@@williardbillmore5713 obviously you can’t read because nowhere in his post did he say Brian played lead. Keith’s part is pretty simple too. I know both parts. TBH Brian’s rhythm is harder to play than Keith’s lead. Keith gets to play off of Brian. Brian has to stay in perfect time. Keith gets to rest in between his short solos. It’s a great tune period! Doesn’t matter how easy or hard the parts are. It’s how they all fit together.

I saw the Stones with Brian Jones twice in the mid-sixties and they were great, I found Brian to be subtle and really clever, Keith was a great Soloist in the Chuck Berry mode and very impressive. Actually a killer duo to my mind. Later I saw Keith and Mick Taylor and That was special for the relationship, Keith on chunky rhythm and Mick on the silky lead that has never been bettered in my opinion. You have to enjoy the Stones through the years, Great band. I hope they like forever.

It’s not all Brian. You can’t separate out all of Keith’s playing, it’s impossible for those days to do so. Brian played mostly rhythm guitar on the old rocker’s, boogie and the Chuck Berry riffs are always Keith’s. Brian’s stand out playing are on slide and the melodic hook of the Last Time. He did the high end melodic line on the chorus for Jumping Jack Flash but rest assured Keith’s guitar including lead solos are his and more frequently heard even in the early days.

Raymond Roberts Only according to a writer wanting to sell a book out of thousands and a few embittered people. That version of the story of the formation is only partly true but mostly misleading. People who claim that don’t have all the information and just like when propaganda uses a grain of truth it sells a big lie. If you’re willing to hear more information scroll down. I will tell you in short detail how the band formed and provide you links that are undeniable in supporting what I say. Brian “formed” the band like a guy casually asks a girl on a date. He knew Mick and Keith, was friendly with them when he would see or play with Alexis Korner Blues incorporated. Mick, and Charlie Watts played with Alexis while Brian joined in on occasion. Keith wasn’t asked to join as most of his playing style was Chuck Berry and his chops weren’t quite there….NOT yet. Meanwhile, Dick Taylor who later formed the Pretty Things and is very much responsible for forming the early stages of the Stones asked his school mate Mick Jagger if he’d like to form a band with him and practice in his mom’s garage. They had a drummer called Tony Chapman and Mick being reunited with his old friend Keith Richards asked him if he’d like to join them, feeling a bit rejected by not playing with Alexis Korner, Keith was happy to join and that’s where they started learning a bunch of rock n roll songs, much of which was Chuck Berry, Around and Around for example, Buddy Holly (a personal favorite of Jagger’s), Bo Diddley, Jimmy Reed and others. They called themselves “LITTLE BOY BLUE AND THE BLUE BOYS” and recorded their early cover songs before Brian asked them if they wanted to join a group with him that wanted to form. Brian Jones in the meantime put an ad in the paper where he met piano player Ian Stewart or “Stu”. Brian asked and in Brian’s own words, he “…was bumming around waiting for something to happen. I had been in other groups before but they weren’t successful until I met up with Mick and Keith, and then that was successful.” Here’s what Brian did do apart from being a trained musician, being more accomplished at the time on harp and guitar, playing slide as well, he got them their first gig, he turned Keith on to more blues like Robert Johnson, he taught Keith to play more blues songs. Off the cuff he named The Rolling Stones. As they didn’t have one right before their first gig, when asked the group’s name by the owner or manager of the club on the phone, Brian saw Muddy Waters’ record “Rollin’ Stone” and said “The Rolling Stones”. Brian called some shots on what songs they played but if you listen to the Little Boy Blue and the Blue boys early garage recordings the bulk of the first Stones covers came from those rehearsals at Dick Taylor’s house. To finish up how the line up was formed, Brian and Keith had formed a real tight relationship on guitars so Dick Taylor who originally formed the band sort of,.. moved to bass and later left as he wanted to play guitar. Tony Chapman wasn’t any good on drums and they knew and liked Charlie Watts from Alexis Korner Inc. so they asked if he would join, finally they put an ad out for a bass player which Bill Wyman answered. So all this exaggeration of how Brian Jones “recruited and auditioned the band one by one” is pure yellow journalism. Yes he did “form” and shape the group from what was already formed. Bill Wyman likes to belittle Mick and Keith’s influence out of bitterness. Truth is Jagger called most of the shots from the beginning. If he didn’t want to sing a song or for that matter couldn’t as he himself has said well they didn’t learn it. If you’re truly a Stones fan you might enjoy these links below. BBC documentary on Dick Taylor kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y61hqMSUnZzcl4E.html Little boy blue and the blue boys basement tapes pre Stones and pre Brian Jones.
