Dan John has spent his life with one foot in the world of lifting and throwing, and the other foot in academia. An All-American discus thrower, Dan has also competed at the highest levels of Olympic lifting, Highland Games and the Weight Pentathlon, an event in which he holds the American record.
Dan spends his work life blending weekly workshops and lectures with full-time writing, and is also an online religious studies instructor for Columbia College of Missouri. As a Fulbright Scholar, he toured the Middle East exploring the foundations of religious education systems. Dan is also a Senior Lecturer for St Mary’s University, Twickenham, London.
His books, on weightlifting, include Intervention, Never Let Go, Mass Made Simple and Easy Strength, written with Pavel Tsatsouline as well as From Dad, To Grad. He and Josh Hillis co-authored “Fat Loss Happens on Monday.”
In 2015, Dan wrote Can You Go? on his approach to assessments and basic training. In addition, Before We Go, another compilation akin to Never Let Go became an Amazon Bestseller.
In early 2017, Dan’s book, Now What?, his approach to Performance and dealing with “life,” became a Bestseller on Amazon. Hardstyle Kettlebell Challenge became available in September 2017, too.

Funny enough there is a video on KZfaq of a Police Officer explaining exactly why he thinks and recommends the Armour Building Complex for Police Officers. Maybe you saw this and subconsciously remembered it? But if not look it up. He hasn't posted anything for like 6-years! So maybe having a comment from you may motivate him.

Easy Strength 3/4 times a week, ABC once per week. Lawn mowing, chainsawing and pest control as my job is keeping me going. 57 yr old male.

Hi Dan! I was thinking about the rationale behind the rep scheme of your ABC, and I wonder if I can conclude that (no matter what program I do for full body) I should do twice as much pulling than pressing and thrice as much of squatting? Is this a good proportion to keep in mind when looking for a balanced workout?

The rationale is that when I first came up with it, we were doing at the end of certifications and people were exhausted, putting weights overhead. This was safer. Later, turn out to be a great.

By the way, I never tried ABC since I started with kettlebells because it looked too "simple". I mean, just one press per round? C'mon... But it's such a popular workout on KZfaq that I gave it a shot. Oh, man... It left me laying on the floor sucking air like a jet's turbine after only 13 rounds EMOM with double 24s.

Hi Dan. Love your content. I recently got my Muay Thai school to purchase 2 24kg kettlebells. I am thinking of doing ABC 3x a week right before a muay thai class also 3x week. I can do it for 20 minutes with decent struggle. However with this setup. I will listen to my body. Some days do it for 20, others for 10 and others inbetween. 1 day will be dedicated to the gym and hit muscles I dont hit with ABC. Eg Chest, Back, Arms and extra glute training. Im 35, 6'1, 210lbs with 18% BF. Goal is general health, looks and longevity. What do you think of this setup? Thanks

Hi friend, I also practice Muay Thai and have recently turned 30. I have 2x 28 kg bells. What I will tell you about the ABC and Muay Thai is that the ABC can burn you out very quickly and may cause you to miss a session due to burn out. It could be just me that experiences this burnout, but I would recommend you armor build on your last training day of the week (right before your rest day) after your Muay Thai session. I have never tried the ABC for 10 minutes though, usually 20, it might work out well if shortened. Take care.

@@bobbysturdy8727 Thanks for the input. Yeah the ABC i grueling. I did it as described, just 10 minutes with the 24kgs. Was about 50-60% total effort and used it as a combined warmup together with active stretching before my MT workout. Felt great, however, I dislocaded my shoulder abit on the heavy bag so no its only gym and rehab for me for a while 🥲
