Thanks for a great video. I visited Arranmore twice in the late 1960's and it was a magical place. We stayed at the An Oige youth hostel. The ferry over was on an open boat about 30 feet long. which carried passengers for half a crown each and all the supplies for the island, including the pubs, which were open till dawn when the mainland pubs shut at 10 p.m. One of the pubs was the Celtic Bar which was owned, I believe, by a Glasgow man. The ferry cargoes included the occasional car. They were loaded from the ramp in the most precarious manner and carried, at the owner's risk, lashed on to two planks lashed thwartships across the ferry! I asked the boatman what they would do if it came on to blow. He held up a sharp hatchet. "Two chops and over it goes!". I asked if he had ever had to do it.. "Many times" was the reply. Hard to imagine today when health and safety have murdered excitement..

I was in Donegal for ten days in late August...and got maybe one day with weather like this ! Still, I managed to climb a few mountains in between the deluges, so no complaints. Stunning views you had there, and definitely a worthwhile detour on my next trip to fabulous Donegal. Thanks guys, and good luck with the next batch of trails.

Many families from Arranmore ended up on Beaver Island, Michigan USA. In the middle of Lake Michigan. Did you happen to see the monument?

I see alot of roofless houses, barns. Are they for sell? As is? If I settled here I would want to own, rather than r e n y. Lovely views.
