My first United away day, bunked off school with 2 mates and went to London.....what a night and a greatest of memories, was only 14!!!

I was 12 years old. Went with my Dad. Moved down to London when I was 5 years old and we went to all the games in London, as well as all the home games and some of the other aways back then. Luckily it was a lot easier to go to games then. Not that I'm that bothered nowadays.

Blackmore was a hugely under-rated full-back. This was his finest year and he should have got our fans' player of the year but he finished second to Hughes, who had a poor start to the season. Blackmore played at left back the whole season and was brilliant; saved an equaliser on the line in Rotterdam that brought the ECWC back to OT too! Quality player was 'Sunbed'

I did a sicky from my job at BT payphones in Manchester so I could get the supporters bus down to this. A mouthful of smarties to pretend I had toothache and I was away. What a great decision! I had a mate who was a Gooner from when I worked on nuclear submarines and I sent him a postcard from the souvenir shop of each scorer, describing each goal. I sent him each one seperately and he couldn't get his hat on when all these Lee Sharpe et al postcards kept coming down to the boats offices.

i was too, had to turn it off at 2-3, it was too much to bear. Then snuck it back on 30 mins later expecting an Arse comeback, and we were 6-2 up! Atkinson never did this, it took Fergie to take us there.

@@meisterlymanu5214 at the time I studying for my A Levels, or at least I was trying to study for my A Levels. This was Lee Sharpe's best season. He and Kanchelksis ( for different reasons ) should have had longer careers. How I miss the 90's, the brutal winters, baggy clothing, the internet and mobile phones were new technology and we were winning and winning and winning and we just seemed to be getting stronger with more and great young players coming through. We were even in the market for Athe likes of a young Ronaldo/Baggio/Salas/Batistuta

I was there ,went down on the coach with the Oldham reds.Great night,remember losing one of my doc marten shoes whilst celebrating!loved the old Highbury ground,great atmosphere,nice and tight pitch close to the fans.This was when teams played to win the league cup!Memories!feel sorry for the fans of today with this sanitised rubbish we see today,no atmosphere,everyone sat there keeping quiet,no singing etc

Because of the sanctions on Iraq, I was only able to follow my favorite great team Manchester United by the newspapers. I was 15 year old then..the following years, Manchester United started a new era of glory!

It was unfortunate that a few of the players we bought just before that season, like Webb and Wallace, had their careers at Old Trafford blighted by injury problems. Especially Webb. I think he would have been a much better and more important player for us if he didn't get that terrible injury playing for England, not long after joining United.

One of my all time favourite United performances growing up, especially with an Arsenal fan best mate. Fantastic night for Lee Sharpe, though it wasn’t long before a certain Ryan Giggs starting breaking into the team properly and sort of stole Lee’s thunder a bit ✌️

I loved doing the united mid week away games in the league cup, this game was one of them , hull city , port vale, Rotherham, Halifax,leeds,, and it winds me up listening to Ralf who wants the premier League teams to ditch it , bring back replays and second replays I say ,this competition was a big income for the lower league clubs,

Was there that night with my mate Mick Pennell from Tetney.He went in the Arse end while I stood on the clock end with thousands of other REDS as we tore the southern soft shite apart.Lee Sharpe was on fire and we could have scored 10 we were that good.Poor old Micky after the game as l held him aloft to expose his Arse shirt surrounded by UTD fans who just laughed at him.Great times and great mates.

Some how got tickets in the Arsenal end with a few mates. We'd planned to be fairly reserved if we scored, but the nature of the game was such that you forgot where you were! To be fair the Arsenal fans took it fairly well. I think they were more stunned than anything, I don't think anyone had beaten them for ages and certainly letting a goal in was a rarity in those days.

Seems strange now but they had a pretty good team at the time, Chris Woods, Chris Waddle, Mark Bright, John Sheridan, Carlton Palmer. They were also in the FA cup final and League Cup finals in 1993. Clubs like Wednesday and Nottingham Forest and even Norwich could challenge for honours fairly regularly in those days.

Like most United fans im ambivalent towards Arsenal. I see them as England's second club, but dont see them as direct rivals to us because they are still so far behind in terms of everything really. Hope both they and Chelsea win if they are representing England in European finals. Although their fans are quiet we dont have a beef with them like we do with Liverpool. Its Liverpool fan's arrogance which sets them apart although respect to the fella Josh for his comments below !

Ted Wilson Well, football clubs are usually measured by success at home and abroad, attendances, revenue, history, and quality and size of stadia and Arsenal are some way behind United in every category. The only single area that I can think of where Arsenal is ahead of United is FA cup wins and that's only by 1. As a gooner it may upset you that we don't regard you as our biggest rivals but sorry, that's just the way it is ! Currently you are the FA Cup winners but miles behind Chelsea in terms of winning Savvy. I know United are miles away from where we should be, but I accept it. I don't start arguing about it. It's a fact. We need many more good players to compete where we need to be. ie-Top European level. Arsenal proved exactly where they are @ European level this season against Monaco. Atm teams like Bayern, Chelsea, Barca, Madrid, and possibly even PSG are well ahead of United and Arsenal. Don't let it fester and make you angry, Just face it Ted !!!

For me you forget one very important factor and that is entertaining football. United under ferguson and chelsea with jose don't care about the type of football they play as long as they win games and trophies. On top of that several clubs has sugar-daddies enabling them to buy trophies. What kind of achievement is that. I'm not an Arsenal fan and I do not get upset by what you say her. My fascination for English football has long gone. The beautiful has been ruined by money.

Ted Wilson Clearly I am mistaken Ted. I originally thought you were a football man. However with your comments regarding Ferguson not caring about the type of football he plays, I now realise that you can't possibly follow football in England too closely. The first remit of any manager @ OT is the style of football produced. After many years of drudgery football style wise in England, from the mid seventies until 1990, Fergusons brand of football going back to wingers and giving youth a chance was a joy to behold and brought crowds back to football up and down the country. From 1975-1990 English fans had had to get used to Liverpool's we will score one then pass the ball back to the goalkeeper till the final whistle, crowds had dwindled, and fans started fighting partly because of the boredom. George Graham's Arsenal were no better. But suddenly with players like Sharpe, Olsen, Giggs, Khanchelskis, Cantona, Scholes, Beckham, Ronaldo etc football became a delight to watch again. Your point regarding sugar daddies and money in the game though I completely agree with. I'd much rather you had to make do with the money you generate yourself rather than rich sugar daddies providing it. The atmosphere has gone also. One trip to the Emirates will convince you of that Ted !

envious of you ??? you silly mong, prior to 1993 you hadn't won the league for 27 year's, that was your 8th league title, we had 10 league title's at the time, old trafford was a shit hole when you had an all terrace of 35,000, sometime's you were even lucky to get 27,000 at home matche's, highbury in the late 60's to late 80's was always packed, sometime's you had crowd's of up to 57,000 coming into the ground, it's only when we became an all seater, it had to be reduced to fa health and safety regulation's to 38,000, so i suggest you shut up, at least we have a firm you silly dickhead, and we're the richest club in britain, you guy's are only bigger than us in term's of fan base, you're not even rich, you're in pile's of debt, owned by a bank, and most of your success came from sir alex, so don't think you can speak down to us like we're some small football club like leyton orient, accrington stanley or stoke city.

The 1990-92 away kit. A thing of beauty. I still have my original replica of it and it is one of my most cherished football shirts.
