Every repairman should know the dangers of just keep adding and adding oil to the keywork. If you don't properly clean the inside of those rods, dirt will fill up and act as liquid sandpaper to the metal and in the end ruin a great instrument that could last for hundreds of years! (If you do know this fact, please excuse me. But this should really be included in the video) If I'm not clear enough please watch this video: watch?v=Om88CsGd9jI. (I really want to spread the word)

Hello, my name is Alex. I'm a police officer from Brazil and I liked so much the videos about maintenance saxophone. I also would like to ask if you can make a video about: "How to replace the saxophone's springs." Thank you, so much.

I just freed up a Bb key with Break Free (CLP) which you could get from your friendly armorer.

what do you think about using dry lube that is used for bicycle chains? Also, it would really be interesting if you did a video about all the different tools you use...maybe a series...and explained them. thank you!, Kenneth G

Oil is also corrosion control, it does that partly by displacing water. A dry lube probably isn’t particularly good at that. And a well fit key probably doesn’t have the tolerance for a dry lube.

Adding new oil to the old oil is bad idea. You should have your saxophone taken apart and have the old oil cleaned out before you add anything. It's just like changing oil on your car, you need to remove the old oil before you add new oil. The dirt, dust, and debris will mix with the oil and become a type of lapping compound (liquid sand paper) which will actually damage your instrument from usage. You can tell if your instrument has been damaged because it will be very noisy from all the space that the dirt and debris has worn away over time.
