Guys, I've lived in Tijuana all my life, and I was a volunteer at the Centro Cultural Tijuana (CECUT) in 2013. It really means a lot to me that you decided to give some visibility to my city's richness and cultural scene. I love your show, as well Sexplanations ❤️💛💚💙💜 Please keep coming back! You missed a lot of cool stuff to talk about ☺️

I love the idea of art as research. Artists and Scientists, in the same breath and category, doing the same work.

This was so great, the Art Assignment going international. I think the more I watch the work that you guys do, the more I realize how art is one of the only political tools available to the underprivileged and marginalized, which is more powerful and yet more silent than traditional public action like protest and petition.

Tijuana is a very unapologetic city, im born and raised here; I dance and make videos so I take interest in the art sense the city has to offer, my friends and I take notice in the interest people from other places and walks of life have and that come here. A lot if the times either stay or come back constantly, yet we as locals cannot wait to get out of the city, we understand the great things it has to offer, but growing up here you get to see ALL the aspects of the city. And sometime we feel overwhelmed with the problematics we feel we can’t do anything about, we can’t calmly walk in av. Revolucion late at night after a free street jazz concert because we get catcalled and when we get to our car one of the windows would be broken, if instead of going up the Avenida into the pasajes you keep walking down town you will find sex workers on the street, every few meters, with police cars parked just around the block. This city has grown a lot in the past few year, the art sense has developed and more projects like the one shown here are necessary, this city doesn’t need fancy orchestras for politicians it need art to get to the kids, to show people the can have a voice, lux boreal has done great work for kids and I was so happy to see this episode posted, and so excited for the work being done here having a place is a space like the art assignment, thank you for getting out of the US even for a few miles, for not putting up the stereotype created by traditional media of our city, thank you for this great work, Sarah I’m a fan :3 . My friends and I want to take an art trip but want to get away for a day, we are great full for what we have here, but feel we need a reset. *Also glad they took you to tacos salceados unexpected salsas but great none the less :D

+ My word, THE FOOD!! Another lovely tour of a place I'd never think to visit (again). I went as a child with my aunt to visit some of her relatives, I spoke spanglish, so I hardly said a word the couple of days we were there. The only sightseeing we did was when my aunt drove past an amazing traditional Japanese home where it was noted that a very wealthy Japanese family lived there. I didn't find it an oddity, even though where we were staying where it seemed pretty much like slums. What I do remember was it was SO hot that I couldn't sleep. Seems The Art Assignment was there during a cooler part of the year... wait, there's a cool season? Sometimes I think I should learn more about my Mexican heritage, but wouldn't know where to begin since there are no longer distant relatives who could clue me in as to how life may have been for grand, great-, and great great-grandparents. Thanks for taking us along with you and The Art Assignment team, Sarah!

I thought this was a brilliant, insightful, inspirational and educational video! I’m originally from and had grown up in IB (or Imperial Beach) just next to the San Ysidro border. I really enjoyed the part about Raul Osuna speaking about how sometimes cities n communities have to become bad to rise from the ashes like phoenix... THO he said that in different words. It reminded me of a motivational speaker who I just heard saying that nothing changes when people are complacent... but when enduring hardships.. . That when change happens.

Wow, the Dome at the Centro Cultural reminds me a lot of Boulée's Cenotaph for Newton. That's really cool. :) Really great to see this city from this angle, to remind us there's more here and more going on here than a few hasty headlines. Wonderful to see the humanity. Thank you for visiting and sharing. :)

Haha. But what I like about this assignment is that the people you meet never even have to know that you're doing this assignment. You can just talk to a person. This one takes no small amount of courage, but I'm sure it would be immensely rewarding. I need to do it.

The Caffé Sospeso roasting techniques are an artform. It has nothing to do with hipster culture, it has to do with love of coffee culture, respect of communities where the coffee is grown, direct trade and the best roasted beans you'll get this side of Southern California.
@theartassignment
@theartassignment 8 жыл бұрын
I should have clarified that the hipster pressure I felt did not come from Sospeso itself. Everyone there was warm and non-juding and clearly committed to their craft. The pressure I felt came from a combination of myself and previous visits to experimental coffee shops. We loved Sospeso!

Its mostly Spanish, but if you went through there higher learning institutions you could at least understand and speak basic english. Also there is probably a bigger chance that you will meet more Mexican english speakers at border cities or tourist areas.

most people at border cities, we speak english. Until a few decades ago people in tijuana would pay everything in dollar and everyone would speak english even with out school education, this was in my grandmas time so problably just arround the 40s.

Why in the hell do most artist dress so damn quirky ? Quirky and mod fashions are always the de rigueur within every art community throughout the world. I never understood why this is the case. If you're truly quirky , people will recognize this flaw soon enough.
