Derek is a residency trained physical therapist currently working at Stanford Children’s Health as the Advanced Clinical Specialist in the rehabilitation department. Prior, he worked at the University of Florida for 10 years in sports medicine, treating a variety of athletic injuries from overuse to post-operative. He is involved in the peer reviewed process for academic journals and has spoked at national level conferences within the physical therapy profession on topics from utilization of resistance training in the rehabilitation of endurance athletes to post operative hip progressions. When he is not in the gym or treating, he can typically be found reading, cooking, or brewing beer.

Just found out I have moderate to severe osteoarthritis in my knee. At 46 it's a little daunting thinking that I'll a few decades of this worsening to deal with. Videos like these give me a little hope that I can make adjustments and hopefully keep the dust off for a few more years.

26 years old, OA in my lower back for 6 years now. Go to the gym 5 times a week, I’m an RN in a hospital. 0 to no pain. Strengthen those muscles people and keep kicking butt!! Also remember, Jesus loves you :)

This is very encouraging. Glad to come across info such as this. Recently turned 42 and am feeling some ongoing stiffness and pain in my right hand and wrist but am wanting really bad to get back into shape and get stronger and more fit. Keep up the good work.

Do what you can. But do it consistently, and increase the weights over time. It's the same as when you were young: consistent progressive overload, but as appropriate for you as an individual. Aged 64, post cancer, with chemo-induced neuropathy, and a total knee replacement and ankle fusion - I'm benching 225lbs (100kgs)

I'm 68 (almost 69) and have had both hips replaced, left toe and right shoulder replaced. Wish I would have found the Blueprint earlier! But I am afraid of hurting my joints as I don't want another replacement! Also have upped the weights and had to put ice on my shoulder for 3 days so backed down. I am getting so much stronger now though! Have to listen to your body like Dr. Allysa says!

I'm in daily agony, but I love lifting weights & have tried doing some lifting lying on my back in bed. I'm using 3kgs. dumbells. I have stage 4 OsteoArthritis both hips & my knees are affected by Sciatic nerve damage, so standing is tricky. I'm doing as many of your videos as possible. I love you!

I'm sorry to hear that. Are you doing any better? I also have stage 4 arthritis in my shoulder and it's so scary/difficult to live with

Is a trapbar a good tool to use for knee arthritis? I started doing barbell rack pulls a few weeks ago.

Really depends on if your body has the strength and stability to tolerate everyday as well as what’s involved in your recovery.
