He wrote this song for the movie when he was in a jet coming into to New York City for a landing with a full moon in the night sky. As the jet banked to one side he could see the lights of the city on one side down below, and the full moon on the other side out the windows. The plane had to circle for awhile before it could land for some unknown reason. He had been hired to write the song before this had happened and this gave him the inspiration to do so !! Beautiful love song for sure !!

@@tariqahmed9796 JJ is correct. The line about getting caught between the moon and New York City is Peter Allen's. Agree, we lost one the best composers of 🎶 music ever walking the planet. He wrote many other songs too, that he & other artists performed, ones I did not know at all, or that he was the composer. I got one glorious chance to see him in concert at KC's Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, already several years now. He told the story of being born & living his 1st year in in KC, MO, b4 his parents & fam moved west, I think- he told us that he thought it was no accident, that he was born on "Warwick" St., or Blvd. . Everybody knows he wrote many of his classics for Dionne "Warwick" in his early career, kind of dove-tailing his rise in the music industry. I agree it was a marvy twist of fate !!! Feel good & also melancholy songs for sure. He also wrote songs for The Carpenters, & I think was instrumental in their climb to fame.

stevepwnz Agreed. I was born a year after this film came out and I’ve always lived this movie and find I’ve even taken some of the mannerisms and ways I interact with people in my own life, women especially, based on the chivalry and gilded feeling pervasive in this film. This 70s/80s era in NYC may not have been perfect but there was something that exuded class and aspirational elitism that is tough to find these days.

My mom showed me this movie in elementary school back in the 90s. Dudley Moore was a special gem who must be remembered. I can not wait until my kids are old enough to enjoy this film. It is an 80s comedy gem.

I was born in ‘99, but these videos make feel nostalgia for an era I never lived in. Makes me sad, that all these folks are now in their 50’s-60’s and a lot have died.

Sir John Geilgud (Hobson) was a Shakespearean actor on superlative level---Willy Shakes would have been proud. It's fantastic that they cast him in this role so millions could experience his acting artistry.

Such a good movie. Dudley Moore was so funny. Rest in peace. Also the gentleman that played the butler 👏 and of course Liza Minnelli. Classic.

I am 52. This song makes me still cry. I never cry. Forgot how much hurting I was doing when this movie/song came out. That was 34 years ago. It was a girl that broke my heart. Guess part of me died. Took me till I was 42 to find someone to marry. Have a nice daughter now and wife. Still something died in me.

Arthur’s one of the best movies of my childhood. “Drive through the park.. You know how I love to drive through the park”. You’re a HOOKER! 😅
my dad loved this song, he passed away three years ago from a heart failure I wasent at home didnt had the chance to tell him how much I love him. everytime I listen to this song I remamber myself as a kid and my father putting me the earphones with this song. I know he is up there in a good place but one more thing I know for sure is that I really miss him.
