The video shows them using SeaRAM to defend the ship. SeaRAM contains 11 missiles, so they should have 9 left for the second attack.

This was a really good show, I don't know why they cancelled it so soon, the story telling, the music, the acting, even the VFX was excellent, especially season 3, season 3 was a masterpiece.

Seems kind of dramatic to program your counter missile system to loop them around until the intercept is right off the bow. Also pretty sure the ship would've be peppered by high velocity shrapnel

Season 3, when that Russian guy commanded The Fearless go out and attack the American ship and proceeded to fire the first missile, I was like "F * DUDE!, DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'VE JUST STARTED!?!?!"

They were launched to starboard, curved behind the ship to portside, flew for seven seconds only to then return from the DDG's port quater to intercept the AShM coming in from starboard. Yeah, absolutly not.

only countermissles? I wouldve thought the entire ship could hide inside a massive chaf-smoke while fireing gatling guns at the incoming missle as extra insurance but idk

The CIWS cannon is meant to be a last line of defense; most American warship's primary defenses are electronic countermeasures or NATO Sea Sparrow missiles like the ones you see here. This is actually a fairly realistic depiction of what a modern naval battle would look like.

@@ManiaMac1613 Pretty sure the intercept in this video is well within the last line of defense. They were bracing for impact. CWIS would've also engaged way before this. It's not like they would rather risk the impact then waste the CWIS just because they launched a missile.

@@Klemheist hahaha right? There is so much wrong with this scene. Russia needing 2 keys to launch anti ship missiles like they are launching nukes, and launching from what looks like the bridge of the ship that does not have weapon stations. And then the US ship launching 2 missiles from the wrong launched since the arley burke should launch from VLS cells and how those missiles intercept 50 meters in front of the ship :))). The CIWS would have obliterated that missile by then :)) And so much more, this scene is just for dramatic effect but those that know better cringe so hard :))

Why would countermeasure missiles go in the opposite direction then return to take out the target mere seconds before impact? Who is this scene made for? People who liked The Last Ship?

There is a bit false weaponry showed in this video: Standard Missile is an anti air weapon not an ASW. SeaRAM isnt used by an arleigh burke, it is the RIM-116 RAM. The rocket flight path is not right and Arleigh Burke destroyer doesn't only have two anti air missiles, so the russians captain sentence doesn't make much sense. Neverthereless I enjoyed this series 😄.

SM-6 has a secondary role as an AShM in lieu of the introduction of VLS launched AShM Tomahawk and LRASM, so it would be the go-to anti-ship option

There were so many unrealistic things. First off, no ship with VLS can run out of "active ammo" and have to reload, the point of VLS is to be able to fire all at a time, neither would the russians fire only one missile, even if the logic was correct, it wouldnt give any advantage to wait before firing the rest. Secondly, the russian missile is a Zircon hypersonic AShM, which at the mid-terminal flight phase is extremely difficult to take out with CIWS and RAM due to its speed and ability to maneuver. Thus the Roosvelt should have engaged it with its VLS SM-2s which would saturate it with numbers in the mid range, while it is still accelerating. Waiting for a missile that is at its strongest up close to get close to you is just stupid

yeah this was done by somebody who's only knowledge was reading the weapon systems names on Wikipedia. the only possible thing i can think of for justifying a "reload" for a active VLS system is maybe someone misunderstanding how stacked VLS cells work, but either way the writers did a horrible job with these scene which is a real shame, wish someone did their job for a second and opened a book or did a few hours worth of reading online.

Hypersonic cruise missiles ability to maneuver at high speeds is greatly exaggerated and wouldn’t stop accurate counter fire from a destroyer. Not to mention the AEGIS system can engage targets moving at more than twice the speed allegedly achieved by the zircon.

@@alexalbrecht5768 You mean ABMD - AEGIS Ballistic Missile Defense. BMD capability is only available for a minority of AEGIS-equiped ships. The SM-3 is designed to intercept ballistic missiles on an atmospheric trajectory midcourse and the SM-6 is supposed to intercept ballistic missiles in their terminal phase. However, sometimes standard missiles fail to intercept targets in their relatively limited number of live-fire tests and intercepting hypersonic missiles is more complex than intercepting ballistic missiles.

@@czechchineseamerican a majority of aegis vessels are equipped with AEGIS BMD and more are gaining that capability every year. The SM-3 and SM-6 have a very successful test record against a diverse array of targets.

My only beef with this show is they expect the audience to believe that the American ship can only defend against one missile and would be helpless to defened against a second. I get why they did it, a 40 missile barrage would take some time and would be far harder to believe it was the act of a rogue captain and not a true act of war.

what nonsense... the idea and the script and the filming are ridiculous... trying to destroy an enemy ship, it is necessary to fire at least two anti-ship missiles... since the estimated target defeat for the anti-ship missiles is 0.8-0.9. And then a crazy captain wants to start a war (!) and fires 1 missile - this can be passed off as an UNNORMAL triggering of the “friend or foe” auto-response if the diplomats want... The presence of strangers on the bridge and the chatter between the lieutenant and the colonel are simply unrealistic... Disgusting, unrealistic movie... какая ерунда... и идея и сценарий и сьемки... пытаясь уничтожить судно противника - необходимо выпускать не менее двух противокорабельных ракет... поскольку расчетное поражение цели у ПКР 0.8-0.9 а тут сумасшедший капитан хочет начать войну (!) и выпускает 1 ракету - да это можно выдать за НЕШТАТНОЕ срабатывание автоответа "свой-чужой", если дипломаты постараются опять же присутствие на мостике посторонних и болтовня лейтенанта с полковником - просто нереальны
