I have a higher pitch tone when I speak to strangers/elderly/kids. I'm not sure why that is. When I'm comfortable with friends and family, it's deeper/lower tone.

not to weird flex, but I can give you a legit psychological answer. if you're female, you would likely be using a chirpier voice to subtly and subconsciously influence strangers (mainly males bc evolutionarily speaking females are "lesser" and therefore easily physically harmed) into thinking you're harmless and unthreatening to avoid being harmed in some way; if you're using a deeper voice, you're doing the opposite and making yourself seem more aggressive or dominant so people will think twice before they threaten you. with family it's the same thing, just the dynamics between your fav parent/sibling/whatever are what influence your desire for dominance and why you use the pitch of voice you do when you're around them. evolutionary traits are wild.

Sad Space Loser you do understand that she’s just been getting darker and darker over the years though right? It’s almost that people these days who don’t know her well, literally think she’s black. She’s darker than a lot of black celebrities too. That’s not normal, had she always transitioned even in the past it would be normal. But no it’s just a fuck lot of tanning, and I think it works for her cause she looks better or something

Any of you that think Ariana's voice sounds different than it did 8 years ago clearly weren't fans of hers back then. When she did interviews back then, she made her voice higher and more bubbly to fit in with her Nickelodeon character, but in her personal videos that she had on KZfaq at the time, her voice sounded just as deep and laid back as it does now.

That's just how female voices mature sometimes. Most women's voices get at least slightly lower after childhood, which is why you don't have very many ladies talking like squeaky toddlers. But singers can often expand their range over time with consistent practice, which can mean improving your ability to sing higher.

Not a single one of those clips sound like her authentic voice. She always appears to be putting something on when she talks, whether it's the super bubbly Nickelodeon clips or the weird quasi-hip hop twang she's been trying to add to her cadence. I think she's spent so long trying to play a role in one way or another, that she probably doesn't know how to speak in her natural voice anymore.

Yeah, I'd kind of been thinking that, though also the people around you strongly influence the way you speak, and it would make sense for her to have been around people who sound bubbly and blonde in those first years and people who sound more hip hop as she started touring/working with other performers. Just a thought.

The reason her voice was so high pitched was because she was trying to fit into the bubble gum pop persona. If you notice, the outfits, music, and voice all kind of went together. As her music changed into something that actually reflected her, she began to talk “normally” and more comfortably and she wasn’t forcing it as much

I don't know about you, but when I'm meeting someone new, on the phone, in a "professional" setting, my voice tends to be a little bit higher. The more comfortable I get in the situation, the deeper my voice is because my natural voice sits lower. Maybe she's just more comfortable now and doesn't do that thing that a lot of us do when speaking in a new setting.

Gin Andromeda If you’re naturally tan there’s nothing wrong with that, I get paler in the winter but I also tan easily in the summer due to my ethnicity But I’ll reiterate what I’ve heard a LOT in class and the “compliments” I’ve been given by other white 20 somethings my age: “I love your tan it looks so healthy” “I love your exotic look” “I wish I was healthy and tan like you” “where did you get your tan done or is it natural because it looks so natural” “I would kill for a tan like yours” People fetishize tanning and the exotic look and try their best to look anything but their original white selves this is where the black phishing and wannabe black/brown girl look comes in. This is where we see the influence of the Kardashians and Jenners in our culture and how a woman should look, looks that were once made fun of and thought of as distasteful in caricatures and depictions of black/brown women are now sexualized and now considered the modern urban street look every woman should go for because her own skin isn’t enough and why not rip off of the looks of other cultures that were once considered ugly and have white/pale skinned women promote it to make the look be in vogue? But of course this trend has been a thing since the roaring 20s.

what’s with that southern belle accent in 2014 edit: i cant respond to every individual comment but here’s some thoughts. i know ariana is from the south (florida) but she always speaks with like an LA/valley girl accent. i know she’s always been middle class but i don’t know if class and accents are strongly linked in the US (i’m from the UK) and i guess you could say she puts the LA accent on but if she does that’s pretty disingenuous, plus most people prefer it when singers have strong accents (you never really see “posh” people in the industry do you?) secondly for people saying it isn’t “southern” i am from the UK so i’ve only been exposed to “southern accents” in the media. it sounded southern to me particularly on the I’s and “while”, the I sound is glottal, placed in the back of her throat, and it has that long stereotypical southern drawl you normally hear. that’s why i said “southern belle” because she kinda sounds like a stereotypical southern belle archetype. think blanche dubois from a streetcar named desire as a media example.

probably taught by a vocal coach to place her voice in another part of her throat due to the amount that she sings so she doesn't strain too much. She has an incredible range so especially with constant belting/whistle tones/high notes she's singing she needs to be careful. Her "softer" voice as she gets older sounds a LOT like the way you talk when you're trying to place your voice in a place where it doesnt strain and its not painful, but comfortable. Lets not forget her voice is her CAREER and she needs to protect it, so she needs to talk however she needs to talk to make sure she is able to perform.

As someone who has studied voice and vocal training. I am around Ariannas age and my speaking voice has changed SO MUCH since I started properly focusing on my voice. She’s a trained singer and I feel like the reason she talks so lightly and high pitched is because she knows it’s better for your voice. Talking in a lower pitch/on the fry puts a lot of strain on your vocal chords and it’s very possible she’s just trying to avoid that

You can tell when she finally got out of the Cat character. She talks about it in 2015. The more she got her own character and was able to be her own person and make her own content, the more she was able to find her actual voice(literally). She didn’t develop a “blaccent” like some posts on Instagram claim, she was just finally able to break out of Cat. When you have to change your voice for the character, it becomes second nature to just keep that voice, and as she said it can strain your vocal chords and cause damage. I’m glad she got her own voice.

Two things. 1). Women and girls can feel pressure to act bubbly and happy all the time (thus a high voice and aloof persona) I’m sure that those first few clips (and her voice in the clips) are her trying to fill a role. Her 2013 - current I believe is her natural voice. #socializedtoactacertainway 2). My friend’s a singer and has gone to vocal doctors or whatever. They told her that she actually needs to use a deeper resting voice because when she speaks in a higher pitch she straining her voice unnecessary. So now she talks (or tries to) talk in a deeper tone. #science

I never noticed but by watching this video I saw all her Botox, lip injections, and nose job. Crazy it was so subtle.

I'm a stan but I agree. You can clearly see she's had fillers, an eyebrow lift and a nose job. Hate to see how offended people get, as if pointing it out is a bad thing and you're saying she's ugly. She's beautiful regardless.

@@mistypeach- I have quite much knowledge on these stuff and I find it stupid when people bashing stuff on celebs without actually knowing anything about each procedures and it's side effects. She didnt get a brow lift regardless. But fillers? Yes.

The TRUTH about her speaking voice is that when she played her character (cat valentine) she had to put on a high bubbly voice for her, but Ariana herself didn’t feel confident or comfortable with being herself so she hid behind the character cat, but she started to accept herself and be herself, that’s how she started talking her normal self. But idk what 2014 was lmao (I love my queen ari tho, what a cutie)
