010

Yeah, most of us record our cards. ie. Buy date, price, where from, etc. Check the pop count write it down. Then you'll always know how much it goes up by or stays the same when ever checked
@TheComebackCardInvestor
@TheComebackCardInvestor 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah pop count growth has really hindered value growth…(though it’s necessary as it’s just revealing actual supply). Both Market Movers and Card Ladder track pop growth on the cards in their database and Gem Rate (check them on IG) is awesome for showing what cards are coming back from PSA and the astounding numbers at which they’re returning to us at

Personally, I think the biggest areas for growth are in 1970s sportscards. Their prices remain fairly low with regards to today’s overhyped players. Plus, the higher end pop reports aren’t so susceptible to a flood of newly graded pops

But your missing the point to why it is that way (and why it will stay that way). We live in a time of technology and lifestyle now where you feel impelled to have the next new thing, even if you dont need it. When you tie that in with the fact this "bull run" of new/re- entering card collectors and price run; 99% of people are only going to be interested in 1. Players they remember growing up. 2. Players they can watch and follow. The market will never be there for cards prior to the 80's. Its just not the same kind of hobby as say vintage cars, war mems, ancient art, historic olympic items, etc. There 'could' be for older, graded, legends. But your talking about a dozen people at best covering the 3 big sports. An their cards are already at the ceiling.
@davidschwahn6763
@davidschwahn6763 2 жыл бұрын
@@lukereneeseth2010 While I agree with you on your basic premise, you must remember what is new today is old tomorrow. That being said, all these gentlemen flipping cards are playing hot potato with no one wanting to hold the card at the end. In fact, I was watching a KZfaq video where the flipper mentioned the exact serial numbered card has seen its third new owner in two weeks. Common sense should tell you each owner wants to make a profit on the card. Thus, the card is being artificially inflated in the short term.

I think your entire argument is based on the false presumption that gambling is a negative. I'm with you that investing should be the goal, but lots of people are in this hobby because they're addicted to the gamble. I've learned that they'll never change their approach, so it's best to just take advantage of them and move on.
@carlos4087

If that's what you have to tell yourself to feel better. You say "the false impression that gambling is a negative". That's not a false impression, IT IS A NEGATIVE. What you're basically saying (from a cynical perspective) is "let these addicts be addicts (don't try to educate them, they like being addicted and misinformed) so I can take their money" It never crossed your mind that even these addicts could use a wake up call. Either that, or you're just heartless...or I guess your name says it all now that I think of it.

Hey guys. I’m all for gambling if done responsible…just like drinking alcohol or eating dessert or anything else. However, the way I’m wired…and the way I want to be wired is to try my best to learn and grow and pass that on to others. I don’t want to make a fortune selling lottery tickets to people that are addicted to gambling. I’d rather make less trying to help people that are open to other perspectives. That’s just me though. :)

That's not his real rookie. Grand Slam ventures made a Masters set in 1997 and he has a card in that set. It's much rarer and I believe this will eventually be the key rookie card. It's black bordered so it also has condition sensitivity.

Well truth be told investing is gambling no way around it whether or not it's a big gamble on prospects or fractionally on a vet or HOFer. Same as betting on a trifecta box ( 1franco, 2volpe, 3blaze) when u buy all 3. Same when u buy a 10y vet may break a leg then retires ( luck ) you're not going to get your $ back out of it.

Aren't you supposed to make it sound fancy by saying "speculating" instead of "gambling" LOL. I can get behind your criteria for investing though, you at the very least have some set rules in what you do, rather just going by "gut" feel or just blind hope. I think one of the biggest mistakes I made starting out was by having more of a shotgun approach with the idea of the more players I put my money on, the bigger my chances were of finding a winner. I'm telling myself I'm just investing in a lot of players, but anyone can win at the track if they bet on every horse LOL! It was just pure gambling. So now I try and use criteria similar to what you have, try and go more targeted and slow down. Just because I may have money doesn't mean I need to spend it. Before I'd go "I have X amount of $, I NEED TO BUY SOMETHING!", where now I'll be more willing to hold and continue to build my money if nothing that ticks off my criteria is around. Great video overall, mate!
