Given Liverpool's defeat at Nottingham Forest earlier in the day, Arsenal kicked off this game knowing that they were already champions. So, it was a night of celebration at Highbury and Alan Smith, in particular, enjoyed the party. Despite all that, the Gunners may still have been out for revenge, for they had lost 6-2 in their last meeting with United. Brian Moore and Gary Lineker watched the action.

I was there at the Clock End, jammed packed, what a night. My fave footballing experience. Back when footy still had a soul. Still got the ticket, £7.50, yes, £7.50, purchased from the box office 2 days before the game!! Monday nights do not get any better, in fact I'm not sure life does...!!

It reminds me of Irelands stadium. 5 Euro to stand up behind the goal and watch. Then they made Aviva Stadium, an all seater and suddenly the price is 50 euros. I havent been to a match since the old stadium got bulldozed.

Great team 90/91 ,very underrated . Although George Graham went on to win 3 more trophies with us this team never went onto win another league title. All be it a few were still there in 1998 when we won the league again. I will always have a soft spot for the class of 91.

Alan Smith was so clinical when he played for the Gunners and no wonder he won the Golden Boots twice when we won the league titles in 88/89 and 90/91.

And that pass from Kevin Campbell for Smudger's second. That was the year he got into the team, scoring 8 from 10, forcing Merse out wide with no Rocky. The end of next year, when Wright replaced Smudger, had possibly my favourite ever front 4. Ok, Titi, Bergy, BobbyP and Freddie. But that earlier one was heaven, too.

I'm a Liverpool fan, but I've always enjoyed the rivalry between these 2 clubs. It's not as nasty as Man Utd's rivalries with Leeds and Liverpool. Occasionally it gets out of hand with some fights on the pitch but it stays on the pitch, it never goes into non-sporting conflict.

I'd forgotten how good Lee Dixon was that season. That was the year he broke into the England side, if memory serves. But this game shows his ability in attack and defence. And in the middle of the park, too, linking the play. Amazing player. We've had some great RBs since I started watching with Pat Rice, but Lee was the best, I reckon. Comfortably.

This may sound like an odd comment but in the late 80's and early 90's you could tell the stadium immediately by seeing the goal posts / net / framework. Highbury had such recognisable goals....

Look how Merson took that throw at the start. He basically turned and threw it knowing instinctively where Lee Dixon would be. Nowadays they stand there for 3 minutes looking for movement

Alan Smith was such an underrated player outside of the club. Scored so many. Mind you, Steve Bruce scored loads that season for a CB, even if half were pen's.

It wasn't too bad - this defeat, then losses in 1995, 1997 and 1998, but wins in 1992, 1997 and 1999. Plus the League Cup win in 1990.

Ok, now THIS is something that I just never will understand-Smith scores, camera shows only Dixon celebrating. Now, if it had been just some dull, cheap kinda goal, ok. But it was actually a pretty good goal! And why do you then just show the man who created the assist? Bloody stupid!

Penalties are given for a lot less now days! Players are taught and practice kicking the ball onto opposing players arms!! Just watch Rashford Man Utd.

No Seaman, as Lukic was keeper at Anfield, No Limpar as he wasn’t signed till 91 season, , Davis was injured so Richardson played at Anfield and Campbell watched from the Anfield Road stand with us lucky to be there. Probably 7, I’d say.

The trophy was awarded at the following game at home v Coventry. we won 6-1 and were rampant. I was in the old north bank that day. beautiful.
