Thanks for the great videos of your experience. Had an atom 3 and have been to look at the nomad at the factory. Was considering another atom but your video has cemented that the access to places you cant reach with this car is worth the extra money. The options you outline are going to help with the configurator. Good luck with your further adventures. If your ever stuck for digs in the west coast of Scotland or kefalonia in Greece drop me a line. So excited about future adventures and thanks for sharing your wonderful trip. Better start saving.

Thank you for a very honest and thorough view of what it is like to live with the Nomad. I have been planning to get one for my relocation to NW Thailand and this has made me aware of a few things I need to consider - not just the sunshine and heat at one part of the year versus the rain at another . . . My wife might need to do some exercising to get in and out, but I should manage it (I might be getting on, but I'm pretty active) and if she really insists on taking more than a toothbrush we still have the HiLux. Yep - I still intend to get one - now to cope with the 385% import taxes . . .
@MostCommentsAreFake-ud8by

Hi, did you find a way around the import taxes. Will someone assemble the vehicle in Thailand ?
@sameebah
@sameebah 3 жыл бұрын
@@MostCommentsAreFake-ud8by - Too risky. There was a clampdown on that approach, so best to accept the costs or find an alternative.
@MostCommentsAreFake-ud8by
@MostCommentsAreFake-ud8by 3 жыл бұрын
@@sameebah - Thanks for the reply. I am not proposing to scam the import taxes. A legitimate engineering company could assemble the vehicle in Thailand. Otherwise this Nomad would be just too expensive. The Ariel Nomad would look amazing on Thai roads.
@sameebah
@sameebah 3 жыл бұрын
@@MostCommentsAreFake-ud8by - As I said, the Thai government have clamped down massively on the importation of components in order to assemble a vehicle. Confiscation, combined with massive fines and possible prison time and expulsion from the country are too big a price to pay.

I want to drive this here in South Africa. Half of the roads are gravel and mountain roads. We also have every climate imaginable. Tropical, desert, semi-desert, bushfield, forest, jungle, mountainous, snow, sand, dirt, mud, grass, tar. You name it! Just imagine the adventurous possibilities with this! My permanent residence is also on a farm, so I'm one turn away from miles and miles of open road. It is hot here though, especially in summer, but location changes climate so thoroughly, you just drive to where it feels right. It'll be, as said; "Pure, unadulterated fun." But I'm still a student so for now my quadbike suffices.

@@MudNomad I think it's perfect, everything is close enough so that touring requires minimum luggage. If you are interested, check out the semi-deserts and sand deserts of the Kalahari. It's situated between North Cape and Namibia. And if you're looking for flats and hills, search for our other Province, Free State.

Pull a tiny trailer. Like less than 400lbs total. That puts at least a 40lb load on the hitch for stability. Put your cooler, maybe a refrigerated one with a tiny battery and a solar panel so it charges while traveling and trickles while parked. Low profile, maybe 2x2x4 long.
@MudNomad
@MudNomad 4 жыл бұрын
IMO every trailer, no matter how small and light, stops you from enjoying driving. They work very very well for many purposes, I just don't think it would work in this case.

Could you make side panels from stiff transparant material that is heat-molded around the frame? Perhaps it would be in one piece with the windshield then... Maybe some rubber spacers to allow for the frame flexing a bit.

Very informative and objective look at the car, something car testing magazines and videos don't do. Seems Ariel never tested the car outside the UK with that heat issue, here in the American Southwest that would be unbearable. It should have a panel with baffles that you could open and close (like some touring motorcycles have had for years) depending on the outside temperature. Any chance you can cut holes in the floor pan and install removable rubber grommets (like car trunks) so you can drain the water after washing it? Great video, cheers to you both in your adventure.

I guess it's such a niche model with such a limited sale numbers that it doesn't make financial sense for them to perform tests in various climates. I love it regardless though :)

Hey thanks for the awesome (and detailed) review :) I live in Upstate New York USA - and have been thinking about buying a nomad. I am 6’4” - so do you think I would fit? Are the pedals adjustable like the Atom?
@MudNomad
@MudNomad 5 жыл бұрын
TBH I don't know whether pedals are adjustable. They fit me fine so I haven't touch it. There are few more inches to move the seat backwards with my 6ft height. The best would be for you jump in in one and try it out.

Well I see this was uploaded in Aug 2017 so he would appreciate the new Nomad Tactical. This model would be frustrating. I think this guy would really like a Jeep. You can be open and have all the experience of the outdoors plus it can go anywhere and will go 💯 mph. All with no mess just no the speed.

Why not get a case and mount it where the spare tire is and use one of those foam things for tire ruptures? Edit: your solution is better.
