I couldn't help but shed a tear at the “Help me, Luffy” scene. Her origin is so sad. Emily Rudd really did a great job as Nami, and bringing one of my favorite characters to life.

This isn’t really a spoiler anymore since they already revealed grandpa thing. But technically, Garp’s full name is Monkey D. Garp.

Hello straw hats ;) In the Anime gives many other little stories. My favourite story is the story of chuchu. The music is different but the music in anime is great. I think a little bit better. We are, mother of the sea, the very very stroggest and the overtaken. Overtaken and mother of the sea are great. Look the eastblue arc of the anime. Then you see, how great the Anime is.

I love how much of the relationship between Nami and Arlong is shown in this episode and how all of Namis previous actions makes sense now. Arlong is clearly very eager to keep her in his crew and worried that she’ll leave, he even said so in the map room. Right after that he calls her a “good girl” but reminds her that humans must be brought to heel and sends her to Coco village just to drive home the point that everyone there hates and despises her. He needs to make himself the only option for her, making sure she’s got nowhere or no one to run to. Nami, of course, knows this so she plays the part Arlong wants, pretending to just use Luffy, pretending to not care about her friends in the village because if she does Arlong will get rid of them. When he realizes she’s going through with her plan to free the village he directly attacks it, taking away the one thing he knows she cares about. Pure, evil abuse from start to finish and Nami is strong enough to not be Stockholm’s syndromed into it.

Also, in the manga & anime, all of the villagers knew that Nami joined Arlong to save the village. Nami had told Nojiko & Nojiko ended up telling everyone after Genzo pressured her to talk. They pretended to hate her so that way she would eventually give up on them & start living her life without worrying about them.

The reason people know that Garp is related to Luffy is because Garp is a very very famous person, so they know his full name.

Because the impending writer strike, Matt Owens had to rush editing episodes 7 and 8, in fact he didn't finish and the studio had to finish the episodes without him. In one of his appearances with OP podcasters he talked about his regrets on not being able to put on the final touches and smooth it all out.

21:08 Luffy tells everyone his full name everywhere he goes, every chance he gets. Monkey D. Luffy is Monkey D. Garp's grandson. The series hasn't told us Garp's full name yet, but seeing how Garp is the man who brought Gold Roger in. All the big pirates were there to see what happened to Gold Roger, so yeah, every pirate knows who Garp is. Luffy going around the seas telling everyone his name is surely piquing some interest everywhere he goes.

In the anime, the Arlong Arc was about 2x longer than what the live action covered so yeah, tehy really had to condense a lot of stuff ther. Imo, Usopp and Nami's arcs were sadly the shortest in the live action. They could have done more but Netflix only gave them 8ep.. well, they did their best 😊 On the bright side, there's still the manga and anime at least -- each on their own is not perfect but as a manga reader who also watched the anime and live action, I got the good end of the bargain.

You are right. Characters have their own stories and motivations. And one day, you will may be learn why Arlong is like that. You won't excuse him but you will understand. In the live action, if it reaches this moment, it will be in season 5 or 6, may be later.😊

@@youtpfpm6097 They made aarlong black and yelling “I ain’t” during his speech was clearly inspired from African American history. Nazumi (I think that’s the rats name) insulted the fishmens intelligence it’s pretty clear the fishmen were enslaved. The average viewer can put two to two together about the fishmen. The anime hid this a lot better. My first time watching one piece I thought the fishmen were on some hitler German stuff. Wasn’t until later I realized the fish people were the ones that were oppressed.

@@djfusionkotbThe Western slave trade is harsh, and Africa isn't the only victim. e.g., In Japan, 50,000 people were put on ships by Portuguese, and all died as slaves. In the face of abuse and violence, some people show true strength by resisting the urge to succumb to despair or seek revenge. Their decision to take the high road without causing harm to themselves or others speaks volumes about their dignity and spiritual maturity.

18:59 Remember that Arlong's bounty is 20 million. He is asking for 5 times the price of his head, and he is a fishman pirate that has attacked civillians and marines. So 100 mil is...relatively a lot 20:59 Garp is very famous (Can't go into more specifics because of spoilers, but he is after all a viceadmiral), and if someone has heard his fullname, Monkey D. Garp, when they hear Monkey D. Luffy and Garp's insistance on catching him, it's easy to make the connection. Usually, people know Garp as "Viceadmiral Garp", that's why it takes people like Helmeppo or the straw hats by surprise, but if someone is very upthere in the navy like Mihawk (Isn't in the navy but is heavily connected) or has spent a lot of time at the sea in the younger days of Garp as a marine like Zeff then it's reasonable that they would know
@Itoyokofan
@Itoyokofan 2 ай бұрын
It's not a spoiler since Hellmeppo says it out loud in 2nd episode. Garp is the man who caught and (in OPLA) executed the Pirate King. So he's not just "famous", he's the greatest marine ever lived, if you follow what everyone's saying.

The live action made a fair number of changes in Nami's arc. A big part of it involves minimizing the relevance of the various villagers as well as the mom and sister. Nami's mother was never the type of girl to 'be a mom', and the whole villager thinks she's not suitable to raise those kids. She's a very violent tomboy type character, which originally shows in her character design by having shaved some of her hair and being a smoker. Obviously manga/anime can get away with more violent comedy as a whole, but in the live action it makes the slap look a little out of place and hard to put into context. The villagers used to secretly support Nami by pushing her away so that she would have reason to walk away from the fools errand she made into her life mission. The sister used to be Nami's only real supporter she shared everything with. And the iconic stabbing scene is what happens when the villagers are done with seeing Nami suffer, and decide to march on Arlong park regardless of Nami's objections... which Nami obviously knows will end up as a meatgrinder. The stabbing happens when she's literally losing her treasure and has nothing left she can do to stop them. As hard as the live action hits, the manga and anime versions hit even harder.

You forgot that Nojiko's tattoos are there so her sister wouldn't fell ashamed of her sawfish tatto (tattoos were frowned upon in Japan back in 1997). And Genzo's pinwheel is there because he wanted baby Nami to laugh when she sees his "ugly" face. Genzo was really close to Bellemere.

I really hate that they made Nami, a 10 yr old girl approach Arlong with a deal. In the original she is kidnapped by them right after Arlong offed her mom. She had no agency and it shows Arlong effectively breaking their deal as soon as he made it. Some changes to the live action seem to serve no purpose.
