It was great fun to be with you. My sister and I went to Ireland 6 years ago. Loved it. We only traveled 4 days in Scotland from Glasgow to Edinburgh. Blessings.

I really wish I had known that courses like this existed when I left school. I always thought uni wasn't for me, but I would have loved doing something like this. It looks like so much fun (and hard work) and your dorm and all the buildings look great.

Your Halloween scarf is giving me more Día de Muertos vibes than Halloween. The asymmetry is lovely, definitely makes for an interesting piece. I definitely envy you getting to go to Ireland. I was fortunate enough to be able to go to the Celtic parts of mainland Britain where a lot of my ancestors come from a few years ago but I just didn't have the time (or the money) to squeeze in Ireland as well. Since then it's been becoming more and more apparent that I also have Irish ancestors and I would like to give them their homage.

I wondered how you been and how Ryan has been doing. I am happy to see you two got together in my ancestors land. Thank you both for allowing us to tag along with your precious time with each other!

Don’t fret about your Scottish cape knit with Irish wool. There is a lovely connection between the two. St. Colombo of Ireland brought Christianity to Scotland and landed and founded a monastery in Iona. A beautiful place to visit🇨🇦🇨🇦

And, of course, a lot of Scots are descended from the Irish when the kingdom of Dál Riada was formed, circa 500 - 850, which is how a Goidelic language is found in Scotland. There were also Scots who went back to Ireland as plantation Scots and while there is a lot of unpleasant history there (colonialism and suppression of the native Irish population) it is also true that a certain amount of intermingling, shall we say, occurred. Then there were Irish people who migrated to Scotland following the Famine, in search of opportunities. So, at least on the west coast of Scotland, the two groups are very much inter-twined. Both groups were, frankly, the victims of colonial oppression by the English. On a much happier note, both groups have strong indigenous textile traditions.

Thank you soo much for this vlog. I’m excited to visit Ireland myself now. (I live in England). So glad Ryan managed to ‘pop over’ and enjoy the adventure with you. I love the cape/shawl that you are knitting. 😍

Oh, Andrea, so happy that you went to Eire, and with your cutie putooti! Love how the Halloween scarf turned out and the thistle one 😍! I have to tell you (because I know you will understand) I had a bit of a lottery win! I like Darlaine yarn, no longer being made, and have some of a “Country Blue” that I just love. Well anyway, this color doesn’t come up for auction very often. Well it did and it came in the mail on Saturday and lo and behold IT WAS THE SAME DYE LOT AND EVERYTHING! I was so amazed, and of course and happy.

Ok, if you are still in Scotland and particularly in Glasgow, you might enjoy knit night at the yarn cake on the crow road. The banter is 11/10.

As a scot (and textile geek), this makes me so happy to see. While your here I definitely recommend visiting the east neuk of fife and shetland. Both have rich history or textiles and have amazing yarn shops.

Of course you got yarn and sweaters! How could you not? I really want to go to Ireland (we loved Scotland and your experience on that Irish island reminds me of the Outer Hebrides, though they're a bit less remote). I am so with you on yarn wraps.Unless you're going to weave a warp-faced or weft-faced fabric, the wraps don't show you the effect of the interlocking threads. I've found over the years that when I tried to plan with yarn wraps, I was disappointed in the results. OTOH, it does show you somewhat how the colors interact.

It sounds like you have oodles to catch us up on. Your Ryan is quite the romantic. The table bowling, come on! Count your blessings! The trip to Ireland looked amazing. Thanks for taking time to give us a peek into your October. Looking forward to November-January! Warped my third time and have the scarf 2/3 done. All because of you.

what a plot twist lol, definitely was not expecting you to say let's go to ireland. i thought you were going to change the colourwork motif to some shamrocks or something. i'd love to go to ireland one day, my grandmother grew up there. i've seen the house where she grew up on google streetview but i'd love to see it in person.

I am so happy you got over to Ireland. I spent time there in the early 80's. Never got into the North much but maybe another time. Keep up all the creativity.

Thanks Andrea. As always you cheer me up with your infectious smile. I loved your trip to Innisheer..I went there with my husband years ago. I still have a bag printed with different kinds of Aran stitches. There’s a beautiful traditional fiddle tune called Innisheer. I think you’d love it.. 🌷

I love your wonderfully wacky Halloween scarf it's totally unique. I wanted to ask if you have ventured further north in Scotland? My family hail from the whisky area and I never cease to be amazed by the beautiful pinks and purples of the heathers against the grey's of the granite and unfortunately, the sky too, despite that it's sooo pretty. My aunt's have occasionally supplemented their income by knitting fairisle and aran sweaters to sell in the local shops unfortunately, I was never interested in learning until now. What a treat to meet up with Ryan and enjoy a trip to beautiful Ireland. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us I always find your blogs so interesting and relaxing.
