Thousands of years before modern scientific discoveries led to the big bang theory, how could the rishis, the sages of ancient India, possibly know that the universe had a beginning? Do their mystical insights agree with the findings of cutting-edge astrophysics?

Why Did God Create the World in the First Place? WRONG!! The Beginningless CYCLE of Creation • Why Did God Create the...
Until the 20th century, scientists thought that the universe is static, beginningless and endless. But, when astronomers finally learned how to measure the distance and speed of far off galaxies, they discovered that the universe is constantly expanding. Based on its rate of expansion, they calculated that the universe began about 14 billion years ago, starting the big bang, before which all the matter and energy of the universe was confined to an infinitely small point of infinite density - a singularity.
The rishis of ancient India understood the universe very differently. Their spiritual wisdom is found in the Upanishads, Sanskrit scriptures on which the nondual teachings of Advaita Vedanta are based. In the Chandogya Upanishad, the great rishi Uddalaka already understood that the universe has a beginning. He thought that the universe goes through cycles of creation and dissolution, cycles in which the universe alternates between states of being manifest and unmanifest.
Hindu scriptures say that, before the universe existed, God (Ishwara) alone existed. Nothing else. According to logic, something cannot come from nothing. That's why most philosophers reject the Christian doctrine of creatio ex nihilo, creation from nothing. This logical problem doesn't arise in a cyclic universe because each cycle is the result of the preceding cycle, so something comes from something.
But, if the universe has always been alternating between the states of manifestation and dissolution, in cycle after cycle, then what is God's role in creating the universe? According to Advaita Vedanta, God or Ishvara is an all-powerful intelligent being who causes the unmanifest universe to become manifest in cycle after cycle. It is Ishvara who keeps the wheel of time spinning.
Science holds that the universe is self-existent, as the philosophy of materialism asserts. The ancient rishis held that the universe exists because of an underlying substratum, the fabric of existence they called brahman. Brahman is satyam (pure existence), jnanam (consciousness), and anantam (limitless).
Science holds that the universe is made of matter and energy, whereas the ancient rishis said the universe is composed of three gunas or properties, sattva, rajas and tamas. When these gunas are intermixed or undifferentiated, the universe remains unmanifest. But when the gunas become differentiated, the universe becomes manifest. From the gunas come five subtle elements (sukshma bhutas), and from those elements come five physical elements (sthula bhutas).

E=MCC implies that the unmanifest universe can simply be considered to be purely Energy aka Spirit and then by the E=MCC equivalence the unmanifest spirit/energy universe gradually transforms itself aka manifests itself into matter! Simple! Matter aka manifest and unmanifest aka spirit aka energy are simply equivalent forms of the same reality! As the book "I am that" says " I am that, you are that, all of this is that, and that is all that there is!

I was meditating and when i came out of it. I came to the realization the interconnectedness of all things in the universe by comparing it to a vast organism. In this analogy, the universe functions akin to a living being, with Earth representing a tiny yet integral cell within its grand body. Just as cells work together to sustain the health of a body, humanity plays a role in maintaining the equilibrium of the universe. This perspective highlights the interdependence of all life forms and emphasizes our responsibility in nurturing the harmony of the cosmic order. It's a captivating way to contemplate our existence within the vastness of the cosmos and our interconnectedness with something greater than ourselves. In this metaphorical framework, the concept of cancer could be likened to destructive forces such as Hitler and wars, which threaten to disrupt the harmony of the cosmic order. Just as cancerous cells endanger the health of an organism, these destructive forces jeopardize the balance and well-being of the universe. Humanity's struggle against such destructive forces mirrors the body's immune response to combat cancer, working diligently to prevent them from overpowering and harming the larger whole. It underscores our collective effort to preserve the integrity and vitality of the cosmic order, ensuring that harmony prevails over discord.

@@RootofEcstasy First of all your assumption that my mind is not expanded enough to understand this irrationality, is wrong. Secondly It appears you have limited understanding of logic and reasoning which is a huge aspect of our mind if I use your words. @@RootofEcstasy Human minds indeed have limitations, but often what we perceive as our limits are boundaries we set ourselves, sometimes out of fear of the unfamiliar. The prospect of change can be intimidating, as it challenges our current beliefs and may dramatically alter our way of life. Therefore, while rationality and logic have their boundaries, it's also true that our perceived limits are often shaped by an instinctive reluctance to step into the unknown and embrace change that could ultimately lead to growth and improvement.

Swamiji, my prostrations at ur feet. I confess that the more I grasp advait Vedanta, the more I become confidant of the reality and falsity of the world. I can not express that how advait is so much powerful, convincing and logical that I get my all answers even which can not be explained in the words or sentences. whatever comes in my mind as a question, I already have an answer logically. Its now so obvious to me the reality explained by the advait. My mind gives me thousands of the thoughts./questions daily regarding the reality and everytime I find myself answering the same smoothly and flawlessly. I have reached to a level, intellectually, that not even a single question is left unanswered by me intellectually. I m very grateful to the swamijis like u who have helped me to understand and tread higher along the path of spirituality. Being a hardcore from scientific background, I have become a hardcore science hater and sometimes laugh as if they r wasting their time and energy in finding the reality they think is true instead of readily available reality available everywhere and in us only eye of perception need to be changed. Great video. Everything and nothing are synonyms, if you think about it, as something that is everything has no separation to distinguish individual or separate "things". (no-thing). Brahman is everything (saguna) and also nothing (or emptiness) (nirguna). I used to feel (from strictly a jiva perspective) that maya was a negative aspect. Now I realize it is all I/we have (Atman) and actually ARE (saguna Brahman). The last statement you make in the video is a big one that as yet I do not understand. I can imagine finding Moksha when I drop this body, but it seems likely that as long as I have a body with needs and desires, I am bound (in a way) to maya. I can imagine intellectually the presence of Moksha while in a body (on a soul level) but not on an egoic (jiva) level, as to give up my jiva nature is to give up this body awareness. Atman with Maya is Brahman, (saguna, everything) yes, but Atman without Maya is strictly Brahman (nirguna, nothing) as well. This surely must be the greatest paradox. A knife (our individuated "mayanic" awareness) cannot cut itself. The Moksha we are looking for is what is looking. I think perhaps the best I can hope for is to keep on looking until the body drops away. Voila!!! There is Moksha. Thank you. Gratitude unfolding for your talks. It would be so cool if we could visit in person, but we are a long distance apart.

So, if I’ve understood correctly, the crux of the teaching is that God created us in Himself, albeit with ignorance in order to experience what is essentially ourselves, and slowly but surely ply along the journey to knowing Him. And because we are already in & of Him, the way to know Him, is to essentially know ourselves. Look progressively beyond the nāma-rupa using the conceptions such as pañcha-kosha, and we will behold Him, because, essentially, that is literally what we are. Something like this?

Rudra is the name of the first god, and it means "the roar". In the yogic creation story, Rudra is the first form of Shi-va, which is singular and undifferentiated. Rudra's mouth produces galaxies, planets, stars, moons, celestial realms, and nether worlds. The first form of Rudra then reverberates, creating an explosion of sound and light, which galvanizes these realms into life. This is the birth of plurality, and the vibrancy of physical creation begins The first and only God who existed in Indian culture was Rudra. Rudra literally means one who roars - a Roarer. They called him Rudra because at the beginning of creation it is a roar. The scientists call it a bang.

Another Swami explains this by giving an example: Imagine the father takes the son to the movie theater for the first time. And by the time they go in, the movie has already started. That's in fact the key here - movie has already started. Now the father wants to show the son where the screen is. He points to the movie and says that is the screen. But son is confused. Is the fire that he sees is the screen? Is it now the mountain? Or the rivers? Or the people? No no, says the father. Behind all that is the screen. But the son can't see it! All that he sees are the things projected on the screen. That's the same problem we face. Our movie of life has already started by the time we come in. And our Gurus say, look there is Brahman everywhere, but we cannot see it... All that we see is the world and people. Not the Brahman behind everything. Thus we are born with ignorance - with the veil of Maya. It takes perseverance to "see" the true nature of oneself and of everything else. Best wishes

Very reasonable presentation. Bedas developed during Indus Valley civilization is called Braahminism - a culture to know the absolute person or Brahmana (individual consciousness of a personality) in a body by purifying mind and body through rituals. This is very clearly explained in one Book Vagabat Getaa (VG), while transcending the Beda rituals for salvation of the Brahmana to the knowledge of Param Brahma (The sea of Brahmana), the source of the universe manifestations including Brahmana consciousness. But unfortunately there is no unbiased interpretation of the VG. The science of VG is the complete universal science. VG says, there are *two* *natures* after each periodic annihilation and manifestation of the universe - one is lower *material nature* (which physical science deals with), like a material body and another *Higher Intelligent Conscious Nature* which is the Purusham / Brahmana in a body. And both these two Natures manifest from One - The *Divine* *Parama* *Brahma* (with the volume effect of a field of Purusham particles) - A neutral entity from which all matter, moving or static, animate or inanimate and its functionality and properties develop. The higher intelligent field of conscious Nature and its concious particles Purusam are eternal as that of Parama Brahma. Material world manifest from the Higher Intelligent field and evolve according to cause and effect, and purusham takes physical body during shaping of an embryo to enjoy and suffer the material nature. The entire universe is just a fractionional manifestation of The Divine Brahma. And everything *recycles*. One note: *spirituality* and *religion* should *not* be cofused. Spiritually is universal. And religion is man made mixture of Spirituality and culture imposed on human in baptism, to reduce selfishness and to be considerate to others and social Justice. One may ask, what is the use of this periodic annihilating and manifestation, if finally it is all Zero. This is *past time* of The Divine Brahma:- Creates the material world, and let loose the purusham particles / Brahmana in the material field with some autonomy, to see who can come Home (to Him) quick by overcoming the material enjoyment of the matter (*liberation* from matter). It takes *millions of birth* from initial form to higher humanity to liberate. Every human birth is an *opportunity* to advance to that goal. Additional clarification:- The universe is a Holy Person with martial body like human, and consciousness like a human. This consciousness give life to the universe as consciousness does to a living human. The conscious field is pulsating and scanning all the time the material universe to get feedback to run it. When the Holy person is awake, which is thousand Yugas, every thing manifest. And again goes to sleep for thousand Yugas when everything become dormant. sks031224

If we find ourselves up in arms like Shvetaketu in 15:10 asking "What the $#@^% is all this?!?" (like the Elmo meme) because one is going in circles, Swamiji tells us to just "eat and taste the juicy apple" 38:27 😂🙏 Perhaps then we'll find perfect peace and contentment better than figuring out the who, what, when, where, why and how in external things 🙏 Thank you Swamiji for the wonderful video 🙏

It is the nature of Life, the All in One in All, to function/serve as a diversified unity of infinite potential, eternally actualizing as a unified diversity or Uni-verse.

The Universe exists because non existence isn’t an option. If non existence were an option, that would be an existent and not non existence. This is why the question “Why is there something rather than nothing?” never made sense to me.

Non existence could be an option because why create any thing when it is eventually going to become nothing

@@vanshgourkar1100 your comment implies that something can become nothing. I’ve never seen any evidence in support of that assumption and modern physics holds that matter and energy can’t be destroyed. Even when a life dies it doesn’t become nothing, it just becomes something else. There’s also a logical problem with your comment. Nothing is by definition nothing to become. To become something, there must be something to become something in the first place. Therefore, I maintain that nothing isn’t an option, if it were, that would be something by definition. Nothing in an absolute sense is a bullshit concept.

Here … Now … So we can say cycles are inherent within the nature of reality/consciousness - Days of Brahma, Manvantaras, Yugas, Precessions, etc. If we blend the evolutionary component into the cycles, do we then have spirals rather than cycles ?

One word answer- maya

Of course, every phenomenon inherent to the nature of material reality can conveniently be explained away if we regard them as illusory … have you considered the possibility the term “maya” has been misinterpreted ?

@@Philip8825for a long long time, I didn't understand "Maya". As another Swami has said "it is easier to understand Brahman, but Maya is extremely difficult"!! He has an exclusive one hour lecture about Maya on KZfaq and I still did not get it at that time. I had in fact concluded that they gave the term Maya (magic) for things that can't really be explained! But (thankfully) I kept all these doubts and still continued my studies, under the guidance of my Swamiji P. After having completed many Upanishads in the order prescribed by Swami P, and only while going through maandukya the meaning of the word Maya and the reason for that word became crystal clear and hit me on my face! So your doubts and skepticism are perfectly valid, and your tone indicates the real desire to know more (at least not dismissive). Your shravanam + mananam are not complete until all these doubts are clarified. Best wishes!

Science is used to explain most of the things here but not believed as true for the start and reason for creation. Isn't this mutually exclusive. Very valid observation regarding same questions irrespective of all intellectual threads, however, how to find answers is still under mist. Fundamental questions regarding existence may remain shrouded under mysterious. Probably the fate of humanity and we have to live with it.

The answers are all there in the Upanishads! We just need to make time to consistently and systematically study them for a length of time under the guidance of a competent aacharya.
