Arson ruled out as cause of Oceanside Pier fire

Investigators have ruled out arson as a possible cause of a fire that engulfed the far seaward end of Oceanside Pier last week, causing extensive damage and forcing an indefinite closure of the historic seafront landmark in the northwestern corner of San Diego County.
Analysis of the scene of the blaze, which gutted a vacant restaurant building and a snack shop after erupting shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday, points to an accidental cause of some sort, according to the Oceanside Fire Department.
In conducting such investigations, "we look at what we can rule out and what we can't rule out," OFD Chief David Parsons told reporters Monday afternoon during a briefing near the charred pier.

when the businesses are not being used. All of the electrical are not being maintained. And with the ocean air and how corrosive that is , it doesn't surprise me that it's electrical.

You are very mistaken. It was being used, by the Brine Box as their kitchen. They are 100% at fault.

@@GregoryCunningham- (sigh) Yes BrineBox was using the building, but only for food prep and not for cooking. But more importantly, the building is not there's; it belongs to the city. The entity that stands to gain the most from that building burning down is the city, not a small local business. If found out, their local reputation would be compromised and all 4 of their other businesses would be scrutinized. In addition, I don't believe any form of insurance they have would be able to cover the amount of damage caused to the pier. All I'm saying is that if it was accidental, that's one thing. But not intentional. The entity that gains the most from this is Oceanside City. 🤔

@@KareemPinkston The pier and all the city owned structures on the pier are almost certainly self-insured by the city. Municipalities usually don’t insure public infrastructure, the costs would get out of control quickly. What does the city stand to gain from this if not money?

Yes. BrineBox was using the building for prep and I also believe they were planning to take-over the lease and open there. But I found it interesting that he says "the company that was going to takeover"... but didn't say specifically BrineBox 🤔

Nobody was living in the building. They would have been a liability to the BrineBox food prep in that kitchen. They would have called the "City Gatekeepers" to remove them.

The rubies in Oceanside also had electrical issues that caused the fire. Maybe it's the type of material that was used in that era

Nah, a new company was already planning renovations. Even with insurance paying for the building itself the owners still going to loose money with the delay and lost opportunity costs.

The fire department is looking for an accelerant the fact that the restaurant is out there and has various sources for fire to start seems to me to be overlooked.

Definitely was arson recently remodeled and if im not mistaken reinsured has arson/insurance job written all over it and not to mention there was already plans to rebuild it before the flames were extinguished…..

The city needs to recoup all the mo way they lost over the years of it being vacant. It's a convenient method that many corporations use. Funny how this is a repeat of 2016 Seal Beach Pier.

Same thing as a few months ago up here in Tustin when one of the historic blimp hangers got lit up. The smoke hadn't even cleared and the Irvine Company was already in negotiation with the US Navy for a dirt cheap sale so they can glue together yet ANOTHER beige chicken wire and stucco townhouse development and sell them at 1.3 million a pc.
