Thank you! I've taken lots of art classes, beginning back in the 1950s, if you can believe it. I've sold work in galleries large and small, but this is one of the best single lessons I've ever seen Alex. So many teachers, and artists, forget that, ideally, painting should be a joyful act. Of course, in the video I think there is enough information to get started, but it drags on and then you want to know more. Watching you mix colors, and apply brush strokes is super interesting and helpful, Alex, as is the soothing and inspiring commentary. Would you mind telling us exactly what sizes of brushes and types of bristles you used here? Thank you!
@Alex_Teal
@Alex_Teal 10 ай бұрын
Hello, if you watch other videos, I always sign brushes, but here I seem to have forgotten, sorry. The size of the brush is taken based on the size of the canvas and the size of the object we are painting. I took the large brush just for fun, I had never seen this brand before and wanted to try it. To create the texture of the stroke, you need a flat brush made of natural bristles size 2, 3, 4 even 5. Size number 3 is 3 mm wide is like 1/8 inch if you are from the US. For small details, you can use flat synthetic 0-1, but if there is a bristle, you can use it, but the brush must be of high quality, as it wears out quickly.

Thank you for sharing this! I enjoyed watching it. I was wondering if you painted it all in one go or do you typically let it dry at some point and then continue? Asking because I have trouble putting paint on top of paint without it mixing and turning into a different colour. Not sure what I’m doing wrong.
@Alex_Teal
@Alex_Teal 12 күн бұрын
Hi, there are 2 ways: On Dry - this is when we let the previous layer dry and then apply paint, this technique is shown in this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ZpukoZN7u6zKg6s.htmlsi=mUJ5tROxJRFWc1c- On Wet - this is how I did it in this video, when we apply fresh paint to another fresh one. Here the pressure on the brush and how you hold it play a big role. Try to take the brush like Harry Potter holds a magic wand and paint on a vertical plane. I have a separate video on this topic, but it is included in the painting course, which you can find at the link www.alex-teal.us

@@RobertHopkinsArt Man, I can make your day even worse - just look online for "Spanish Stretcher (bastidor de tipo español)". I'm currently working on a big restoration project in Barcelona, one of the shops where the film "Perfumer" was filmed. @@Alex_Teal that sounds exactly like the process I have to use to manipulate myself hahaha. Today may be the day. It's the last day off I have for a while, and I am fairly sure I have all the materials and a canvas ready to go....I've done a million acrylic paintings before, and have always, always, always, always wanted to do something in oils, but I always told myself that was for "serious people" and. just didn't need the headache for a home picture. More recently, after finding a whole bunch of oils on extreme sale, I found some of your videos after feeling like something Van Gogh would probably be a realistic first try. I really thought I was going to do Lemons on a Plate and had even done a study about the background that I was really, really happy with (but had done in acrylic since it had been about 20 years since I put a brush on a canvas), but I kept waiting. Finally, this particular way that you've presented this, from the first moment to the last (and I don't like cats and I will never like cats but that metaphor pointed out how ridiculous I'm being...it's just a picture), made me want to strike. Even if something stupid happens this morning and steals the day from me (we'll see), this picture is the one.
