Gosh, it's good to see you both again. I have been following you all year and love your vlogs, particularly those with Poppy and Jenny. I do not understand the technical ones and we are not motorhome owners. However we have relocated several for a well known company here in W Australia. Sydney to Perth, Adelaide to Darwin and points in-between. I wish you both a very happy Christmas. ( from a happily transplanted Devonian)

Prices for both services seem pretty competitive. We too, have both services done, when applicable, at the dealership where we purchased the Motorhome. The bonus being too, its nice & local (20 miles). That in itself, was one of the best decisions we ever made. Especially when you have niggling issues & the vehicle has to be returned. So convenient. Some great informative videos from you this year. Well done. Merry Xmas & a Happy New Year!!

Hi Bob did you cope with driving a manual again after getting so used to the automatic?
@BobEarnshawMoHo2 жыл бұрын
It's second nature, didn't even think about it, the auto box in my brain took over!
@stewarttaylor42432 жыл бұрын
Hi Bob, we have the same antenna and also found if you stick to the side of the van the speeds to be very poor, but when I mounted it on the roof the performance was dramatically better (van is blocking the signal). I am afraid when the weather warms up (warmer weather required for the adhesive ) you need to drill a hole and mount it on the roof, fixed mine to the side of the solar panel. Happy Christmas 🎄
@BobEarnshawMoHo2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I really don't want to be drilling holes in my roof!
@stephenbow15582 жыл бұрын
Ideally the cables from your Poynting aerial to the Mifi should be 'low loss' in nature. Without that if the cables are long enough you can lose the benefit of the aerial as the signal travels down the cable.
@gary59492 жыл бұрын
Hi Bob, don't you need to get the van serviced with a Fiat dealer to maintain your warranty.
@BobEarnshawMoHo2 жыл бұрын
No, any competent dealer. Under the European Block Exemption legislation, car manufacturers cannot invalidate your warranty if you take it to a non-franchised dealership. However, you must ensure that the repair centre uses genuine parts and that they make a note of the work they’ve done, the changes they’ve made and even the type and grade of oil they’ve put in the car. This will protect you in case the vehicle manufacturer says that the service was not up to standard or the incorrect parts and substances were used.
@gary59492 жыл бұрын
@@BobEarnshawMoHo Thanks for that, Bob. I might try One Call intead of my Peugeot dealer.

Hi Bob, do you have the Omni directional version of the Poynting aerial or the directional one. The omni one is better for mobile usage as the directional one has to be pointed exactly at the mast with clear line of sight. And I assume you are using a signal finder app to locate the best direction to point it. I was staying at the Ashwell site a couple of months ago and used my Poynting aerial to get mobile Wi-Fi coverage with over 30Mb/s download and over 10Mb/s upload speeds. But I did need to change the direction from initially pointing it N/W (the direction the site manager has his set) to S/W. Although it works well for improving the download speeds for internet browsing the main difference I find is the upload speed improvements - which often makes it possible to have video conference calls that would otherwise not be possible without it. I’m curious where you route the cables into your van though. We were in a caravan and I put it under a front window. But in our new motorhome I don’t like the idea of doing that through a side window. Keep up the good work and have a Merry Xmas.
@BobEarnshawMoHo2 жыл бұрын
I obviously need to do a bit more experiments with it. The box blurb calls it dual polarised. What signal finder app are you using? I tried it on the outside if the motorhome with cables going through the side window and inside on the driver's door.
@martinhann95112 жыл бұрын
Hi Bob, it sounds like you had the aerial pointing in the wrong direction knowing the site and which way you had the van facing. If you had put it on the passenger door pointing towards the office that’s roughly where it should’ve been aimed. I also assume you meant it was on the outside of the drivers door point outwards. As you won’t get a signal through glass or any sort of metal etc I now see from the description that you do have an Omni directional one but even so you do need to point it at the mast with the strongest signal. I use the Opensignal app to find the right direction to point it and sometimes have to move it when another one gets stronger.
@martinhann95112 жыл бұрын
If you have chance to exchange it and don’t mind paying a little bit more I’d also swap it for the 5G model which has improved innards to make it more effective on 4G as well as well as making it future proofed for when 5G is fully rolled out and the routers come down to a reasonable price.
@martinhann95112 жыл бұрын
A final thought. Having now followed the link you gave in the description, I noticed the Router you are using is a very good quality 4G router with external connectors. So in case you saw my previous comments before editing them, I don’t think that will be where the problem lies.
@BobEarnshawMoHo2 жыл бұрын
@@martinhann9511 thanks for the information, I will be doing a video on it when I have been to some more sites with it. Didn't really think it was that directional. I'll try the app too.

Hi Bob, just watched you connecting the car to the motorhome.. Do you leave the keys in the car ignition and do you lock the car doors when towing? Just thinking about car security. We may want to tow a car at some point in the future. Hope you both have a great Christmas.

Yes I use a spare key to lock the doors normally when travelling and stopping in service stations.

Hi Bob - I've used the Poynting antenna for the first time this year with a TP-link 4 g router - I found it disappointing even with an antenna pole putting it high above the caravan - I found the speed in the small MiFi device was better than the 4 g router with the antenna - be good if you can do a further review and if you can find a way to make it work thanks

Hi Bob had caravans for 25 years mostly swift 1st motorhome had a week do you know if the front reading lights on the bendy swivel run of leisure battery or van battery as when I switch control panel off they stay on cheers mike..
@BobEarnshawMoHo2 жыл бұрын
Never really thought about it, but they go off if I switch the panel off on mine, but you can switch them on with the panel off. So they must be wired to use whichever battery is available.
