Me too. John is already providing a public service with his videos. I'm planning to visit London when I retire and honestly his videos have been so helpful. But this is above and beyond the call of duty performing a law enforcement service without doing anything illegal in the process which is not always easy for a civilian. This is in the highest tradition of the press which I think we can count John as.

I'm an American and London is on my bucket list. I have a low tolerance for being humiliated in public. The best way to avoid humiliation is to behave like a civilized person. When I visit I'm planning to blend in as much as possible. Going to a London tailor with photos of the King and ordering what he wears not to impersonate his majesty but simply to follow his lead. He is the epitome of gentleman's style. Then when I do have my photo taken my grandchildren will look proudly at the photos. This includes visiting anywhere his majesty's guards are. A respectful distance is easy enough for anyone. But I particularly don't like people invading my personal space and so I don't like strangers getting too close to me and I treat others as I prefer to be treated. It's easy enough to angle a camera in such a way to make it look like you are closer than you are and there is a ton of stuff you can do in post production to make you look close as well. It's called forced perspective. If I'm having my picture taken with one of these well dressed guards in the photo I also want the photo to look dignified. You can probably guess I'm not a kid. I also want to note that these guards have probably the best uniforms of any military anywhere. Being seen in the same photo as one to me would be a proud moment. And I consider it incredibly kind that they let tourists photograph themselves with them at all. In my country you try that and you are going to be on the ground in handcuffs being dragged off in a government vehicle for extensive interrogation and put on the terrorist watch list. And don't get me started on how magnificent those horses are.

I like how John used his right to film in public as a tool to enforce the law passively when there were no police around to arrest this guy. We have the same right here in the United States with a few minor exceptions but few people use that right in such a manner as a public service.

It would simply move to another nearby tourist hotspot literally just off the bridge and it would two less coppers available to respond to more serious incidents across the city. It's a sad truth in every major city having watched it happening in so many cities when travelling across Europe.

Yes it would normally happen but the police numbers have been cut back by 23,000.

@@bernadettelanders7306 Yes, it's a version of the "shell game" and it's 99% certain to be a con job which is why it's illegal to play in so many countries. The woman was the "spotter" warning of police approaching and/or people filming like John and the guy who "won", seen briefly as John approached, is most likely the 3rd accomplice who "wins" so as to reassure those gathering around that those gathering around have a 1 in 3 chance of winning when there's virtually no chance. Like so many of the other scams in the major cities, it tends to be organised groups of certain nationalities/ethic groups who work these scams. It's a very big "business".

Some horses love having people give them face and neck massages all day. Others interpret that activity the way humans view a bunch of little flies swarming our faces. Ormond is obviously in the latter category. I would love to pose next to him as he is majestic but not at the expense of a broken hand and I know horses have a strong bite.

They often have someone nearby who will pickpocket once enough tourists are gathered around and are distracted when watching the "game".

It is illegal and it's why they have spotters to alert them of police coming along, etc.

Unfortunately it goes on in NY City all the time. It used to be done with cards & you had to pick the Queen to win. Don’t know if it’s still so popular anymore. I don’t go down to the city unless someone is visiting me and they want to go to NYC, of course.

These poor tourists who have never been before keep getting told off for standing in the arches. There's no sign and no chain even the guardsman didn't know.

Those people should go back to their country and scam their own people... don't come to England and do that....they have no right to talk to you that way John.

This is how it should be with all the horses! Tourist should stand back for photos and not touch the horses. Take photo move on. I love Ormonde pitty all the horses weren't like him.

That actually makes perfect sense! Certainly explains why many of the familiar horses have not had their hooves restamped.

Are we reasonably certain it is in fact Northumberland? A good number of Blues horses now have no readable hoof #!
