Many of you know that Aretha Franklin is one of my all-time favorite vocalists.
And aside from the recent movie that just came out biographing her life, unfortunately, Aretha is one of those artists that has slipped through the cracks of maintaining high visibility in her legendary status in recent times.
And for that reason, I continue to try to do my part to expose and showcase these incredible talents like Aretha that have become somewhat overlooked.
Or maybe better stated, it's time to give her a little more Respect!

You should check out Aretha’s first recording as a 13 year old girl. It was a gospel album of her singing and playing piano at church. Phenomenal!

She had a lot of smoking damage and obviously the mounting health problems added to that. However, she figured out a lighter way if singing which helped her navigate all of that and still gave wonderful performances. So musical

Thanks for this video! It’s really hard for me to watch Aretha’s Kennedy center performance without getting teary eyed. It was publicly known that she was battling health issues during that time, and as a viewer, i felt honored just to see her perform on TV. It was a moment of resilience, and I remember being surprised of how good sounded despite health struggles and years of smoking etc. That performance for so many reasons solidified why she is and will forever be the “Queen of Soul”!❤️

I have watched Aretha Franklin live at Kennedy center honors quite few times and fully agree, her voice had a warmer sound but still retaining her upper registers. That particular performance was amazing, there's the proof look after your voice, health and you can sing well into your later years!!

She was an absolute powerhouse..... I really love some of the material that came out of the period when she was with Arista too. The song "Willing to forgive" from the 90's is an under played gem. Never gonna be another Ree

I am not really a big soul fan but I have always liked Aretha... I became exposed to her existence entirely from seeing Blues Brothers as a kid and was amazed by her voice

Aretha actually did in fact get her just do and acclaim and rightfully so. She was the best selling female artist up until the like the mid 90s and the most charted songs by a female of the rock era (1955-2012). Many account her as the greatest singer of all time (I do as well). She set the standard for which all vocalists are measured.

J M, You mean Aretha was actually charting songs in 1955 when she was just a little girl ? Must have been on the gospel charts since that`s what she sang first . Her voice was definitely a gift from God.

Through her writing and piano she was able to bring out passion. But trust and believe she has gotten the accolades she deserves, nothing was robbed.

Ken had to remove most of this video in the center due to a copyright issue which was the Obama performance at the Kennedy Center in Honolulu and the bulk of the video which really she'll keep her more recent performances unfortunately.

Nice video though I disagree with the `acclaim` part... Aretha received great acclaim throughout her entire career . Etta James was good but she was never on the same level vocally as Aretha and never received the kind of acclaim Aretha did and does.
