swag lad I'm a huge fan of Meia, when he can get it to the Ground he's definitely very exciting. And silver is partially to blame since it takes two to fight. But the Woodleigh fight I believe Damien Maia broke the record for most he'll take down attempts at 27. It's hard to have an exciting fight when the person is literally shooting on you every 30 seconds, and even with that Woodley still manage to knock him down. So it's not like he wasn't trying to go for.

It was maia fault. That's the problem if you're a one dimensional fighter. A one dimensional fighter will always bring a boring fight. Yeah maia is great on what he does, great jiujitsu and submitting people but not all the times you have to rely on that because the time will come that he will face a fighter who are stylistically a bad match up for him. He got the price when he faced silva and woodley.

@@FXGARZA Have you seen Silva's fights? People keep saying he could have ended the fight but fail to realize that's not Silva's style. He is a counter fighter. All the knock outs he has are by his opponent engaging him and then he counters. Maia I believe only through maybe 7 strikes throughout the entire fight and even then he didn't commit with those strikes.
@Ricardo7250
@Ricardo7250 3 жыл бұрын
@@93King It's not about style. In combat sports both athletes have to be actively engaging in the fight, it's part of the rules to prevent tedious (or even null) fights. If you keep running in circles around your opponent (like Silva did from round 3 onwards), you aren't actively engaging. The judge saw that in this fight but he interferred too late and Silva didn't lose any points from stalling.

Jaikay1 Even when sparring with someone, if you can play with them like that, you don't, theirs no point other than to disrespect and look like a fool. Anderson could have ended the fight multiple times but chose to run around and even away from Maia, it wasn't just a matter of Maia being outclassed, it was a matter of Anderson making them BOTH look like fools... He really should have just ended the fight in the 3rd or 4th, instead he was getting warnings from the ref to "engage and stop running or I'm gonna take a point". Yeah. We need a MMA company whose gimmick is that all their fighters win by running away while taunting. They'd call it Run Away Taunting Championship or RAT Championship. Their logo would be a big sniveling rat. They'd put UFC out of business by showing the fights fans really want to see, where two fighters run laps around the ref while shouting names at each other and flipping each other off. This is genius, bro. You really have your finger on the pulse of the MMA world.

The UFC was far more entertaining when it was an unregulated "bloodsport". Nowadays, there's people who complain about guys not wanting to throw hands, when the fights go to decision...then there's people who complain about mismatches when the fights end in the 1st round. When it was considered a "bloodsport" everything was far more open, there was more variety and a lot more fighting styles brought to the table. Too bad those days are gone...

4) In my opinion Maia should be the one being criticized for not trying to fight him. jiu-jitsu guys always talk about how 80% of fights end up on the ground, but they forget to realize that 100% of fights start standing up. Stand up is a necessity in fighting, and maia was scared to try and stand up at all with Silva. He should be criticized for not wanting to fight. For me it is more respectful to be like Forest, and get knocked out early by trying to come at Silva.

Joe Silva and the UFC needed a double-title fight for their debut in Abu Dhabi and they did the best they could getting the middleweight with the best chance of beating him. Silva belongs MAYBE at 205 and definitely at 220 if he can get there. There would be PLENTY of competition for him as a heavyweight.....

People like to throw around the "Art" word...well...that's all a part of the "Art" of the fighter. He is expressing himself. Of course, I would say the majority don't like "Art" or a fighter/person expressing themselves the way he wants...instead...how you/we want them to be. I just know it doesn't work that way and can accept what the fighter is about. Again...if you want it different...challenge him to adjust. UFC makes the match-ups and not the fighters...right? It starts from the top.

Wasn't the sonnen fight after that? and Silva was injured. And against a more skilled fighter. But to be fair Silva still punished Sonnen for insulting the school where he got his black belt. He submitted him like Sonnen said he sucked at and took him the distance besides that. I'm not sure if it was his game plan (while injured) to take it that long before submitting him (as an insult?) or just to submit him at some point but he still payed him back. and it was still hilarious.

@dcapp123 I totally agree with your point, he should have chosen to finish the fight instead of choosing to act like a clown. However, he wouldn't have made the wrong choice if Maia would have actually tried to fight him. He handled it wrong and didn't act like a professional, but it was caused by a non-worthy opponent. Peace!

i love how people hate on Anderson for winning fights effortless. to me the fight was entertaining enough, he clowned Maia the first 2 rounds, and the last 3 he just skipped around Maia and won. "Apologize"??? maaaan, saying that is ridiculous, if anyone should apologize its Maia, he didnt even try winning. Anderson is already a legend. he has nothing to prove. also, Dana is just mad at Anderson because the crowd boo'd Anderson.

@stockmaster1982 The problem is that the 185 division is probably the weakest in the UFC. Other than having a "super fight" between GSP and Silva, there are few options here. Maybe Silva goes to 205 lbs and fights some bigger opponents. I don't know, but it's not a hypocritical thing at all. With regard to Fedor, the UFC has given him everything he wants, but Fedor does not want to fight unless he gets a stake in the UFC itself. Nobody is going to give him that.

Silva apologized but obviously didn't mean it...His excuse was that Maia had disrespected him. I just never heard how? My second point is that while a little of the showboating was entertaining, he has a responsibility to finish the fight fast if he can. It's his job! If we have the champ continually disengaging to dance and hiding behind the ref meanwhile his corner screaming for him to finish the fight..... people are going to start complaining about fight fixing! That is the real danger.

I didnt see the fight, but I did hear plenty about it. if it was worse than the Leites fight, then I have a good idea about what went on. Put Silva up against another striker. Someone aggressive and unorthodox, not another Jiu Jitsu guy. They are afraid to engage with him and he will not put his belt at risk unnecessarily. I blame White for the match up as much as Silva for showboating/stalling.

This is excatly why i like boxing so much more than UFC, im not saying UFC isnt a great sport, but when people say boxing is crap now, or that its going out you just need to show people videos like this, there are to many exploits in UFC and this fight was a good example of that.

...because I honestly believe Anderson has learned his lesson. He will NOT behave this way again. To Anderson, if you happen to read this AND if it must be said, fans wanted you to commit all your skills to finishing the fight...not to end the fight dancing around. We were truly cheated out of an end to a fight and a professional showing. Dana has a business to run and must be at the forefront of what fans think. Don't blame Dana for doing what is his job.

But I'm also not blasting Dana for what he said because he has that right to say what he wants as well. He can hurt Silva by cutting him like he said he would do if it happens again...but the ball is in Silva's court as well because he can choose to go elsewhere or just retire and live life the way he wants to. After all, it's his head/brain...it's his health. There is no script in a "real" fight. This isn't WWE like many fans seem to be from.

@JASPURR9933 deluminator is not lying. He literally just ran around, not throwing anything, just literally running from the dude so he didn't get hit. He got beaten every round, which were all very uneventful. Then out of no where, he decided to actually do something and got an arm bar at the end of the fifth round. It sucked balls.

@M1GU3L07 This is exactly what I mean. Whether you want to see it or not, Silva fought, whooped Maia, and then fought while messing around for the rest of the match, and won by desicion. He isn't required to finish anyone off merely for the crowd. If you enjoy the sport then you take the fights for what it is. You don't go on a "I want my money back" rant because you weren't entertained due to not seeing a finish. That's what WWE is for.

The true level of disrespect here is shown by Dana White. The embarrassment is the low caliber of the opponents White keeps matching up with Silva. Silva merely demonstrated at the physical level the lack of White's respect for his fighters and audience.

Going back to Jack Johnson: It is relevant. Although I don't think Johnson ever apologized for the way he fought. He just laughed. From what I read; Johnson couldn't fight like that when he was fighting competition that could take his head off.

I still can't understand what was so bad about the fight. I was highly overwhelmed seeing Silva totally toy with Maia. It showed he was on a whole different level which I've never seen. I guess ufc fans just loves to see there big finishes. How brainwashed and simpleminded people can be...

I agree. Like come on. They keep bringin in these hacks who probably are good fighters but just won't test Sliva. I saw that fight and you know what Silva's opponent's face was decimated so he did his job. It aint his fault that the guy wouldn;t go after him. I think he should cut weight and go GSP becasue that would be a great fight and test for Silva.
