Thank you for sharing this! I enjoyed watching it. I was wondering if you painted it all in one go or do you typically let it dry at some point and then continue? Asking because I have trouble putting paint on top of paint without it mixing and turning into a different colour. Not sure what I’m doing wrong.

Hi, there are 2 ways: On Dry - this is when we let the previous layer dry and then apply paint, this technique is shown in this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ZpukoZN7u6zKg6s.htmlsi=mUJ5tROxJRFWc1c- On Wet - this is how I did it in this video, when we apply fresh paint to another fresh one. Here the pressure on the brush and how you hold it play a big role. Try to take the brush like Harry Potter holds a magic wand and paint on a vertical plane. Inspiring and so like Van Gogh. Are you using stiff bristle brushes? I only have soft watercolor brushes that seem to blend too much.

Yes, unfortunately watercolor brushes are too soft for impasto and texture painting and are not suitable for oils. The only exception is if you strongly dissolve oil paints in the medium and paint with them like watercolors. In general, yes, you need bristle brushes for oils.

A hue is usually artificial.

Absolutely right! The A or Azo marking is also used, it all depends on the adequacy of the manufacturer. Some paints exclusively have non-natural pigments, for example, cinnabar, which is extremely toxic.

I like the comparison, it shows that cheap paint is not always weaker in color but sometimes a very different color comes out when mixed and this is often muted.

This is an excerpt from my painting course, where I also tell that for painting with simple mixtures of paints you can take an economical option, but if you like complex tints of shades, then you will have to choose something more expensive.

Hi Alex, thanks for the video, it was fascinating watching the painting come to live with each stroke. For the underpainting, did you add a medium to your oils for it to dry so fast?

Of course, the underpainting is definitely done with the medium, I should have said this somewhere in the video, I hope this text was not lost in the editing. Turpentine, white spirit or gamsol. Very liquid so that the paint penetrates deep into the soil.
