Today I will begin stripping down this 103 year old tub, so that I can refinish it to use in our home.

Love the history behind the tub 👍🏼 my Wife and I bought a Victorian home built in 1841 . We are in the process of restoring and one thing is the tub and I’m doing it today . That camera your using is absolutely amazing in the color. Thanks for the story Brotha 👍🏼

I did this with the tub we found at our 155 year old farm house. Sanded it by hand forever. Used epoxy paint and it came out fine. Worth the work. Love the channel.

Live up in NE AR. and I enjoy your Videos! I don't Know if you get the local trade paper the Merchandiser,located in Paragould, but there use to be a company that refinished tubs that advertised in it!That maybe too far for you to transport,but I thought I'd mention it! If you're interested I would try to check on it for you.God Bless!

Beautiful story. Thanks for sharing. You could buy few pack of firebricks and build a kiln for wood firing the porcelain coating. Would be much better than using epoxy finish on this remarkable piece of your family history.

there is a place in missouri that does re-porcelain jobs, I priced getting an old cast double farm sink done. it was near $2000 to have that done.
@ArkansasHomesteader4 жыл бұрын
Ouch. I knew it would be a 1000.00, but for 2000.00 I think I would try this Ekopel 2k first anyway. Hope your sink turns out great.

Phil, I plan on hooking running water up to it this time! It should be much nicer to use that way.

I did some powder coating of things in the past, never tried it on something so large, but would maybe work?

Hi great job ! I just wondered what kind of primer you used on your tub .

We have one that we need to clean up, repaint, and get the appropriate fixtures for so we can have it installed.

Wow, that was hard work! Thanks for posting how to do this. I really struggled to remove the citristrip and muddy lifted paint, it would just re-spread everywhere, any other tips? I did pretty good with constant scraping and sponging, but it took 4 hours. Are you not worried about lead, because it is more of a liquid mess? I still wore a mask to be safe. Thanks!

i have enjoyed watching these videos! so much so that i am following your steps while i refinish one of my own. what type of primer did you use on the tub after you finished grinding it down?
@ArkansasHomesteader2 жыл бұрын
I think I just used a rustoleum spray can primer.

Great story. I know it's too late, but have you considered having it powder-coated?
@ArkansasHomesteader4 жыл бұрын
I did. Once I realized that I couldn't get the porcelain redone that was my 2nd choice. But when I researched it there have been quite a few people that tried that and were not happy with the results. This Ekopel 2k appears to be the most durable finish othe than the reporcelaining.

@@ArkansasHomesteader I figured you thought of it, but wanted to toss it out there anyway. I'm truly enjoying the build, keep up the great work.

Love your tub story. When you moved in to the old farm house, did it have running water? I have a story about an old clawfoot tub that i held on to for over 20 years, its ending was sad. 😪
@ArkansasHomesteader4 жыл бұрын
Yes, by the time I moved back into the old house my oldest brother had lived in it for a time and upgraded it to running water, so by the time I moved back there were no more cisterns and pitcher pumps. Do tell what happened to your tub? I thought they were all but indestructible....
@suenorton8734 жыл бұрын
@@ArkansasHomesteader without me knowing someone in my family took it, I say they stoled it. The tub sat in my dog kennels for years. That person was living hard times and took it for money. I was showing my house n when i walked into the kennel i yelled, someone stole my tub! I was not happy.

I have an L Wollf tub from 1901 that is missing the feet. We are following your methods for restoring it (currently stripping years of paint off it) and trying to find a set of feet. Do you have any idea where to look, or is it possible to get a close up view of what your feet look like?

What kind of paint can I use after I have primed it
@ArkansasHomesteader3 жыл бұрын
For the exterior you can use any type paint you like. But there is no paint that will hold up on the inside from what I found. I even tried looking into powder coating. The only two options I found that would last on the inside were the two part epoxy that I used or getting it re-porcilined.
@edpoe46222 жыл бұрын
I'm still waiting for someone to actually restore one of these instead of just painting it.
@ArkansasHomesteader2 жыл бұрын
If by restoring you mean re-porcelaining it, its sort of cost prohibitive. That's what I was wanting to do, but the cost was going to be about $1200 plus another 500 shipping. You can buy a brand new cast iron claw tub for that amount.
