When I was in school, we had a band of two. I was Garfunkel and my friend was Simon, and we sang all of the Simon and Garfunkel songs. All the lyrics are embedded in my mind forever. Thank you Simon and Garfunkel. There has never before or after been music like yours. Lots of love. 🌸🌸

Art Garfunkel was a large contributing factor to what made the duo of Simon & Garfunkel so great. I also loved his solo album 'Angel Clare' and I always felt he deserved more appreciation than he usually got, both as a musician and as a fine human being. He was the perfect complementary counterbalance to Paul Simon, both musically and in terms of personality. This sweet and poignant letter reaffirms all of that in my estimation. All the best to you, Art - and many thanks for five decades of lovely musical inspiration.

Yes, I do agree. And I also thank you for the five decades, Artie. My 70th birthday is 25th of September. I have great memories of their singing from all decades. I watch something Art and Simon on you tube everyday. Love the Central Park Concert. My seven year old great grandson's desk is right beside mine and now and then I hear him softly singing along. Love and Peace

Such a lovely poetic letter to his younger self. I grew up listening to Simon and Garfunkel's music and still have their albums. They are legends. I never tire of listening to them. The Sound Of Silence and Bridge Over Troubled Waters are so hauntingly beautiful. Garfunkel's beautiful angelic voice singing Bridge Over Troubled Waters is mesmerizing. No one else could have sang it so beautifully. I loved watching his casualness of putting his hands in his pockets when he sang and out would come that beautiful voice. Those are two of my all time favorite songs. I miss Simon and Garfunkel as a duo. Their voices harmonized so perfectly together. This video brought tears to my eyes. Thank you Art Garfunkel. You are a treasure.

And so he sings in a lower key. It still brings joy. And, that's what it is all about. That's even if the only audience is yourself. Like the line in the Harry Chapin song, "He didn't know how well he sang. It just made him whole." Thanks for the memories art.

He could tell himself to forgive Paul for recording a solo record as a teenager. It wasn't just Art's incredible voice that made the duo stars and wealthy. It was the songs PAUL wrote. Not to mention that Paul couldn't be expected to spend his life writing only songs Art would want to record. He needed to grow as a songwriter and he made great music. Art could sing songs people besides Paul wrote and did.

If you haven't watched and listened to Art's note to his younger self, you are missing out. He said when you age you get out of the way of yourself. I just had my 70th birthday on September 25 and a bulb went off over my head when he said that you get out of your own way. I know I lived thru some great decades and I am not going to be an idiot and say, "but I wouldn't go back to that age". They are fucking lying or was fugly and couldn't make friends. I would go before the wheels on the bus stopped turning round and round. But you do release your ass cheeks a little when you know you had your fun and you can't go back......I do wish I had been wilder, tried everything, and made love more. Peace and Happiness

He's still got that beautiful poetry... I was raised on Simon and Garfunkel's music, and to this day I still love listening to them. One thing I never noticed though was that Garfunkel is left handed, as is Simon. Although he can't go to the same level as he was before he lost his singing voice, he never lost the power inside him. Their songs have kept me going for so many years. And to Simon and Garfunkel, I owe a lot.

My mum told me she met Art and Paul with her girlfriends or friend in the 60's on a walking holiday staying in hostels in the North of England along the way hiking and said Paul was lovely and really shy...and Art and her shared a kiss and he gave her a piggy back Iol.. I said its funny cause you and Art both have red curly hair think he fancied my mum a little bit, she was a good catholic girl at the time! But they all had a good laugh. Sadly my mum passed away in 2011 but I always remember that story she told me and Bridge over troubled water was played at my uncles funeral and my mum was right they both seem to be good down to earth people!!

My wife and I went to see Art Garfunkel in person at the New Brunswick State Theater (NJ) last night. Was worth every minute of it. It was also an enlightening experience for Art to share his poems while singing both new & old songs. The show only had a professional acoustic guitarist and Art's voice - boy, did he show he could hold his own! Even though he does not play any musical instruments, his voice (impressively recovered after 3 years of hiatus) still carries the enchantment it did over 50 years ago. Thank you, Art Garfunkel, for sharing your heart, soul and wisdom as a lasting legacy to the rest of us! God bless you.

Then I saw them in Atlanta together right after their concert in Central Park years ago. Over 50,000 people at Grant Field downtown Atlanta, and you could have heard a pin drop before Art started singing, 'Bridge over Trouble Water'. I totally enjoyed watching this...as I too grow older... I grew up in a awesome amount of decadeds the 60's the 70's and continue on,,,, like so many artists that were a little older then me and maybe a little younger then me... We all move forward... yes the vocals of artists that we loved as youth because of time.. they cannot sing like thier prime... the actors we loved in what maybe was the pinacle of their being on top of their game... I still love it all.. and I am totally able to cut them the slack.... My very low level of talent is maybe looking through a camera lens,,, and seeing the simple,, that makes me smile,,, and maybe a few others too... The egos of artists... I dont care... for that moment in time they brought a smile to my face even decades later it is still there.

I saw Art in a small theatre in Bristol. He was recovering from his voice loss but still sang beautifully. Amazingly, he said that he had walked across Europe from west to East, doing a section each year. That in its self is an admirable achievement.

What can one say about Art Garfunkel's music ? Beautiful, reflective, romantic, speaking from places in the heart that many of us can only feel, but not put into words. I'm 59 years old, and have enjoyed music, from the time I was a little boy, and still to this day. My taste is eclectic, having grown up with parents that enjoyed the rat pack, and Vicky Carr, and so on. I also had older and younger siblings, so we listened to 60's, through 70's and 80's and 90's music ranging all over the place, really. When I look back though, and remember music that had the most impact on me. Music that when I hear it today... still draws my youthful feelings out, it's the music of Simon and Garfunkel. Art's ability to write and sing music, that touches, in a way that's so poignant, and beautiful........... brings out the romantic, and the poet, in all of us, that we didn't know we had. I've tried to imagine how music, had Garfunkel, "never been ", would be different, because of his influence. Simon and Garfunkel have touched a whole world.
