We join our chartered train for a ride over the Šargan Eight Railway (Serbia) with a class 83 steam locomotive No.83-052. The former East Bosnian railway with a gauge of 760 mm (2 ft 5 15⁄16 in) was an important part of the narrow-gauge main line from Sarajevo to Belgrade closed in 1974. The section over the Šargan pass was rebuilt between 1999 and 2003 by the Serbian Ministry of Tourism and the Yugoslav state railway JŽ, now the Serbian railways (Železnice Srbije) with help from a famous Bosnian film director Emir Kusturica who had the town of Drvengrad (near the Šargan Eight station on Mokra Gora) built for one of his movies. Witaj, Tim!

Tim. Hello, the old engine is a bit like an ageing movie star reliving past glory. The railway has been restored into Bosnia and Herzegovina as far as Višegrad, but for now trains are restricted to Serbia. The once extensive narrow gauge lines of the former Yugoslavia are just a memory now except for this museum line. I hope agreement can be reached allowing the train to run as far Višegrad again giving a route of 30 to 40 kilometers. Tim.

Hi, I'm pleased you enjoyed the video. This railway is a wonderful reminder of the once extensive Yugoslavian narrow gauge network of railways. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit. I'm looking forward to visiting again when Covid restrictions are lifted.

Serene and peaceful mostly. Beautiful scenery. Clean right of ways. As usual the Tim Touch was perfect. OK..even the kitties were charming. As I watch it one of my big Tom cats is sitting on my lap, unbothered by the chugging of the train as it labors over the mountains. Thanks Tim....

Hi, the tourist potential for this part of the world is massive, its a beautiful place, especially for those who enjoy walking, nice food and a good pint. This railway deserves to be in the premiere league and I would be the first to return if they start running over the full length of the restored line again. Peter (Popeye) is a good friend who I will be travelling with again this year, he drives steam trains in his homeland and the crews on the railways we visit are often happy to let him take the controls. The service train running on the day had a good compliment of passengers and really I hope this railway reaches its true potential.

Hello Tim! What a beautiful railway line. A pleasure to watch your videos. I have to use Google Translate more often to describe it. I hope that translates correctly. I can not speak English that well. But you already know that. To put such a beautiful route with 49 tunnels in the landscape. Real class performance. Hard to believe that 20 years ago there was still war in this country. As always greetings from Hans from the Mühlviertel.🚂

Hello Johann, this is a wonderful railway, it must have been amazing to ride back in the early 70's when it was still possible to travel by narrow gauge train all the way from Sarajevo to Belgrade. Google translate is a useful tool, I use it a lot. It's hard to believe that people living in such a beautiful place were fighting each other, hopefully that is all in the past now, allowing them to once again enjoy the wonderful scenery and share it with wealth creating tourists. Best wishes from Tim in West Sussex.

I smiled when I read your comment "Honestly importing Chinese Girls into England for something Steamy!!!" Best wishes to you and Lily. Tim.

Thank you, I am pleased you enjoyed this wonderful train ride. Some of the passenger carriages are very old, the strange shaped roof was sometimes to accommodate gas lighting, other time to provide good ventilation.

Wow awesome video again. The views outstanding. Would love to have a picnic at that table at 3:48. Also love the kittens you got some great shots there. Especially like the part with the train and cat together. Your really are a excellent photographer. What was whatever that was hanging off the train bridge at32:49? You got some awesome views of the countryside too. A all round great video and now one of my favorites of all yours. Got to ask are you in any of your videos? Just asking :) Safe travels ahead. Looking forward to your next journey. God bless.

Cheers, I appreciate your comment. The picnic table is in an ideal location. I am a soft touch when it comes to cats and kittens, I've always had one or two around the house as far back as I can remember, the kitten and train in the same shot was a piece of good fortune, two of my favourite things in one shot. The piece of metal hanging off the bridge at 32:49 baffled me, I have no idea why it was there. All the countries of the former Yugoslavia are highly scenic, I would loved to have travelled over the original route between Sarajevo to Belgrade, sadly closed in 1974. I do appear in some of my videos, a camera mounted on the front of the train often catches me. My next video will probably be a high-speed driver's eye view over this line. I would like to post it at regular speed but unfortunately the film suffered as a result of vibration and speeding it up helps to reduce the problem, I noticed that I appear several times in it. If all goes well, I will post it this weekend. Take care. Tim.

I know the video screen can be deceptive, but the gauge on those tracks looks to be the same as those of the Ravenglass-to-Eskdale Light Railway. And those cute little kitties got into the act as well! Nice one, Tim!

No pilot wheels on that 0-8-2. A bit odd. They are really liberal with their run-bys. Are there really 47 tunnels on this line?
@Timsvideochannel1
@Timsvideochannel1 6 жыл бұрын
Hi, the loco does look a little different without a leading pony truck or buffer beam, but if was fairly common even in the UK for heavy freight locomotives to have no pilot wheels, especially on the old North Eastern lines. The tunnel numbers relate to the original line between Sarajevo to Belgrade, not just the restored section featured in this video. Once the service train had cleared the line the loco crew were able to preform as many run-bys as our tour group wanted.
