Thanks Sue. Yes, I've ben really bad at making it to sketchcrawls and getting involved. No good excuses. I do seem to have gone off the boil a bit with sketching recently though - I'm sure I'll come back to it soon. Perhaps I just need a rest.

Thank you :-) I have recently given up illustrating children's books (though I still do plenty of events with children, where I get to read them, play the goat and illustrate on the flipchart). I just got a bit bored after about 16 years of working in the same style and needed a change. The research-sketching work came along at just the right time for me and so that's how I pay the bills now. Good luck with your work - glad to be of help!

Thanks so much Joy. Yes, I was very lucky with the lightbox. I taught for a while at the local art college and the technician made me the lightbox as a private commission, using the facilities in the workshop.

I use watercolours for the sketching, combined with Inktense watercolour pencils and occasionally a Koh-i-Noor 'Magic' pencil, for the multicoloured line-drawing.
