I think Vieira is going through the same that ESR is and what Martinelli went through, long injuries so Arteta is giving them time to fully recover, he absolutely has a future with us and we’ve already seen he can impact games and he’s only going to get better

I've been saying since the beginning of the season that Vieira is a player fans shouldn't lose hope on. He's had such a horrid run of injuries and badluck. There have been times when he's cone back and played really well, then got injured again. If he can stay fit, he's got the best final ball behind Odegaard, can shoot from outside the box and has great vision. He's dangerous on the attack. We shouldn't forget his quality

If Timber had been fit all season our defence AND offence would have been even better as he is like a mixture of Zinchenko and Tomiyasu. He might not have the passing range of Zinny, but he's a better dribbler and is amazing on the ball with both feet and most importantly; under pressure. I think he is gonna be Joao Cancelo 2.0 being a right footed left back inverting from the left side in attack, except he's a better defender and stronger than Cancelo. Can't wait to see him fully fit in this squad and especially this defence. We have the current best CB pairing in the world and the best defence in the Prem and arguably the world. Imagine if we had Timber at LB the whole season who would bring what Zinny brings and what Tomi brings but in one player, alongside Gabriel, Saliba and White. Now imagine if we had Partey fit for the entire season, meaning Rice could've played and settled into that box to box role even more so than he already has! I can't wait to see a fully fit back 4 next season mixed with some big signings we will definitely make considering the money we've already made from the CL (over £120mill in reward money for qualifying for RO16 + QF) and the fact that even if we go out to Bayern and come 2nd in the league, we have proven that we belong among Europe's elite again which will make world class players want to join. If we manage to win the Prem and get past Bayern (and maybe further) then I can genuinely see us splashing mega money on a world class striker and some top up & coming / world class midfielders. Whatever happens this season, the Summer transfer window and next season are gonna be *exciting* :). What a time to be an Arsenal fan! COYG!

With Zini he barely put a foot wrong offensively but when he started to get exposed defensively his attacking play took a hit .. started giving it away more, dodgy passes etc

Zinchenko IMO is 1st choice LB in most games. Only in the BIG game he is not. We have more smaller games than bigger games.

After seeing how important Jorginho has been this season I see Zinny as the perfect replacement in that position. He’s too much of a defensive liability as a LB but as a cm he would thrive. We sometimes lack those balls that break lines or switches and Zinny is so good at those

Kwior in the Bayern game, yes.

I like Vieira more on the right side of midfield, but thats Odegaards spot. He played and scored in an away game last season (Bournemouth?) and just looked more comfortable there. But Odegaard is so good, that I don't see him getting much game time either.

About Zinchenko, I don’t agree that he has been forgotten: all problems are primarily due to injuries. Firstable, about number of choices: we don't have a situation. when all squad absolutely fit. It means, that we don't know what option would be prefer. Even Timber - we don't saw him enough, and before this season he didn't played as LB. Ok, will imagine that he is the first. Tomiyasu is not better thah Alex as piwot. Even when he played LB at start of the season, he up to the left 8, not as piwot (especcisaly because he can't pass as well as Alex). And if we don't talk abot injuries: one of the reason not use Alex is Jorginho. Arteta needs passing MF. Rice, unfortinatly, not so good as single piwot, because his passing just ok, not good. Jorginho and Alex are sooo good in passing. If we don't have both, Odegard forced to go lower. This is a good option, but the captain is more necessary higher up. Frequent drops harm his attacking potential and overall work in pressing (he is the main trigger). And I love Jorginho so much, he's so good partner for Rice, but he's 32. Without Alex we have too less variants how to help Rice with advancing the ball through the pass. Also Tomy and Timber can play RB. White is extra player, but he's not the iron. Sometimes we need rotate him too. This season, when both options were injuread, hould not become the norm ( I'm realy afraid about his knees). I think if all team are absolutely fit, Alex and Tomy - two same '"second" options (after Timber) for different scenarios. Zincjenko for ball control and atacking, Tomiyasu for defending. I very like Kiwor, but he's weeker than Tomy as defender, weeaker than Alex in passing. He had a good games segment, but I'm sure, if Tomy and Alex are ready, Jacub will be the fourth choice (example - game vs Brighton), not Zinchenko. About his defending mistakes: all players make mistakes, even Saliba and Big Gabi. You also can remember Tomiyasu mistake agains City (pass to KDB), but he still in the squad. Injuries is the real problem, but it's not about one player. May be with more rotation options situation will be better. It's great than Arsenal in that season is not so depends on Alex, but if we talk about skills and role - Alex still so important.

The progression of this team is absolutely nuts. At the start of last season, Jesus and Zinchenko felt like a real cut above most of our then-current players. They were serial winners coming in from Man City. Could we become close to as good as Man City with these guys? Was Arteta really bringing us into that stratosphere? Amazing! But almost two seasons on and now I'm thinking "Man City? PFFF". Arteta isn't aiming at Man City. His ambition is quite higher than that. Jesus and Zinchenko are now merely good and useful players in this squad. Looking at the age of this team I think Arteta's looking at going places that even Man City hasn't reached. To do doubles and trebles every year.

toward the end of last season Arteta said he didn't play Vieira enough. I think from the few minutes he's had he's shown that he IS a difference maker. It's just hard to say why he hasn't had more minutes. I can only assume it's because he's competing with Saka and Odegaard...

I like Fabio but what he really needs is game time for his development. Consistently. Unfortunately he'd struggle to get that here but I also don't want him out on loan because he'd be important for the squad. Maybe a loan to a PL team to watch his development more. Aston villa or Brighton maybe. A good level team.

Viera for me I haven't seen anything in his game that I feel is really going to benefit us Smith-Rowe on the other hand can be key if used correctly and consiently I really think if Mikel uses Smith-Rowe as a number 8 he can become a top top player but he needs to be patient and give him time to develop think how much time he has given Havertz and now he is finally coming good ESR can be key but it will depend on how much Mikel believes in him

I’d really love for Timber to be fit or for Tomi and Kiwior to play that Left back role so that we can try to use Zinny in that 8 role or have him more central when players like Jorginho aren’t fit

SO interesting you come out with this video now, esp re Zinchenko. I had a debate just yesterday with someone about him being a weakness. To clarify we are talking levels.. he is a fantastic player and im not talking Armand Traore levels of worry, or even Mustafi Kolasinac levels, but i AM worried at seeing him start twice now in recent games leaving me to be concerned he is still an Arteta favorite and will play in big games. Perhaps Brighton away wasnt one of those games in Arteta's mind.. or maybe Zinnys strength of ball playing in the middle was more important than defense, but with Bayern, CIty/Madrid semis plus a CL final, obv ideally, against whoever.. I personally think we are better off with Kiwior at LB. He aint as g ood on the ball in the middle, but he aint bad plus we have others for ball progression in Jorginho/Partey and Odegaard.. so I think we are a better TEAM with Kiwior and crucially we dont offer those top opponents with a weakness to target. He was a huge part of taking us from CL qualification challengers to a top 2/3 team and im grateful to him for that, and he can still be a good squad player (tho I also agree Timber will be first choice as he can play ball and defend AND ball carry on the outside ((or inside)), with Kiwior or Tomiyasu the second choice..) but I think we see why City were happy to lose him.. the level is higher now at Arsenal and we cant afford to have weaknesses in the "FIRST 11" 😛

i think you’re wrong about Vieira, but time will age that well same with the majority on ESR. Mikel loves these players like absolutely loves them, but the defensive and physical side of the game will not be surrendered for any player unless your Messi

Unlike guys like Saka and Odegaard, who will have many opportunities to impact games, Veira and ESR (as well as Eddie and Reiss) will have a moment or two to contribute to the team. Some game will be 1-1 in the 80th minute, and ESR or Veira will be on the pitch. They'll get a chance to make a key pass, or a shot or a moment of pressing that could contribute to a goal. That will likely be where they can make an impact. I think both will be here next year and will be able to contribute more though.

I wish Nelson got more time in the light. What he lacks in the pace that Saka has, he more than makes up for it in raw balling ability. He can dribble guys unlike Saka.

Zinny was the reason Antony scored against us at OT last year. Antony might not be the most threatening winger out there, but the issue is that Zinny probably believes it and would be even more complacent defensively. I want Tomi or Kiwior va United. Teams that play chaos ball would cook Zinny, and we really can’t afford his lackadaisical approach to defending down the home stretch

Unpopular opinion but I think Zinny actually hinders us. With him coming into the mid meant white needed to stayed back and we saw how much that affected Saka. White overlaps gave saka a performance + position boost. Take a look at those first 10 games, we were winning but barely scoring. When zinny was injured white was able to overlap again and that’s when we had our goal explosion.

Partey then Cost us Versus West Ham, overplaying and getting caught (by Rice). ESR should get more time, Nelson, Vieira and Nketiah No. I'd even play ESR and leave Jesus on bench. Rotate Havertz and Jesus.

Reminder. Zinchenko is NOT 4th! That’s because there’s no 1st! That thinking is so flawed and doesn’t represent a perspective of understanding what Mikel Arteta is doing. To correct you, who starts and why they start is determined first of all by the opposition, the tactics that will be drawn from the analysis of the weaknesses and strengths of the opposition! As well, Arteta will anticipate what the opposition will TRY TO DO to us, and HOW to stop it or work around it! When you start talking so and so is first you miss a whole lot of facts and truths. Some players will be critical in the spine of the team because it’s harder to have both of them for many reasons; value, and pedigree. It’s not possible to have two Odegaards at their prime, Rice, Saliba, Saka. Because benching them often is not practical. But other positions are heavily rotated for the purpose of bringing the dynamics that actually cause the team to thrive! These are the tweaks to these positions that bring the complexity of our tactics and make us even more effective due to the unpredictability of the various profiles that can be introduced in these areas. When you talk about Arteta, be careful about thinking there’s a fixed role for one player! During the games, even the guys who rarely get benched, do minimum two or more variations in and during the game; when they don’t, they’ll not be playing regularly to start with. I THERE REFUTE YOUR IDEA OF ZINCHENKO BEING 4th. Arterta’s idea is NEVER to be understood by opponents while each game he brings surprise after surprise each game.
