I'm currently working on a built from scratch enclosure for my adult black headed monitor and this video was exactly what I had been looking for. Not new to lizards, or even arid lizards, but this is my first monitor and I want to put together the best enclosure I can. You answered my question of what to seal the foam with too! I know this is an "old" video but I still learned from it all the same. Thanks!

Amazing! We've been working on a desert enclosure for a long time now, spending months doing research and trying different approaches. The goal is to create a "naturalistic" environment so the inspiration comes from the gorges of Karijini! Specifically Hancock Gorge. Both because the scenery is stunning and because our beardie is named "George". His full title is now "Beardie George from Hancock Gorge".

I’ve just built a pink tongue skink enclosure and had a grevillea for that was going to be for a different set up but I thought I would put it in, anyway few hours in, he’s crawled all over it and it’s all trashed.

Gutted!! They are sensitive little things considering they are supposed to be hardy. It’s hard to find one that’ll suit certain light, soil, moisture and heat for a terrarium. One day I’ll find one!

hey i have one of those repti zoo glass tanks u assemble, and it has areas the glass fit that arent sealed. Do you think i should silicone all the glass? i didnt plan on making a backdrop but i do need 3 or 4 in of soil and where the gaps start is right about 3 inches and i keep worrying about water or bacteria getting stuck in the cracks. its for a ball python viv. Right now i have 2 in or so of soil just to avoid stuff seeping down into the cracks on the side.

@BeachesScalyBeasts

I do 3 coats over the whole thing including the basking spot in this enclosure. If if doubt maybe add one or two more coats to the basking area.
