A quick correction, the core box includes a complete campaign. The next thing coming out is the first deluxe expansion, Mythos Packs will follow that.

That's not my understanding from what was in the rulebook. It mentioned the campaign continuing after you were finished.

FFG has announced the Deluxe Expansion The Dunwich Legacy and it's first Mythos Pack The Miskatonic Museum with release dates 4th Q 2016 and 1st Q 2017 respectively.

Yeah it does which is weird since they are doing a new campaign with the first expansion and suggest starting a new character.

That seems fine to me. I think they want to encourage people to try different investigators with each campaign, just to hammer home how different an experience it can be. But less people will do that as time goes on, so why not get people to try a new campaign and investigators with the first release after the core?

Been watching quite a bit of reviews for this game in order to make a decision, just wanted to pop on here and say your review was exceptionally done and has had the greatest impact on my decision to pick this up! Quick out of the traps, as usual, Joel. Excellent run-through, which helped me to get my head round the game much better than a reading of the rules book.

Excellent in-depth review! When I heard about this I was initially on the fence for Arkham Horror LCG because I agree with what you said about Lord of the Rings LCG. Lord of the Rings is fun but ultimately I lost interest in it awhile back and decided to put my money in other games like Pathfinder Card Game. Mummy’s Mask is out now and it is excellent! Arkham Horror looks different enough that I am more excited to try it now. I wish that Fantasy Flight did a subscription program for this stuff like Paizo does for Pathfinder. That 20% discount is nice as a subscriber and you get stuff as it is released.

I was disappointed that we didn't get to see what the box insert looks like. FFG has such great and innovative inserts that I really look forward to seeing them. :)

The inserts for the LCGs, however, have to date been awful. There is nothing but a central area where all the cards are thrown. I don't expect this time to be any different.

Great review! It looks like I'm going to get another Arkham game, I really like the persistent nature of it and it looks like the base set comes with a lot. This is one way to deck build without the tournament mentality folks killing the game. I was thinking about catching up with the NetRunner I've missed or trying to get Conquest before it goes away but now I think I'll pick this up instead, thanks! : )

Great review! I'm puzzled between Warhammer Quest TCG or this one... I already own Eldritch Horror (and every expansion) and Mansions of Madnes 2on edition, so the Lovecraftian theme is already covered in my collection, and we LOVE warhammer but... I know that Warhammer Quest TCG will not have any expansion and the gamplay I'm liking more Arkahm Horror LCG :( How you would compare the feeling with two player of both games? THANKS

They are pretty close in some ways and not in others. There's no dice rolling in AH, but AH has a more persistent (and more narrative) campaign. The Delve mode in WHQ is where it's at though. It's like playing a MUD or Roguelike style PC game.

+Drive Thru Review would You recommend buying two core sets for two players, or is one enough?

One is fine, but if you really like it, you can get a second and get into the deck building side of it.

Thanks! I think i'll start with one than and buy the second, for the re play if i feel it's necessary. I think since it's coop, having the strongest possible deck is less important than with competitive games (Conquest was barely playable with a single core set)

Joel, can you shuffle your discards back when you go through your deck, or is it like Pathfinder ACG?

That's a good question. I never made it through a deck in a single game, so I'm not sure actually! I'm sure it's in the rules though.

Can it be played solo then? If it can how does solo game play when compared with LOTR: LCG in solo play?

Yes you can play a single investigator and it works perfectly. I've run Wendy through the whole campaign and it was a blast.

You also can run... 2 investigators ! Like you can play 2 (or even 3, 4) heroes in lotr lcg game ! ;)

So, for someone being conscious of space and budget, do you think there's room for this for someone who already owns Mansions of Madness and Warhammer Quest ACG? It seems to kinda fill the same thematic niche as MoM and mechanic niche as WQACG. Does it feel like a unique experience or does it feel like it plays a very similar tune?

I still think it's a great game, and as it turned out Relic ended up *perfect*. You can still carry it to open game night! I haven't gotten in on X-Wing or Armada but Battlefleet Gothic will be a no brainer for me. : )

It seems like there can be a lot of cooperation between players. Did you try this solo with one investigator? How did it play that way?

I did actually. It was fine that way as well. One thing I didn't mention is that I think this is a game that really works fine with 1 or 2 players. I don't feel like it would be as fun with 3 or 4 (by adding another core set). Obviously, I didn't try it. It's just a hunch.

+Drive Thru Review I played the introductory scenario (the gathering) with 2P and 3P on Tabletop Simulator and really enjoyed it with three player. It was really fun. Just as fun IMO as the 2P game I played.

When titled THE LONG CON, I was expecting a trashing of an over stuffed and regurgitated themed card game, coupled with cash grab expansions...well, I guess it wasn't that.....

Thanks for the Nice review. My opinion is : The game is really nice. The story telling is really cool ! That's the big good part of the game (not sure it will last long once you know the quest well.. but... time will tell...) The mechanic is nice, once you got it, it get smoother and fluid. BUT... There are some BUTS ! 1) That BLOODY RANDOM BAG ! this can, make you lose so hard, without Any way to avoid it... I "died" few time just becoz those -3 -4 -5 and automatic fail chips.... and this is really... reaaaaaally frustrating... A LOT ! 2) That Bloody FFG CORESET POLICY ! That includes good cards only in 1copy instead of 2... So you have to buy a second coreset to enjoy the deckbuild... That's a shame ! Specially with a maximum of 2 cards and a decksize of 30 cards... 65/100 or has the devil says : 666/1000 Cheers from belgium.

Idee vee Just buying the same core set twice so that you can play 4 players...which seems weird to me because there are 4 characters included in each core set, but I haven’t experimented with deck building yet (just got this 2 days ago and I’m loving it). I actually like the chaos bag. I had the boss in the first scenario dead to rights and pulled out the ONLY token that would cause me to lose the check and I died laughing.

Have you seen "The Grim Rule" yet? "If players are unable to find the answer to a rules or timing conflict in this Rules Reference, resolve the conflict in the manner that the players perceive as the worst possible at that moment with regards to winning the scenario, and continue with the game." 0_0 Does FFG *hate* soloists or what? ^ ^

All the Neutral cards are 2-offs, the class cards are 1-off.

So the main idea is that this game is at least as good as WQACG and it is not going to get discontinued. There is a grain of salt here somewhere.

I was hoping for something different from the LOTR card game. I really dislike that game and this seems like mostly a re-skin.

Game has significant differences, if you can get a chance to try it out I highly recommend it, will make the differences much more clear.
