Armor Hunter Mellowlink - Shuepps Platoon vs Fattie Unit (Mellowlink's Past)

Near the end of the 100 year war an operation takes place where the the Shuepps platoon are forced to act as an infantry anti-armor squad to take out a Balarant Fattie unit without AT's of their own.
It is revealed they are being used as scapegoats for embezzlement of Gilgamesh military resources. The operation leaves mellowlink the only survivor.

I've said before and I'll say it again - if Mellowlink and Chirico Cuvie teamed up, they'd be a veritable force of nature. And it could have happened, since Armor Hunter Mellowlink and Armored Trooper Votoms are the same universe.

@@BeyondDaX Mellolink was specifically an AT pilot as well in a unit that went up to company level. That's largely irrelevant in the face of Chirico's literal in universe plot armor which puts him at an entirely different power level than any other entity in the setting.

Damn I love it. The infantry's design is awesome. Like some sort of guerillas, equipped with an AT Rifle, combined with goggles/visors that count or calculate the distance and accuracy to the target. And it looks like one part together. I love it. Amazing look.

Their look is half AT pilot too though. Normal infantry may not have had those goggles.

For an OVA (direct-to-video) from 1988, the animation quality is what the mid to late 90's television animes had. Not to mention the way the ATs moving kind of reminds me of the grunt Knightmare Frames from Code Geass, another Sunrise production. They're similar in size even.

In SRW you can even have them fight alongside and against each other. In 30 Kallen from Code Geass and Chirico actually get along really well along with Van from GunXSword.

The ending credits shell juggling is amazingly animated, far beyond most of its contemporaries of the time. Watching this on release cemented this as the best of the votoms series for me. I actually watched it first and was more disappointed by chirico's escapades as I felt it far less realistic to me.

If nothing else it sure gets one thing right: the higher-ups don't give a damn about casualties or 'rules of war', they'll sacrifice soldiers as long as it 'gets the job done'. Hell even the enemies felt slightly bad for them since they realised they were essentially pawns left to die.

It reminded me of Metal Robotnik from Sonic OVA. There’s a scene that looks just like this where Metal Robotnik has Sonic and Tails at gunpoint at the end of a blown-out bridge. The gun even looks the same, side-handle look and all. I think Sonic OVA copied it from this anime.

@@jeremylindsey94 not really a matter for purists, it’s just taste. There is a tad more emotions in these voices whereas on average English speaking dubbers fall flat (except brilliant exceptions like the dubbers of mark hamill’s caliber)
