Just wanted to point out that if you are playing single player, the train will stop out of render distance. IF you are playing on a dedicated server it will continue to run even out of your render distance. Almost forgot, great video sir. Very informative I bandged my head against the wall for a couple hours before I looked up this guide 10/10!

Great vid! btw, You can add 5 cars, detach them from the engine, move the engine forward, add 5 cars, back them up in to the previous 5, attach them to the other cars :) You might.. have to attach everything one by one after the ones attached to the engine, i forget, but you can definitely have long trains, i haven't gotten one long enough to get out of render but that might just be the limit.

Tip for train stations. For the location of the rail line place a quarter foundation, then a full than another quarter foundation. Now you can use a ladder on the full foundation to center yourself when placing the rail line.

That would make sense as I was trying to make a loop on the Island but the train was going to face the other direction as I wanted to make a train yard. I think Snail should fix this as in real life trains can go either way on the track. It would also be interesting to see what happens when two trains colloid.

This will be great for the island. Build a track around the woods in my bases backyard connected to my loot room, throw a therizino on the back, quickly deforest, transport the wood back home.

I like everything they did with this except the one way track limitation. It would be nice to have a turn around loop for obvious reasons.

You only need to make 1 building skin. You can reuse it over and over.

Try putting an overweight oviraptor and turn un its ability since the oviraptors ability is to render fems to produce eggs, the rendering mechanics work on a few things

I put my train going around my base in a circle I did X plants but it left them above the track and I did have some that were not fully grown and once they grew up they got dropped off as well but the plants think they're on the train and their watered and they just work and the train just passes through them on the way around

Have to run. But fyi you can add ceiling tiles to the platform & extend outwards. Plus i use quarter ceiling to put at the ends of the platforms.

Customizable trains in my dino-punching game?? THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER!!

As a train enthusiast and long time ASE player, I would most certainly get this add-on if I had ASA on my Xbox One. However getting the game means I’ll have to get a new Xbox for it as my current one just the standard version, not the X or S Serious. The first thing I’d do after constructing my rail network would be to build a Tender (the train car the contains a steam train’s fuel and water) behind the locomotive for realism, and then go from there. By the way, this locomotive is a 2-6-0 “Mogul” under the Wyte Notation (the most commonly used system for identifying different types of steam engines. It works by tracking the number of wheels the engine has, which are arranged in 3 or so groups. Pilot wheels (unpowered) at the front of the engine, Driving wheels (powered) in the middle, and Trailing wheels (unpowered, unless it’s a booster unit) in the rear. Engines will sometimes of more than one pair of drivers in the middle. Certain types of engines are exempt from this system (Geared steam engines for example). If an engine doesn’t have pilot and/or trailing wheels, it will be shown as a 0. Wheel arrangement examples: 0-4-0 “Porter” 4-4-0 “American” (the true cowboy train) 2-6-2 “Prairie” 2-8-0 “Consolidation” 2-8-4 “Berkshire” 4-6-2 “Pacific” 4-8-4 “Northern” 4-6-6-4 “Challenger” 2-8-8-4 “Yellowstone” 4-8-8-4 “Big Boy” Sorry for the history lesson, I didn’t mean for this comment to be this long.

I knew you were a train person. Lol I wonder who will be the first to build the Polar Express. A haunted train design complete with a death worm aboard might also be a deliciously spooky idea for Halloween. Death worm, maybe a lot of fires in the last car. Lots of design potentials. I don't even own Bob's Tall Tales; in fact I've been waiting on playing much ASA until more of the maps are released... But I must admit I was very, very intrigued by the train, and your video did an excellent job informing me on how it works. (And it definitely has tempted me into reconsidering playing ASA!) I was also really curious to know how creatures interact with it (do they aggro to it, or mostly ignore it?), so thank you for including that hilarious clip of the Deathworm.

Great video nice work! I love the trains in this! I too had a grin on my face but placing tracks is a nightmare for me. If Ark had the same track mechanics as Satisfactory that would be a game changer for me.

You can put crop plots on a train platform and plant xplant turrets BUT... when the turrets are full grown and you drive away the plants stay suspended in the air and are no longer on the platform. The crop plots stay on the platform but not the plants.

Add more Cars to your Train line with this: [Server Settings] MaxTrainCars=22 Twenty Two cars is the FUNCTIONAL MAXIMUM. Train Engine and entire line will de-render if you're too far from it, and 22 cars reaches the max distance.

I wonder if there is a specific reason for the coded direction. I really wanted to turn the train around with a loop but it's not possible.

you can go through all the different angles of the track, left right up down level by just pushing the snap button, on xbox controller its right bumper not sure on pc.

I wonder if the Tek Surveillance Console would take the train out of stasis by looking at it when it’s out of render distance.

Where did you get the x plant seeds? Didn't think they were on this map.

Just a couple of tips I didn't see mentioned, For one, do not stop trains on top of track splits. It tends to either break connections or render cars and the engine inside of each other. This can also happen if leaving the train and cars against a track stop. For two, mounted water tanks can only be filled by hand or by rain, intakes, even ones in range, will not fill them up. This makes any onboard farms require a lot of water storage to keep going, depending on how many plots you have. I have not tested this yet, but I would guess the same is true for electricity. For three, because i wondered the same thing, no, the train is not capable of ramming, in fact the engine itself is unable to be built upon and only mostly a physical object, the entire undercarriage of the platform cars are not physical objects at all and you and dinos can walk right under them unhindered. For four, tracks must always be contiguous, meaning they must be constructed as an overall circuit. He did mention this point briefly, but I felt I should emphasize that this means you cannot have smaller circuits, I.E, a turn around loop on a line, the train system was definitely designed to make giant, continuous circuits moving in a singular direction. That said, you can construct storage/bypass lines along the circuit for multiple engines and other cars. Thoigh notably there are no crossing track aegments, only joints, so in theory you could cross tracks with two joints mirroring each other. If it helps, imagine the track segments as having polarity, like a battery. For five, simple beds (and the coffin from the dlc) will likely gliych you into being stuck in the car floor, however the bunk bed works fine, haven't tested the cryobed but I imagine it would also glitch. For six, while the platform cars count as foundations, 2x4, you can only build out one foundation from the side of the car. The limit will not allow you to add more than just a ceiling, sometimes allowing you to make the ceiling a trapdoor and add a rope ladder. In my case, I used this minimal extention as landing pads and platforms to enter and depart over at train stations.

Finally working on mine today. Hope i can mine all the metal, lol

Not sure if this works since I haven't tried this myself yet, but I've heard if you disable hibernation when things are out of render, that fixes the train stopping when it leaves render.

all i can see is a loop going around a base and having as many velonisaurs on it just as a mobile gun train, unless they wont let you put them in turret mode on the train when we get extinction, or just put 1 dino on and have a bunch of things on aggressive follow it

Steve nooblets please do a video on the series s there not drop lights spawning since scorched it’s been reported as a bug and still not fixed same issue on island no drop lights there there but only see when u 10 steps away and no colour to any or light

@nooblets have you tried the "nohibernate" keyword on startup in single player? This might let the train move even when out of render distance.

Be great to do if I could get mine to work...it does when it wants....ridiculous how this game is broken...dont get me wrong ..love the game..but ever since I bought the dlc for 30 dollars..it has worked half the time...but nice video

Unfortunately Tall Tales still doesn’t work for many of us on Xbox single player - bought it, it says I own it, but all the items remain locked. No point in buying something you can’t ever use, Wildcard…

I play PVE on a private unofficial server with friends. not all of them want to buy the DLC. Can one player owning the DLC build trains and stuff and other players that don't own the DLC can still play on the server?

I followed all of the steps and have my Ports 7777, and 27015 Port forwarded and have made firewall exceptions. But I cant see my server. I have it showing all, Password protected, unofficial, and show player servers. WTF am I doing wrong? I don't know anyone else with the game so far, so I cant test to see if its available outside my network. What else can I troubleshoot?
