The Art Loeb trail is located in Pisgah National Forest and is one of the longer and more difficult trails North Carolina has to offer. This is a super popular trail for thru-hiking but it’s scenic highlights are easily accessible for incredible day hikes as well.
On a beautiful October fall day, our trail running group, the Raleigh Trail Runners (RTR) decided to take a field trip and tackle this trail all at once in a single push. It was tough but an amazing experience.
Most of us started at the northern end and ran SOBO, but Abe and I agreed to run NOBO, the more difficult direction, ascending nearly 8,500’ along the way.
