Something you missed is to pay attention to the arrows when placing the tracks. Those arrows indicate direction of train placements And are also why a lot of the custom connections don't work because the arrows are pointing at each other.

Hey was starting work on my own railway on our SE private server, and just discovered the pillar thing myself so thought I would come watch a general tips video, very informative and I think the pillars really change how difficult it is to lay tracks.

the free place little track currently is 5 foundations long to connect to another track. a single long track is 5 foundations long and two foundations wide.

You can put crop plots on a train platform and plant xplant turrets BUT... when the turrets are full grown and you drive away the plants stay suspended in the air and are no longer on the platform. The crop plots stay on the platform but not the plants.

How are people building them on pillars or building pillars below them? I need to raise mine but it won't snap to any pillars and when I build one track ontop of a pillar it actually does work and will place it BUT after that I can't snap any other tracks to that one. Says requires foundation support but when I try to place pillars below it, it then says it's obstructed lol I don't get how people are building them on pillars!

You habe to first build up the track by placing the track on the ground, than snapping the next piece so it points upwards. If u can no longer build in the air because there is no foundation u attach pillars to the tracks themselves and build them downwards until they hit solid ground. They basically work the same way as roofs in this regard

Can you build a long track and put a loop on the end so you can turn the train around and drive back? Can you attach connectors to any track (have not been able to attach connectors to anything that isn't ON the ground)? Why didn't you simply try to build higher than 2 walls on the cart to see how high it can go? You can attach ceilings to the carts, can you place a turret on the ceilings?

The problem with trains on a PVP server is that the tracks will be easy to find. You find tracks you have 1 of 2 options. Destroy the tracks wasting all the resources used to make said tracks for your opponent. Secondly, the tracks will most likely lead back to a base which can then be focused. But IMO the destroyed tracks will be a huge waste of 200 metal, 400 wood, and 50 cementing paste per track you lay down. I would love to see a video on how you set them up on a PVP server and devise a way to protect the tracks within and outside your territory.

You mention there are server settings to prevent resources respawn on the track. Can you say what these settings are?

It's not server settings idk why I said that. Game.ini [script/shootergame.shootergamemode] I just popped onto the cluster and the track we have has rocks in it. So 1 of 2 things most likely 1. Either they don't have the correct "flag" so resources respawn normally.. 2. The setting 0.25 for us maybe is not enough because the area of the effect that would stop resources is disproportionate to the size of the track and needs to be a higher number to offset. but that may affect the aesthetics of bases to a minor degree. Those are the codes though for it.

I should note vanilla is 1.0 iirc and we wanted foliage close to the builds so ours is a lil lower.

Umm I am not sure on losing stuff, however messing with it, I was able to oddly get structures to stay in the air and unsnap from the build on a train car so I could see how items could also disappear too?

More structures to build with on pve is never a bad thing. Pvp settings would work but most pvp servers turn turrets on platforms off on saddle plats, ect. Because it’s broken and dumb. Imagine trains rolling by your base on scheduled intervals loaded with turrets.

yep! Tested this out yesterday to be sure, but yeah anyone even those in the tribe that dont own the Bobs tall tales, can drive the train, and they can even pick it up and place it back down, along with the tracks and carts

@@DiamondSquidy I like the DLC. It’s an important piece of revenue to help keep the game going. However, don’t add something that contradicts your build rules. In my opinion, they need to separate the game. They should have a separate PVE, PVP, SOLO player DLC packs

The train cannot do a loopty loop to turn around. It can only go one direction. So your options are a straight line track, or one big oval track. You have to make sure all tracks are pointed the same direction. If you start building in one section with the tracks pointed one direction, then jump to another section with the tracks pointed the other direction, those two tracks cannot link up. They will not snap to each other. If, like me, you had hopes of a having a loop around your base, then a long line to your buddy's base, with a loop around it, you cannot do that. The train will not loop around something then travel back the other way down those same tracks. Of course Ark is not going to let a train work correctly. If you want the train to go back along the tracks the direction it came from, the train has to drive in reverse. As far as I know, the only way to make a train drive forward back the way it came, is to lay a second set of tracks parallel to the original.
