Thank you for being part of a community of KZfaqrs who have encouraged me to try urban/plein air sketching and watercolours. I am currently travelling through Croatia and just finished my 12th painting in 8 days here. It is such a great way to form stronger memories and recall unique places and experiences. Thanks again!

Hi Marty, i'm back from a more or less voluntary digital cleanse. Such a nice video. I just read something about the Mississippi - it's really a huge and long river. It's like you said: the river does its own thing. Sitting by the river and watching the ships go by is something i love to do. So calming. Thank you for sharing all your beautiful art.

Hey Marty. I had been to Australia and New Zealand last week for a couple of weeks. It's really far but it's also really beautiful. Remembered art adventures when I sat down in the fields to sketch but it was really cold in New Zealand so I couldn't even hold the pencil still.

Hi Shrey -I want to hear all about your adventures, they sound AWESOME. Please share more place.

Fantastic - loved seeing this! Really happy for the retired art teacher! Taught and was a school counselor 23 years - retired early due to health - but husband still in public schools. All of you - SO TALENTED - hearing your voice/seeing the sites makes me miss the Midwest so much - that's where I grew up - and it was a wonderful place to live as a kid. Thanks so much for your generous sharing of these trips!

Hi Angie - Thank you for the note. Yes, I agree with you that the Midwest is awesome. Great place to raise a family and lot's to do here. Whereabouts did you grow up?
@angiewillsonarte8 жыл бұрын
Mary - born in Lafayette, In. - my Dad was at Purdue at that time.....then we moved to - get this - "Nornal, Il.":) My Dad was a psychologist and retired from Duke - so we moved all over the country as he moved up the "ladder" in universities - Austin, TX...then Charlottesville, VA, then Durham. I am now in Dallas due to husband's job and I do not like it here -tons of wonderful people, but just tooooo hot. I miss a reasonably length of summer. It know it's brutually hot in Midwest this year - but the thing is - in Midwest or east coast where we were (hub and I did a stint in D.C. burbs) - the hot lasts only so long....then, it passes and a beautiful autumn comes. That's what I miss- four seasons. Well, we had to go where the job was after recession. Our great hope is to move to four seasons in 5 years - we are in our 50s and not getting any younger. Well, that's more than you wanted to hear:) I am a retired teacher/counselor and I paint a lot indoors to cope with heat/humidity here. Tons of people love Texas - if it were not so hot, it'd be fine! I know many think Midwest is boring, etc. - well, I"ll take boring any day as I age - I create my own fun now:) Take care.

Angie Wilson Hi Angie - I know what you mean about the heat, I grew up in Mississippi and other Southern states. Here's the thing with the Midwest though, you get four great seasons, but one of them lasts a little too long, winter. At least that's the case in Minnesota where I live. I don't mind though because I love it here. IF I was going to move, I think I'd head to Portland or someplace moderate. :-) Or maybe Ireland, home of my ancestors. ~Marty
@angiewillsonarte8 жыл бұрын
I hear ya:) Grass always greener, etc. - I just miss four seasons so much. I really love Wisconsin, Minnesota, etc. -but I get that winters are absolutely brutal. Ireland sounds great. I like Portland, too. My favorite place for great weather was suburban Washington D.C. - horrible place to live in terms of lifestyle (work, work, work...repeat) - but just the right amount of each season and beautiful scenery, trees, etc. Expensive though - but so pretty. Take care - I'll be watching your great videos. Love seeing your passion for art. I am new to it - and I am learning. I watch your channel anda bout 4 others to keep learning as I am on a limited budget. Thanks so much for your generous sharing. Take care!

oh my, I could not post to your blog, so here goes, Marty, I do love your Sketchbook, am happy that you have a good fellow Artist, as a friend and comrade. I have just found you today, 8/3/16, anyway I think you have knocked my artist block away, you know when you hurt yourself, you're actually hurting the world - thank you for being ever so polite on your responses on youTube, I did a search on Lyra Rembrandt Polycolor, and found you! whenever you find this message, it will be cool, P.S. Really enjoyed this video.....apart from the amazing sketches I loved seeing the barges and the water. Going to school in Canada I remember learning to spell the Mississippi as a child and always wondered what it was like to actually see it. So a few years back I had the thrill of a lifetime to cross the Mississippi ...twice! So you can see why I loved this video so much and I do not understand where this red line is coming from...LOL! Anyways, thanks for sharing.

Great video Marty, I never get tired of looking at that blue sky! By the way, my Caran D'Ache Fibralo pens arrived during the week (30 of them in a tin) from Ebay..and I paid £29 including £4 postage which is excellent 'cos I've seen them on arty websites for at least £38-£44 or so. Are the pens new? No but I can tell they haven't been used very much, just like the kind seller said. On a little post-it note within the packaging she wrote 'Happy Colouring' which I thought was sweet..and I intend to do just that. Thanks so much for that review you posted on those pens as it made my mind up for me. I can also fit the tin into my art supplies box as well, so that was a surprise bonus!!✏️🎨😻

How do you like them Jane?
@owingsart8 жыл бұрын
Jane Metcalfe Thanks Jane. Sounds like you like them anyway so that's good. I might go glitter at some point, but not quite ready just yet. :-)
@JaneMetcalfe8 жыл бұрын
Haha! I realised afterwards what I'd said to you and then I thought, 'This man is a proper artist, what would he want with glitter pens!' There are other brush pens you might be interested in reviewing at some point (f you haven't already) such as the Zig Art & Graphic Twin or the Tombow equivalent. They are classed as watercolour brush pens but I'm not convinced. Have you reviewed these yet? If you have I apologise.
@owingsart8 жыл бұрын
Jane Metcalfe Hi Jane - I'm far from a proper Artist. :-) I have tried the Tombow's and the Zig, but not the the Graphic Twin. Here is the Tombow: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/op5nrNZmv73KkaM.html and Here is the Zig kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aZ-EdNGot-DToJ8.html Are these the ones you're looking for? Thanks, ~Marty
@JaneMetcalfe8 жыл бұрын
Well, put it this way, you are more of an artist than I am lol. Anyway, yes, I have some of those Tombows you have reviewed but I don't have the blender..just a Derwent Waterbrush. Whenever I add to the blue I have - for example - the colour does not move around. Does that make sense? So, all I have are blobs of blue whenever I try to do a sky or water. I'm useless at backgrounds so most of my coloured drawings (that other people have drawn) tend to have a white or cream background, depending on what the paper is like. As for the Zigs, the ones you have are the brush versions of my Zig Clean Color 'F' that have the same colours, I believe. I guess the 'F' stands for 'Fine' but I'm not sure. Anyway, they have a 1.2mm bullet tip at one end and an extra fine 0.5mm plastic tip at the other and I find they are extremely comfortable to hold compared to their Zig Art & Graphic as they are smaller in length so better for storing as well. You see, there is nothing I don't know about pens lol.😻

Hey Marty, great video. I have a few questions for you if you don't mind. I know that your primary medium is oil but this is for your watercolor paintings. First, what size do you work with when you do commission work? Then, how do you figure your pricing (LxWx$ or L+Wx$, etc)? Do you sell on a website? Lastly, do you mat and frame your work or do you just sell the painting in a cellophane bag with a board? I hope this isn't inappropriate to ask here, if you want to PM me that would be great also. Just trying to figure things out, Thanks Marty. -Pete
@owingsart8 жыл бұрын
Hi Pete - Lot's of great questions here. I'm pretty transparent about these things, so I don't mind responding here. For commissions, I tend to leave that up to the client, within reason. However I charge accordingly. The larger the piece, the more I charge - more on that later. If it's an oil painting, I charge more, because it involves a lot more work. If it's a watercolor I can charge less. I mat my watercolors and insert them in plastic sleeve if the size allows it. I can and do frame my oil paintings, but these days I tend to be more inclined to pay a good framer. Here is a link to my blog and a write up I did on the topic of pricing. I covered most everything on the topic as well as getting a show at a local venue. Lastly you asked about where I sell my work. I used to sell quite a bit on Etsy. I like Etsy and it's very easy to conduct a transaction there. However, for the past few years most of my sales have come from word of mouth and referrals. Here is the link: www.owingsart.com/2015/06/art-show-at-frameworks-gallery.html Thanks for asking about this Pete and let me know if you have additional questions. I'm happy to answer whatever I can. All the best! ~Marty
