Arken Zulus and Arken Ballistics vs Hornady 4DOF. Does it work? 200 and 300 yards 6.5 creedmoor.

In in this content i spotlight once again my Christensen Arms Ridgeline 6.5 Creedmoor equipped with my Arken Optics Zulus LRF (Laser Ranger Finder) model digital day/night optic. In some past content i ran into a situation that the ballistic suggestions did not match up with those of the Hornady 4DOF application i have been using. Recently spend some time and redid the zero process with the Zulus LRF and got things sorted out at 100 yards. This content is at 200 and 300 yards using the range finder and suggested ballistic holdovers. I am pleased to say the suggested aim points within the optic were nicely spot on resulting in shots on target. Though i did not feel the pair of shots were too accurate on further measurement both distances were under 1 moa. I compared the data from Arken to the Hornady applications and the suggested solutions are extremely close and both place shots on target. The Zulus is managing recoil of the 6.5 well, holding zero performing as advertised. Great Day/Night optic and more fun to use the more time i have behind it.
This optic is going to be fun recording hunts!
In this video i am firing hand loaded Hornady SST bullets at approximately 2700 fps.

Sight Mark makes the Wraith. Both are nice I like most features on the zulus though

The people who benefit most from the Zulus and its ballistic calculator are air rifle and rimfire shooters They shoot projectiles with a very curved trajectories and at ranges where the Zulus is able to produce a clear sharp image

I would politely disagree. Anyone who uses a ballistic application for long range shooting will benefit. The accuracy of the application is dependent on the accuracy of the input variables ( velocity, ballistic coefficient, angle, wind, etc). Shooting a .308 600y across a canyon with 20mph winds it's as useful as shooting a .177 caliber 75y or 75 feet.

I'm not knocking ballistic calculators per se, and in your example of a 600 yard shot across the canyon using a 308 and a 20mph wind, a ballistic calculator would indeed be helpful However, for that shot, the target would need to be rather large for it to be seen in sufficient detail and with sufficient clarity with the Zulus to allow it to be a safe and humane shot I'm a huge fan of the Zulus and have owned a 520R since last October and have used it extensively. I just think that it is at it's best for shorter range work (up to 300-400 yards) where it can hold it's own against glass scopes far better than at longer ranges where it's lack of resolution and clarity are cruelly exposed when compared to even mediocre glass

Would you shoot a 308 (175gn) with it? I'm concerned about recoil with such close eye relief.

Yes, I have. I've mounted it to .308, 6.5 cm and 300 winmag now with no issues.

The optic is rated to 50bmg. The eye cup you put your face on is super soft rubber. It's basically just a sun shade so you can see the screen

Definitely not a sub moa optic no, but wasn’t really designed to be either. The fact that it can do the calculations for you is definitely a better help then being sub moa, to me anyways. What good is sub/moa accuracy if your dope is wrong and your POI is off by a lot? Still not gonna be good results in the end either way. On top of NV….definitely a great package deal I’d say Thanks for doing the video, looking at one for a 308 build for a 0-300yrd gun and finding center fire rifle videos for research has been difficult, everything is air gun stuff

@@RugerGundog I’m waiting for the 3-12 version for my build but if they did an LPVO 1-6or 8 version…..that’d be sweet! Granted that new thermal unit coming soon from them could really be a game changer also.

I would prefer a higher resolution screen within the Optic. But....in general for night predator hunting it will do great. Also fun to film deer harvests soon.

@@RugerGundog don’t have one personally yet, but I can definitely agree with that already. Better resolution is always better all around. But at price point given, it probably had to be an accepted downgrade.

@@gavincline209 I wouldn't go as far as to say the resolution is poor by any means. In fact in comparison to some other models in the same price bracket its a good deal better. My 16 year old son has no complaints of the resolution...i suspect some of this is due to my aging eyes as well. The more time you spend behind the Zulus the more enjoyable it becomes.
