This is what I don't like about fans .. what if Pepe scored .. bla bla . Did you even watch the entire game?. Salah , Firmino and Mane missed loads of chances . I could play the what if game too . Liverpool completely dominated Arsenal and pinned them down in their own half for long periods .. Liverpool even take their foot off the gas once they are already 3-0 and subbed off Mane and Firmino . If that's not completely outclassed , i don't know what is. Conclusion is that 3-1 flattered Arsenal when clearly it could ended up 8-2 on a good clinical day.

Guys, can you let me know: Did I explain the part about the middle block clear enough? Cause I'm not sure how familair most viewers are with that type of concept.

Interesting how Emery switched from 4-3-3 to the diamond to combat Liverpool whereas their rivals Pochettino switched from diamond to 4-3-3 in the CL final...both did not work. Qn: Why not play their strongest formation/teams instead?

What I learned from this match is that if you play a diamond midfield, the attacking players in front of the diamond must be willing and able to do defensive work when you don't have the ball. Otherwise, your opponent has the freedom of the wings and can switch play almost at will.

To highlight few points: 1. Anfield used to be very difficult ground to win at. Now it has become almost impossible to win because they have outstanding team and can press very high very effectively. That's why, unless you have very talented midfield that can easily get out of this high press (great short passing, dribbling out of tight, congested situations), you will be annihilated as Liverpool easily retrieve the ball and attack again. It almost becomes continuous cycle. 2. Unai deployed two quick forwards in order to play quick and long passes to bypass Liverpool's high press. This worked to very good level in the first half. Unai also had to play compact and very defensive as in previous season we got destroyed by being too offensive (5-1). Compact and defensive tactics require extremely concentrated and error-free defensive players, but Arsenal has Papa and Luiz. Papa was at fault completely in the first goal and the other two were Luiz. With better defenders, Unai would have for sure got something out of this game. 3. Unai made a huge error with the formation but not with the tactic. Instead of going with 4312 (diamond 41212), he should have gone with 5122 (or 532). The wingbacks would have defended well against Liverpool's fullbacks. Liverpool's strength is down the flanks but Unai almost gave up on that and completely relied on defense soaking up pressure.

I agree that Arsenal were not completely outclassed tactically. TAA and Robbo are super-attacking, so leaving Pepe and Aubz up front, while defending with a big block of eight, and then hoofing the ball upfield upon repossession makes clear sense. Obviously the thing is you need to get the ball back, you need to aim the hoof correctly, and Pepe/Aubz need to combine effectively upon receipt - and those aren't three easy things to get right in sequence. But it nearly worked, Arsenal had a couple of great chances early on, while Liverpool got slightly fortunate with a goal from a corner, those aren't very common these days. Arsenal score one or two of those chances and the game probably develops very differently.

Do you know Liverpool now has better game management? That is when the score is comfortable for them i.e. 3-0 they will control the tempo of the game. So at 3-1 does flattered Arsenal in a sense they did not get battered hard.

As an arsenal fan I think emerys tactics didn't go wrong its just that the capability of his players are not as good as Liverpools players once we have our full squad including bellerin, Tierney, holding, ozil in the attacking role we will be a much better team, though I think we played alright against a much better team than us and we are showing signs of improvement, I personally didn't like the formation that emery used and he gambled having two strikers but we got to some opportunities ourselves and we just didn't score any of them, London derby next week, the performance at home should be much better

I think that emery knew from the beginning that he couldn’t do shit about liverpools fullbacks so he was pretty smart with his tactic, the only issue was ceballos. He’s not used to this kind of play style, at least not yet. I wanna mention that I saw only the first 35 min.

Xhaka and Guendouzi as a midfield is just far too slow (mentally), playing against Liverpool the game just passes them by

Liverpool always played high crosses - nothing new, how do you think the full backs bagged so many assists last season ? Them not being able to capitalize on all those crosses was because of good defending, not necessarily because they were poor.

Emery s tactics where just poor. Liverpool in the last third played awfull otherwise they would destroy them completely

Arsenal can defeat Liverpool in this match. They got several good opportunities. While Liverpool only get the goals from set piece and Luiz's errors.

You say Arsenal were better tactically and Liverpool were better technically, does this mean Arsenal have to work more on the their techniques? Will this take time ? As for tactics they change so no need to work on them players have to adjust.

Outclassed? :) the only reason Liverpool won is because liverpool exploited the mistakes of Arsenal defense more efficiently than Arsenal were supposed to exploit Liverpool mistakes,Auba had perfect first chance of the match to open the score when Liverpool made big mistake at the back,but he missed wide open goal,and Pepe had 2 excellent chances that he didn’t score,and lets not forget that Liverpool played at home ground.Arsenal are way more dangerous team when they play on the Emirates,i think it will be a completely different story when they meet at the Emirates Stadium,and lets not forget that Arsenal played without Bellerin and Tierney ,their 1st option RB and LB...Anyway Congrats on the victory at Anfield ,and lets be real on the subject that Liverpool did not Outclassed Arsenal in any way whatsoever. . .btw the tactics of the both teams were masterclass...

You guys just can't beat us no matter what. Liverpool is just a better team PERIOD. Don't remember the last time arsenal destroyed liverpool. just accept it.

Maybe Emery is not great manager, but he is good one ! Just most of Arsenal players are not good at emery's tactic... Especially midfielders. Remember how good Ozil was under Arsene.
