SPOILER WARNING: From one of the final scenes of the series. not the final one but reveals part of the final plot. See by your risk.
-Shin is trying to getaway from A88, and Kitori scrambles to intercept him, sinze Kitori allways was eager to get a mock dogfight against Shin , he teaches her once for all who is the best pilot.
Also is a hell good dogfight between a F-5E Tiger 2 and a Mirage F-1

The Mirage F1 has no chance against the F-5 in open Air to Air combat. The F-5 is widely considered the best airframe ever produced for a fighter even though its alomst 50 years old.

F-20 wiki: "The main change was the replacement of the F-5's two General Electric J85 engines with a single General Electric F404 turbofan" Oups, yes, you are right..i was mistaken. Its funny how a F-20 with a single hornet engine is faster (M 2.1) than the Hornet with 2 (M 1.8)

Fun Fact: Vietnam is looking to restore their captured F-5s back to operational service. With US Restrictions lifted, it is possible the Vietnamese will restore their F-5s back to operational status and to fulfill Recon and Ground Attack Missions. They would likely be replacing the aging Su-22s in service with the Vietnamese Air Force. Though as a Fighter, they still have value and could be Point Defense Interceptors.

It would be. Though after I posted that, I found an article that indicates that the Vietnamese might not get them upgraded. It is all speculation now. But if they wanted too, they likely could, given the usefulness of the F-5 when stood against the Soviet/Russian planes. They were apparently easier to handle, more roomy, and enjoyed better characteristics than what the Soviets had put into them planes and likely continues on to what Russia makes.

The only real issue I'd see with Vietnam resurrecting some F-5Es would be refurbishing the airframes and engines back to 0 hours of flight time, as that'd likely be the most expensive/time consuming part. Then, there's the possibility of actually upgrading them: The F-5E is fantastic as a lead-in trainer, adversary aircraft, and for small countries who don't have a large military presence, and likely wouldn't be attacked by anyone, but it is still heavily outdated for the modern day. Vietnam would likely need to follow the example of Thailand, Brazil, and Chile, by upgrading their Tiger IIs with a more sophisticated radar/avionics set, glass cockpit, HOTAS controls, and advanced missile capability. The two companies that could very easily do this are Embraer (Brazil) and Elbit Systems (Israel), as both have done similar upgrades.

The Avions Marcel Dassault Breguet Mirage F.1E turned out to be an "F-8 light," as its manoeuvering was quite similar to that of the Chance Vought F8U-2 already in Aeronavale service during the F.1's development for the Armee de l'Air.

Except that the F-5 line is the immediate predecessor to the F/A-18 Hornet, which was developed from the YF-17 Cobra which was a development of the F-5 line.

No, i didnt add anuthig.. i simply extracted the video from the version o own (the japanese version) and uploaded it here. And yeap.. i have the track that plays during the Mig-23 combat: Its called "We Know What You Did" and i found it on the Area88 Cyber Trance. The MP3 is on emule

yes. it can be regarded as phenomenal & legendary fighter remembering the age is roughly 50+ years old. Indonesia, my country, which has been operating F-5E since 1980, instead of retiring them, they're going to upgrade them. I also noticed on the internet about civilian version of F-5. well, F-5 is my one of my favorite fighters. the other are F-14 Tomcat and Eurofighter Typhoon.

the F5 is teh ancestor of the F-20 tigershark. The F/A 18 hornet is the production model of the YF-21 which was never produced, but became the F-18 and variants after that.

Most of those planes can carry the same type of ordinance, so it's not as bad on the logistics as you think.

The F/A-18 is the development of the YF-17 (there was no YF-21, the F-21 was the us designation of some IAI Kfirs lended to the navy) and the YF-17 was based on the F-5E but bigger and with new technology and wings.. sure, its complety new but the design parted from the F-5E, take a F-5, put it 2 rudders, the wing "higher", add it LES over the intakes and increase the nose volume (and ockpit higher), voila, you got a YF-17

A lot of it boils down to the operator. Technological advantages are useful, and can be decisive; but a top-notch pilot can make up for his aircraft's shortcomings, and a slouch can give up every advantage he's got. You've got to make the other pilot fight on your terms.

I'd say that's more the case when you have aircraft that tend to be closer in capability. But it also depends on weapons and radar as well. An F-5E may absolutely be able to deal with a Mirage F1 in close quarters combat, but it becomes entirely different when things go over-the-horizon ( Super 530Fs for the stock Mirage F1s, AIM-7E-2 and AIM-7F Sparrows for the modified Mirage F1s in Area 88). The F-5E did have a radar warning system, and I don't doubt that a good F-5E pilot could notch the Mirage F1's radar, but it'd likely be out of energy from maneuvering. This would then make it an easy kill from an AIM-9L or Magic II fired from the Mirage.

FSE is a light and agile fighter good for close range dog fight but compared to the F-16, theres a payload restriction and its best suited for air-to-air combat. It looks like a Freedom Fighter though (CF-5)

Nope, it's a Tiger II. The Freedom Fighter is smaller, has weaker engines, and different LEXs

To be honest. When I watched this scene. I was expecting that it would be Mickey Simon in his F-14 tomcat that would try to engage Shin in his F-5 Tiger.

Errr no.. The Freedom Fighter is the F-5A->D versions, the F-5E was called Tiger II , and the F-20 was called TigerShark. the F-20 is interesting, is a F-5 with a F-16 engine, advanced avionics, and better visibility.. but it lacked "grow up" capability and the F-16 took the price in being exported to ally countries

Kinda interesting how Shin can pull all those tight maneuvers in a Tiger II, presumably while on full internal fuel and with full drop tanks as well. Poor thing would've practically fallen apart if he tried that irl... Still, it's a damn good scene. Would've been kinda interesting if it ended with Shin getting shot down, and I feel like it would've better fit the tone of this adaptation.

cause he wanted to run away and needed the fuel spoiler: . . . he later changes his mind and decides to stay and fight an enemy formation thats coming at them and he does jettison the tanks before engaging

Both in series reference and the engines tell it is a F-5E Tiger II. The F-20A Tigershark had only a single engine, unlike the F-5A/B/E/F and all other variants.
