A note regarding director's chairs. I purchased the standard size for my wife and the "wider" version for myself (thinking I'm the 6' 200 lb guy). As it turns out, the wider chair is a bit shallower for some reason and we both prefer the "standard" size that was, of course, cheaper. Watch out for the issue...

Hey Evan, love your videos! In fact, after a long hiatus dating back to the economic event back in 2008-2009, you've inspired me to get back out there. This time, went all out with Pro Panels and all the essential utilities. I luckily squeezed in to (3) regional to myself art fairs last season even after the application deadlines passed. This year I started out cautiously due to a health issue and needing reasonable time to recuperate from a major surgery (not knowing exactly how long I'd need for recoup). Anyhow, I applied to (5) Art Fairs within 90 minutes of home, accepted to (4) and am on a wait list for one of the most difficult shows in the northeast to get into. My fingers are crossed, I've checked the show out (pre-scouting) several times to see the layout and speak with artists to get some vibes. It's awesome and in a great location.. I know this pales in comparison to you, hearing that last year (21) shows was a bit off compared to prior years! WOW. Anyhow, I do have a question(s) regarding how you manage inventory.. and feedback on which size matted prints you feel are most popular sellers. Regarding inventory, do you travel with a certain number of "extra" wall display pieces for when you sell a displayed piece to a client to replace the vacancies? I'm one of those that tries to keep a cap on expenses, not wanting an extreme overage of artworks. Also, how many bin prints do you normally take to a show? I've found Bin Prints to be extremely popular sellers. I have a variety of matted pieces in sleeves, and also an assortment of photo prints without mats in sizes no smaller than 15x10", 18x12" and 13x19". I am considering offering 16x24" matted prints. I'm open to your thoughts on this. Thanks in advance!!

Awesome! Glad to hear you’re excited to be getting back in to doing shows after such a long break. Inventory is a tough one to figure out and varies greatly from artist to artist. I usually travel with a fairly large inventory of matted prints and variety of large work for the walls. If I’m on a long run of shows away from home, I’ll usually have a couple of my better selling pieces as well as alternative pieces that I can hang. If something sells off the wall and I don’t have anything to replace it with, I will usually move things around so that I don’t have a big gaping hole in the display. Reorganizing how things are hung usually does the trick. Staring out, I would agree to err on the side of controlling expenses and not having a huge inventory. You can always take orders and ship things that your run out of. That’s a good problem to have. It’s also hard to know what your best sellers will be at first. Once you’ve established this, you can stock a greater number of your best selling pieces. Good luck at your shows! I’m packing to head up to the northeast next week for a run of shows, maybe I’ll see you there. Thanks for watching!!!

Another fabulous video Evan - thank you! I absolutely love the Harmon Hooks and have used them the past 2 or 3 years with my ProPanels. I do like to use long gear ties versus using zip ties. They come in handy for many things. My vehicle is much smaller (but I only get to do shows very part-time) so finding places to fit everything in is sometimes a fun challenge. Keep producing videos, there's always something to learn or to see. I personally like seeing all the different "live" booths. I do have to make my Reflectix pouches a bit different than the envelopes as my pieces are deeper. Thanks for posting.

I’m going to try some zip tie alternatives based on all the feedback received on this video. I never liked the plastic waste they produce, but they work extremely well. Thanks for watching!

How much does a tent setup like that cost? I know most of the higher end shows want that style of tent with the carpeted walls. Hoping to get up to that point!! Also, I do something similar with the heavy duty zip ties with tying walls, but recently I started using these heavy duty reusable velcro straps that seem to work well.They stay on permanently and seem to hold just as strong as the zip ties, but it's just one less thing to cut/throw away when it comes time to break down!

Good tip about the velcro strap! I hate the waste created from the zip ties but they work better than anything I’ve ever tried. A full Light Dome booth with Pro Panels is going to run well over $2k now if purchased new. You can usually find artists selling some with some patience and searching around. Start with what you have and can afford and work your way up. I started with a $100 pop up tent and home made grid walls. Reinvest in your business when starting and make little improvements along the way, those small steps add up!

@@EvanReinheimer Yes sir, thank you. I have a Eurmax 10' white tent, it's pretty good. And some white metal standalone grid walls from Storesupply that were like $35 each. Do you have any suggestions for mobile power? I have a big show in 3 weeks that goes into the night, where I'll need lights for about 3-4 hours in my tent. I usually have string lights and 1-2 LED lights I put in the corners of my tent. I don't want to run a generator and all that hassle. I was hoping to get one of those large mobile rechargable battery banks that you can plug into and hopefully it'll last 3+ hours. Thank you for everything. I know I've told you before but you've been a big inspiration and a way bigger help than you'll ever know!!

@@ClarkeBowmanPhotographythanks, Clarke! Happy to hear that always😊 I’ve used the power bank/vehicle jumper/air compressor that I mentioned in the video to power lights before. It should def work with LED lights for 4 hours (but test to be sure). Unfortunately, I don’t think the new model has a standard plug (only USB) but this one does: amzn.to/4anqEem and this is actually the newer version of the one I had previously and ran lights off of.

so helpful Evan esp with weights - havent yet applied to shows near the beach.

Glad you found this helpful! It can get windy at any shows, near the beach or not. One of the windiest shows I ever did was in Ft. Worth, TX.

Your videos are so helpful - thank you! Question about weights - I just purchased a show off and my first show with it is soon. I made the concrete/PVC weights (hint: screw on a drawer handle on the side before filling. They don’t roll around and are easier to carry) and I usually suspend two from each leg (screw in eye hooks to one end cap) for 56# per leg. Would it be better to attach them to the sta-bars? That would make it 84# on each side and 56# in the back but I’m wondering if it might not be better to have that weight holding the top of the canopy rather than the bottom. Thanks!
@EvanReinheimer
@EvanReinheimer 17 күн бұрын
Thank you! It’s best to attach weights to the top corners via a strap like the ones I mention in this video. Having the weights attached to the sta-bars at the bottom doesn’t provide as much downward force/weight.

Very helpful! I'm curious where you typically position your chair when there are other tents across the street.
@EvanReinheimer
@EvanReinheimer 2 ай бұрын
I rarely even set up my chair. I find it disruptive to set up my chair in the middle of the street. So, the only time I have it set up is if there is an open area in front of my booth, like in this video. Otherwise it stays folded up behind my booth and maybe I’d bring it out and sit at the end of a Sunday afternoon or something. I sell better on my feet, but by the end of a show my legs are tired.

Great tips Evan, any other recommendations for email newsletters? I signed up for brevo, blacklisted me as spam and canceled me without explanation! I didn’t even get a chance to send an email lol

WOW…I’ve never heard of that happening. Crazy. Try contacting their customer support maybe? I used MailChimp for a while and was very happy with it. It’s free if your list is small (I think the limit is 500) but the paid plans get expensive. So it could be a good option if you’re just starting with a small email list.

I reached out to them and this is their response (short version): “Unfortunately, your account did not pass this analysis and we are unable to validate your account. We will unfortunately not be able to communicate more specifics about this decision but we invite you to review our anti-spam policy” from there they just thanked me for trying it lol . I’ll give mailchimp a try. Thanks!
