I am sick of these incidents continuing to happen in the city it feels like America. Soon our police will have to be armed at all times to protect citizens and themselves.there is a lot of mentally unstable people that shouldn't have access to guns or any weapons

How do you stop criminals who don’t abide by laws gaining access to firearms? I’m a legal firearms owner and we always seem to get penalised for following the law? So I’m interested what you think would work

The access isn't coming from licensing issues, it comes in the same way the drugs do, it's a shipping and border control issue, the trade is too lucrative and things are escalating as gangs sort out who's going to own the business like always...

I wish they would spend a little bit more money on firearms training for general duties officers. Watching some of these officers handle their firearms is painful, they look like they are holding a live snake. Very little comfort and weapon-familiarity on display. Thankfully the specialist officers are highly professional.

The problem is not in those blues with guns showing up on scene like that. The problem is nobody have a good control over those scenes not happening. Chk out recent Paul Chapman- the murderer court case. 29 (!!! )previous convictions of violent nature. The guy brutally killed young unconscious chap with 15 head-body hits. Got sentenced. 5 years in comfortable NZ prison.

Bro you would rather be safe than sorry. No matter what they do they're under scrutiny. They learned something from the Chch incident, and so theyre not taking any chances. Public safety is of upmost importance , especially in situations like these. Would you rather have these officers and not need them, or need them and not have them? Aside from that, they're using it as a good opportunity to train, for future events.. if you catch my drift.

Lots of crime in New Zealand and increasing by the year!… Gangs are taking over the country so the police need to be armed. Long guns may not be necessary in every situation but they need to be armed with handguns.

But there could have been multiple people or a whole gang armed with guns. They wouldn't have known at the time, members of the public can't be trusted to give proper information to police so they have to act accordingly. What if the offenders had a M249 or RPD machine guns? I think the response is was pretty good. Instead you should be embarrassed for not taking these factors into consideration and yes you do need a break so that you can actually do some research on how tactical response works. So ignorant of you to use hindsight.
