@@wevved Once one bodybuilder starts using steroids, they all join in to keep up. There were known risks to potential liver damage if used too often. If one doctor said no, a bodybuilder would simply find one who said yes. I don't recall steroids being legal unless they were prescribed to speed up the healing of an injury. Arnold rarely, if ever, talks about past steroid use when being interviewed, he'll quickly change the subject.

To be fair, there is a significant German speaking population in Northern Italy at South Tyrol (Südtirol in German, or Bolzano in Italian): the region was such a hot potato - there was even armed movement that fought the Italian government for decades (think of IRA in Italy) -until an agreement was reached where the region was given full autonomy.

Arnold is an icon, he was the only bodybuilder actor around in the 70's and 80's so he made a lot of memorable things, even in Japanese shows, anime and video games they will reference bodybuilder characters who look like Arnold with the same face features or the iconic sunglasses. He was there at the right place and the right time and that's why he's an icon.

@@zookr - I follow bodybuilding and strength training. A few guys actually died in their twenties and thirties from not only steroids, but also HGH (human growth hormones). Hearts 3x the size, swollen intestines, inflated lungs, etc. These days, it's actually a death wish to become a professional bodybuilder.

I know I'm not the first person to make this comparison, but it bears repeating: Arnold Schwarzenegger is like Madonna. Neither performer was gifted with any great natural talent, but they made their impressive careers out of sheer drive, presence, and intelligence. Admirable.

Arnold Schwarzenegger physique back then was great, but believe it or not, in the BB competition it was not perfect. Only one man in the world received a perfect score. I forgot his name tho.

Doug S What year though? He had some structural flaws compared to a few more perfect physiques. If I had a choice I think I would have Levrone's or Wheeler's build.I do think that Arnold could have still been a Mr Olympia had he been born 20 years later.

Arnold did not win any Emmy for this performance (nor any other form of award) He has won numerous Golden Globes, been nominated for the Oscar several times, and has won an Emmy in the area of Producing for a 2014 television work done by his production company.

Screaming Dean Screaming Dean, I loved your remark. I am an immigrant in the U.S. who's traveled quiet bit during my childhood. As much as I genuinely love the U.S. I can't figure out why its population is so freaking ignorant about the rest of the world while having access to all the information and education that the world has to offer. I'm not saying that all Americans are ignoring, however... These are some examples of what they've in their mind: They believe that most French women are super sexy and have an unique way of having sex. Well,... The reality is that France has all kinds of women just like any other country... And they don't have a specific and unique way of having sex... They believe the entire area of the middle east is one big desert... They wouldn't even be able to point out the countries of that region. It's extremely a difficult tast to inform them about the fact that there are many different languages and Arabic is NOT the only language. They don't know the difference between Farsi, Turkish, Arabic, Pashtoo etc... They can't absorb the idea that the Persian culture is where the civilization started. They think we ride horse and camels, while the fact of the matter is that Tehran is an extremely modern city. They think that we treat our women in a bad way, while in reality, we respect our girls and women way more than many other cultures... I would hope that they would try to learn and educate themselves about other cultures and countries instead of keeping their guards up assuming that they are hated by others. I'm not saying that I know everything about everyone, but I try to inform myself before making a judgment.

In his autobiography, Total Recall, Arnold says he had no idea this would be in front of a live audience until he walked in and heard the laughs. He was so stunned he forgot his second line until Lucille nudged him with an ad-lib line of her own.
