Great show. RE: The VAR vote. Under no circumstance should we get rid of it. Make it better. Thats it. VAR has corrected TONS of howlers. I dont want to go back to the pre-VAR times. Teams have been relegated because of obvious missed calls.

I see Var as Just another Reason why Man city have dominated this league. Ultimately the winning is all that matters. City Have never been in a negative with Var decisions to the point where we as fans EXPECT Var and the refs to swing in cities direction. is it a coincidence? perhaps ppl will use that excuse as copium. But the reality is that refs and Var operators are literally on payroll with cities owners. I guess the underlying problem is that Citeh are dirty cheats & Var has become an extention of this.

I get why some folks hate what VAR has done to the vibes of the game, and the game is a lot about vibes, but Clive nailed it for me. It has been implemented without any regard, apparently, to how best to take advantage of it and how to mitigate its predictable problems. However, the elephant in the room is the level of incompetence in the referees in the league with the most money in the world. It beggars belief that we still seem unwilling to focus on this rather than all the symptoms their incompetence create - we should not accept that this will always be how it is - sorry Tim :)

When fans say nothing wrong with VAR its the people. They arent just talking about the people, they are talking about the process and its implementation. Things about transparency, consistency and equipment like more cameras is all on the people running it. We dont just want to keep the same process and swap the people.

I disgaree Tim, there are better options for people who would be better at VAR than retired Refs. First of all, anyone with a sound understanding of the technology would instantly be better than these refs. They clearly dont understand how to proeperly implement the technology and thats the biggest issue by a mile. Secondly, there are people who have strong technical affinity AND an extensive knowledge of the rules of football. A former technical analyst would immediately come to mind. Perhaps a younger more tech savvy crop of upcoming refs. To summarize, the refs arent the ONLY issue , but they are a huge issue that we can fix with some innovation. Thanks! COYG !!!

Anyone not mates with the ref on the pitch would be a good start. An ex ref came out and said he didn't make a decision to protect his mates feelings.

Re: VAR i think Tim is being a bit patronising - When people are saying VAR is not the problem but rather the personnel - the point they’re making is the implementation needs tweaking rather than the entire thing being scrapped. It’s not because they think it’s run by robots/AI.

I kind of agree. I mean, Tim's opinion is garbage, there are other competitions that have gotten VAR right. It works and there is far less contention. That is why they say it's the officials not technology. Then for him to say, "there is nobody who can come in a make it better..." Well, all the other referee bodies that get it right could... The refs are too close to the guy on the pitch, too worried about pulling him up for a mistake. Put someone in there to make football decisions who doesn't have a relationship with the refs and you would see a better outcome in my opinion.

There are problems with VAR, but instead of throwing it in the bin, we should learn how to make it better. I watch alot of NFL and their instant replay system works very well. Its not perfect, but when something goes wrong they try to fix it. That sport doesn't have weekly controversies like we get in the Premier League. I understand what some fans say about the experience in the stadium. But before VAR was brought in it was so frustrating watching on TV, seeing dozens of replays at home, knowing a decision was wrong, but nobody could do anything about it. Plus there's an easy thing they can do which could help this problem - mic up the referees so they can talk to the crowd before and after the check so that everybody knows what is going on - like in the NFL. The other big thing that I think needs to be changed is how the officials themselves think about the technology. The purpose of VAR isn't to critisise the ref for getting something wrong. Its to give them more information to help them. Sometimes it feels like the VAR official doesn't want to hurt the ref's ego by suggesting they made a mistake. But they're only Human, they can only see something once. Maybe there were bodies in the way. Maybe they're just not sure. It shouldn't be a problem to accept help. Also, my job is in accounts. Getting rid of VAR would be like getting rid of our accounts software (which does have problems btw) and going back to hand writing in paper ledgers.

We all miscalculated here. We assumed that the most spursy thing of all time would be them taking points off of City and helping us to win the title, but it blinded us to the even more spursy scenario that was hiding just behind it. If, by some miracle, we do end up as champions on Sunday then it must surely cement spursy's status as a universal constant? There can be no more doubt.

Yes and Villa lose to Palace and a win over City would have given them 4th 😂. My dream is we are shitvand getva deflection in 95th. City are fantastic and hit woodwork 8 times and keeper jas a blinder. Var doesn't intervene to send off West Ham player for horrific challenge or give 2 clear pens. 0-0 and we win league by a goal on gd 🙏

Re your point regarding Ange's "inside and outside" comment, Sophie from Highbury Squad had James Green from Sky on a pod this week, he said he had been told that actual employees of the club openly wanted the team to lose, so my guess is that Ange is alluding to that, ie employees as being the "inside" element he refers to

The rules of the game were written over 150 years ago, they were relatively simple and purposely ambiguous, the game evolved into the fluid flowing one we know today which differs from the stop/start nature of others, technology divides everything into a mathematical true/false and so is incompatible with it. For example the offside rule is intended to stop teams gaining an unfair advantage and since it's impossible for a human to see the exact instant the ball was played (usually from many meters away) to the exact position of an attacker it was left _in the opinion of the referee,_ so either rewrite the rules and create a new game or get rid of it.

VAR implementation should be about a team of officials and the referee being in charge and having the opportunity to have access to as much information and assistance necessary to make the best decision as effectively as possible, nothing going without being dealt with and retrospective action should be possible no matter what decision was made on the pitch during the game. The current clear and obvious implementation is not conducive to that. Neither is the review a red but not a second yellow. Yes you don't want to hamper the flow of the game so efficiency is key but not at the detriment of nurturing better behaviour by the players and officials. Penalise unwanted behaviour for a higher standard of professional play and spectacle. The audience should know what is going on and therefore how and why a decision has been reached. So they are brought along with the interpretation and application of the rules and regulations.

Tim really has no clue about what's wrong with VAR. Someone needs to ask him how we never see anywhere near as much controversy in other competitions and watch his brain explode..
