You can further enhance this by embracing the concept of short term memory. Your hippocampus replays the past 20 minutes of high intensity brain activity as a survival mechanism. You can play for an hour a day by doing intense and focused training for 20 minutes, doing something else or playing some other quick game like a game of risk of rain two or something, the get back to smash and do it again and think of one 20 minutes as a rep

Just some quick clarification at 3:09. When he says “Tap back before you jump,” he means that you tap back before your character leaves the ground after pressing the jump button. Edit: With the 2.0.0 update you can now press two jump buttons at the same time to short hop! Edit 2: Backflip is a misleading term. All characters can perform what IzAw describes as a backflip. It just looks different for every character. Mario actually does a backflip while Link sort of just winces in the opposite direction. The important thing is that your character immediately starts to drift backwards after performing the input.

it's almost unbelievable the amount of care that's gone into this series. Everything is great, but I REAALLY appreciate you letting the short hop exercises go their full duration. I think everybody can use that entire section on repeat as a dance partner to tighten their training. If I can suggest something, Izaw... Could do exactly that? record your 15min training session with no cuts and perhaps a simple timer countdown edited in to begin each exercise? A literal workout video with your most moderate character. You could be cute and do it on omega wii fit stage. Am I off base here? You think this will help?

This is incredible! I've started going through these one at a time. I inserted my own very challenging alternative to 3:15. Back flipping back and forth. It's possible to instantly turn around and backflip, but it requires something like a Street Fighter quarter circle motion upward upon landing. I was able to short hop fast fall backflip then immediately turn around and do it again in reverse. This video is encouraging me to practice fine tuning my movement so much!

Once I finally started feeling comfortable with basic movement / short hopping consistently I came up with this devious exercise: Go to the Training stage, and pay attention to where on the grid you are standing. now short hop exactly 1 "square" on the grid (10 mini squares), and then back to the starting position. the second time, do two squares, then proceed until you've reached the max horizontal short-hop distance of your character. I main Lucina, so her max is 5.

Been playing since Smash 4, now starting to get serious about the game and trying to get better at it. Your videos have been invaluable in that regard, they've helped me so much. I didn't even know wtf buffering meant before watching them. And while I can't say I'm ready to take on ZeRo just yet, I've definitely improved a whole lot. You're a life-saver.

Dude I can't even express how much your videos have helped me learn, understand and grow as a smash player. I came back into smash near the early to mid-life of smash 4 with my only experience with the game being me playing brawl at my cousin's house for hours on end at the age of like 8 al the way to the age of like 11 at an extremely casual level. Because of that lack of experience and knowledge, I didn't anything about smash except the VERY bare minimum, like less than what the instruction guide at beginning of the game will teach you. After getting eviscerated online countless times and being told by a smash-tuber that I wasn't going to able to get better because the smash community was very hostile to new players trying to learn, I ended up dropping the game for a long time. I wasn't till a year or two before ultimate got announced that I randomly picked the game back up and unsurprisingly I was still hot ass. But then I found your channel a couple of months before ultimate's announcement and started watching your videos, and oh my lord, I can't tell you how much shit I learned for watching your guides that I never knew existed. I slowly found my self becoming better and better to the point where I could finally take a stock off a person online. Now I'm at a point where I can play at a pretty competitive level and defeat most casuals and lvl 9 cpus regularly and put up a fight against someone who's somewhat experienced at the game. I still got a long way to go but I just wanna thank you for helping get at this level with your magnificently made and edited videos. They helped a shit-ton and I hope it helps others as much as helped me.

Thank you so much, Izaw. I’ll definitely practice this often. I have one question though. You see, I main both Ken and Ryu and they have this auto turn mechanic so they can’t face the other direction of their opponent unless they are running in said direction or rawring. So some of these exercises just don’t work. Do I: A. Put the number of training CPUs to 2 and practice the exercises? (Since any more than one opponent will cancel out the auto turn-mechanic) or B. Not do those exercises at all? Since they wouldn’t be beneficial cause of the auto turn mechanic when playing since there’s no way I’d be able to casually jump towards my opponent with my back facing them. The Rawr followed by a back air would still be possible but not if I’m doing it from an initial dash cause it just doesn’t work with the auto turn-mechanic. Thanks in advance.
