great video. I think there is always a placing of craft and craftsmen at lower level than artists. I have always felt them to be equals , but more like bookends. My feeling is that many artists are crafts people part of the work day and artists the other part of the day. If a person is a silversmith and making a teapot to another person's design or to an historical model, they are in the craft mode. If they are making a teapot which is their own design and a one off then they are artists. If that one off is popular and they are asked to make it again, then they are in the craft mode. Secondly the academic world and the media world are often ignorant or unaware that there are very skilled crafts people and artists who did not get sanctified with a college degree, but through training, practice and fate are just as skilled as the college grad, and that their art or craft medium may not be in the mainline of crafts/arts. I have seen guys who are unbelievable in metal machining, and do specialty metal work for antique car restorations, or High performance cars. The same is true with those who can free form sheet metal, yet documentaries do not include them as equals. Ornamental and utility iron work, foundry, stone cutting and carving, say in the cemetery monuments. The academic world needs to acknowledge these art/craft areas. Lastly - as a onetime shop teacher, it is a shame that there is no support by the art world in keeping alive shop and technical programs in middle and high schools. Many of the people who take up metal working and other kinesthetic careers, would have been greatly helped with an early intro during their middle and high school years.
