In this video I take you through my first true love in the Warhammer world, the verminous horde - Skaven. Settle in, there is a lot of models and a fun trip through the history of my modeling over the past 18 years. Hope you enjoy!

Oh yes, the original skaven, they make me shudder now, but I do still love all of them. :) - You know what that means, time to paint the army a 4th time! ;) But I appreciate it. When I say I am not an artist and there isn't an artistic bone in my body, I mean it. Everything I do comes from very targeted and deliberate practice over thousands of hours. I truly believe anyone could do what I do given the time and practice. :)

Vince Venturella well, thousands of hours, reflect on that, I do. Not just anyone put that time and focused dedication in to anything if they don’t have both the will, the drive from a genuine interest. Your an artist, and as most artist you work hard for your interest! I agree, I guess you could say that anyone could do what you do, but most wont, because only a very rare few have the burning interest like yours, that drives them in to the thousands upon thousands of hours painting to get to your level. So this Vincent, is pure inspiration, to see your earlier work, I wish you would keep them for us to see again later. Thank you 🙏

Your videos are getting me more and more into the Warhammer fantasy stuff. Gonna pick up a box of Skaven tonight I think (got one of their older codices and it's a great read). Thanks for all your effort, Vince - absolutely can't get enough of your videos.

Wow! We can see a lot of history in this video! Even if the Skaven are one my most hated army ;D - mortal wounds spam ecc - your collection is amazing, and i really love all your conversions!

+Archaeos 1861 Thank you sir, much appreciated. Skaven were my first love and once I got beyond the Clanrats, most of the figs were a labor of love and I converted most chances I had.

Your Hellpit conversion is awesome! and the double bell is crazy, I love it. The capes of the ghetto runner are nice flat and not that thick like other capes i have seen. This Skaven army is cool. Thank you for this this an all other videos you have done.

Thanks Vince, this is so great. You are truely the Godfather of wargaming, I am enjoying your Armies on Parade series so much. I did shed a tear as you went through your list of finished unshown armies, a WoC show case would be very enjoyable. In the absence of that choice, I'd like to see your Brets next please.

This is a nice collection of Skavens. Skavens were my first army in Fantasy and I have a lot of metal skavens. The double Screaming bell is insane.

Great to see the evolution into the super hobbiest we know today. I had a vision of you being born with a brush in one have and a skaven in the other and getting a painting award for your fist birthday.

Very inspirational ideas. You can also tell how much you love the hobby by listening how you talk about your minis. (only 1 Verminlord?)

+Amurayiwestgate I truly love this army. Yes, only one verminlord right now. In general, I only get one of those larger kits (time, cost, etc.) - that being said, this was one kit that seriously tempted me to get another one.

Totally my favorite video of yours and Skaven is my second favorite army (only to my beloved Greenskins). Thanks for taking the time doing it, it was quite a pleasant journey. Great looking army. I'm just a bit surprised that a Skaven slave (pun intended) finds the Hellpit fig too disgusting. Love it myself. I don't really care what's up next for as long as you cover your entire collection (maybe apart from the AoS stuff, that's just as disgusting to me as the Hellpit is to you LoL).

Vince, as always. love it! your videos keep me company while in hotels around the world and while painting in hotelbathrooms! (because hotelroom light is often crap) kind regards Richard. on a sidenote, i have somehow become the parttime creative manager of a gamestore in Jakarta (next to my real job) and we are doing lots of Aos stuff. all very interesting, hope i can join the community effort more in the future as your content and effort are a driving force for my imput in the commity here. and Indonesia is not really on the radar yet in your multinational group of "community leaders" ;) just need w find some time . i will be working on the facebook fot the shop soon. and hope to create some content/links for it!

You are right about the Ghorgan's shoulder pads. Very useful. They feature heavily in my beastmen chariots.

18:10 Stormfiends look nice, I also liked those rat ogres. And I feel what you mean about models with a plethora of weapon options. For some models I view it as a cool opportunity to magnetize but it depends on the model and how cool the weapons are. Like with my beastmen minotaurs I converted one to be a hero so I magnetized him but the rank and file came with so many weapons that I jut put weapons that looked cool. ....I also bitz hunted for extra minotaur bodies to use up all the extras from 1 kit.

+ThePeacemaker848 Yeah, the magnetization is always something that I have hated for weapons options. I don't mind it with a rider, but weapons options always just felt like they were waiting to be lost ;) - Thanks on the Storm Fiends and Rat Ogres, I am very happy with how they came out.

Vince Venturella ya, extra weapons almost feel like a waste. Which is why I think I've bitz hunted for extra bodies with most of my armies just cause I didn't want my 40 extra arms per box to go to waste.

Love it. Cool to see an army that stretches across time and includes minis from different periods in GW history. Though a surprising amount of unbased models there. :-) Really like the Stormfiends, but those brain rats... bleugh!!

+Stu Gibson Agreed. Well, in the old days, bases were less important, they still mattered, but when single models could turn and see 360 and such, it made bases less relevant and some of them I never bothered to update.

They are metal, so it may happen that I strip them some day, we'll see. I am certainly going to paint the last one at some point, maybe that will inspire me to do a few more :)

I don't know if you comment on old videos or not Vince but I would love to know how you did some of the paler models of the rat ogre skin and also the yellow skin colours. Really loved this vid though regardless. I want to paint Boneripper a pale skin colour cause I figure he's been put together so many times that all pigment might be totally gone by now. Totally agreed on your clan allegiances btw. For me it's Skyre > Eshin > Pestilens > Moulder but only because there are so many more models for Skyre over Eshin. Otherwise I might like Eshin better. I'm not a fan of a lot of Moulder stuff cause it tends to be gross surgery stuff and not in a cute Frankenstein way.... One of your gutter runners is an old school assassin I believe, and I had that Deathmaster Snitch back in the day (93-94?) Seems like Snitch is way way better in AoS too so I think I'm going to rock him next time. I'm going to rewatch this vid when I get to painting Boneripper. Thanks again.

So the grey rat ogres were just varying shades of light grey with a little purple to shade. The pale flesh was, if memory serves (it was a while ago) Vallejo Game Air Pale Flesh, or model color pale flesh, then shaded with some light red and purple tones and highlighted by adding a little pure white. I think what I need to do here is do a new Hobby Cheating series on doing pale flesh! That sounds like the right answer :) Skyre and Eshin forevery, the guns and the assassins - how can you go wrong? ;)

I've been going back through your old cheating vids but that pale flesh is simply the best I've seen and the applications--for miniatures at least--are practically endless. I'm also going to be reading the Thanquol novels soon and then hopefully the Queek one. Hope they're good! Thanks for the response dude!

I'm 1 min into the video and you said you sold off your army and redid it!!!!! That is the equivalent of repainting your old mini's my friend! ah ha! My Tau for example, I would sell it off and redo but I could never get the same value as what I bought it for so economics wise I might as well just repaint it.

+ThePeacemaker848 For me, it's not the economics of breaking even. I think repainting is different. Starting from scratch to me is somehow much different than repainting, at least IMHO. I am willing to take a loss as it's more contribution to a chance to do something better.

Vince Venturella If you sold your army and then bought roughly the same models it would be the equivalent of repainting yes? You have to assume that the person who bought your army is going to strip the models anyway if its a bad paint job. If you sold older sculpts and then bought newer sculpts then that is a different story. that is just different models entirely.
